🔵 HYPER-AROUSAL
During times of extreme stress you can move outside of your window of tolerance and into a state of hyper-arousal. The sympathetic nervous system is ignited and the fight or flight response activated. In this state you may feel angry, irritable, chaotic, hyper-vigilant, anxious, have racing thoughts and a sense of restlessness. Hyper-arousal results in the deactivation of your prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for executive functions such as attention and impulse control. When the prefrontal cortex is essentially shut down it's Very difficult to think clearly and rationally.
🔵 CHAPTERS
0:05 What is the Window of Tolerance?
0:53 Hyper-aroused state explained
1:36 Hypo-aroused state explained
3:00 How to emotionally regulate
🔵 HYPO-AROUSAL
Stress can also make you plummet into a hypo-aroused state. The parasympathetic nervous system is engaged and you freeze in response to stress or danger. In this state you may feel overwhelmed, emotionally numb, exhausted, lack motivation and feel depressed. Your body posture may collapse or curl up in a ball and you may disconnect or dissociate in order to cope. In the hypo-aroused state you have essentially shut down.
The good news is that you can widen your window of tolerance and therefore increase your ability to manage stress. For example, if you are hyper-aroused you might find it helpful to use techniques that settle your mind and body such as mindful breathing, listening to calming music, going for a gentle walk or talking to a friend.
🔵 HOW TO INCREASE YOUR WINDOW OF TOLERANCE
If shifting from a hypo-aroused state this tends to require getting more active so going for a brisk walk, doing some exercise or engaging socially. Stimulating the senses via smell or touch, listening to uplifting music, or eating some food with a strong taste or crunchy texture. Psychological Therapy can also widen your window as it can provide an external source of safety, a protected space and a personal connection with someone.
I summary you can learn to modulate your internal states to raise arousal levels when too low and to shift then down when too high. By monitoring and modulating your internal state you can increase resilience and promote self-regulation.

Script:
Do you know what the word “tolerance” means? If you do, I salute you, because I have no idea anymore. I did… once. Everybody did… once. But now, thanks to the left, the word is totally up for grabs. Actually, it’s worse than that. Tolerance now means the opposite of what it once meant. Tolerance now means intolerance, and intolerance now means tolerance.
Confusing—yeah, I know—but stay with me. There’s a big pay-off at the end. It’s called “clarity.”
To be “tolerant” today simply means you agree with politically-correct—that is, left-wing—positions. That’s all it means.
This is easy to show: Name one position that differs from the left that they don’t label intolerant.
When you differ with the left on any subject—and I mean any—the people who claim to be tolerant don’t attack your position; they attack you. They label you, as Dennis Prager puts it, “SIXHIRB”—sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, Islamophobic, racist, bigoted. And if that fails, there’s always the ever-popular “hater.”
This is obviously not tolerance. This is blatant intolerance. Your accusers are guilty of doing exactly the same thing they’re accusing you of doing.
Here’s what they’re missing: In order to be genuinely tolerant of someone, you first have to disagree with them, since you don’t tolerate people you agree with. The classic definition of “tolerance” means to recognize and respect others’ beliefs and practices without sharing them.
Notice the element of disagreement is key to tolerance. Without it, true tolerance is not possible. This is critical. We don’t “tolerate” people we agree with—we’re on the same side! We only “tolerate” people we differ with, yet still choose to treat decently and with respect.
This vital ingredient of real tolerance is completely missing in the politically correct version. Nowadays, if you differ with others on culturally sensitive issues—like sexual orientation or religious beliefs—you’re labeled intolerant no matter how you treat them.
The left says all behaviors and ideas have equal value—that no behavior or idea is any better than any other. They don’t act that way. Tolerance is a one-way street for the left.
Openly declare that sex differences are real, as Harry Potter novelist J. K. Rowling did, and see what happens. You’ll be called “transphobic” by the left. The same thing happened to legendary tennis star and feminist Martina Navratilova, when she said it was unfair to women to have to compete against trans-athletes—that is, athletes who say they identify as female, but are biologically male. But I thought, according to the left, all ideas have equal value. So why are J.K. Rowling and Martina Navratilova suddenly called haters? Because the left doesn’t believe its own rhetoric.
What the left has done is cleverly redefine tolerance to mean “agreement with leftist views.” Tolerance no longer means treating people with civility and respect even when we disagree with them. It means not disagreeing with them—that is, the left. That’s how, in the name of tolerance, the left shuts down all disagreement. It defines any contradiction of leftist views as intolerant.
But not only is disagreement not intolerant, it’s morally and logically essential. Think about it. All ideas, all behaviors are not equally valid. Some are better. Some are worse. And discussion and disagreement and debate are how we sort out the good from the bad. Civilization depends on it.

Look For The Good
Music and Lyrics by Doug Momary
Look for the good
Not the bad
Look for the smile
Not the frown
Look for the happy
Not the sad
Look for the up
And, not the down
Try to stay
Don’t walk away
Be gentle
And very kind
Try to care
Stay right there
And hear what’s on their minds
Well, look for the good
Not the bad
Look for the smile
Not the frown
Look for the happy
Not the sad
Look for the up
And, not the down

Drug Tolerance (General Pharmacology Part 9) | Dr. Shikha Parmar
Drug Tolerance (General Pharmacology Part 9) by Dr. Shikha Parmar
Tolerance happens when a person no longer responds to a drug in the way they did at first. So it takes a higher dose of the drug to achieve the same effect as when the person first used it. This is why people with substance use disorders use more and more of a drug to get the “high” they seek.
Tolerance is what happens before dependence is formed. The body starts to recognize a chemical because it has been administered too often. When the body recognizes the chemical, the effects aren’t the same and more of the drug is required to achieve the desired effects. Those with a chemical tolerance will take more of a drug or drink more alcohol to feel the way they want to. Examples of this will be a drug user taking twice the dos...

What is pharmacodynamics? Pharmacodynamics refers to the mechanisms and effects of medications within the body. Or more simply, it’s what medications do to the body and how they do it. Desensitization or tachyphylaxis refers to a rapid-onset decrease in the effects of a medication after repeated exposure, whereas tolerance has a gradual onset.

Tolerance and tachyphylaxis are terms often use inter changeably. Tolerance is basically, an acquired resistance to a drug, after prolong administration of that drug. It also refers to, requirement of high dose of drug to produce a given response, because, normal dose don't show it effect when tolerance developed.
There are three main mechanisms that are responsible for tolerance.
* increased metabolism.
* increased drug excretion.
* decrease intestinal absorption.
Tolerance can also occur due to, desensitization or down regulation of receptors, that decrease the sensitivity, of that particular receptor. Tolerance can also occur, by the process of, enzyme induction, and, due to homeo-static response. Tolerance c...

Examples of this will be a drug user taking twice the dose or an alcoholic drinking hard liquor when everyone else is drinking a glass of wine.
Dependence means that when a person stops using a drug, their body goes through “withdrawal”: a group of physical and mental symptoms that can range from mild (if the drug is caffeine) to life-threatening (such as alcohol or opioids, including heroin and prescription pain relievers). Many people who take prescription medicine every day over a long period of time can become dependent; when they go off the drug, they need to do it gradually, to avoid withdrawal discomfort. But people who are dependent on a drug or medicine aren’t necessarily addicted.

* increased metabolism.
* increased drug excretion.
* decrease intestinal absorption.
Tolerance can also occur due to, desensitization or down regulation of receptors, that decrease the sensitivity, of that particular receptor. Tolerance can also occur, by the process of, enzyme induction, and, due to homeo-static response. Tolerance can be reversible, as we can achieve desired response by increasing the dose of drug.
Almost every addicting drug mainly produce tolerance, which includes.
opioids, amphetamine, and, some central nervous system depressants, like, sedative and hypnotics.
Tachyphylaxis, is defined as, rapid decrease in drug response, after few doses of drug, over a short period of time. It is basically, an acute form of, acquired tolerance, occurring within a few minutes. And, probably occur, due to, transient saturation of cell receptors with drug, and, increasing the dose, can’t produce the same effect.
Dis-appearance of hyper-tensive effect of tyramine, which is released, and, displaces nor-adrenaline from adrenergic neurons, is an example of tachyphylaxis.
