Description: A Doctor of Philosophy is the highest academic degree awarded by universities in most countries. PhDs are awarded for programs across the whole breadth of academic fields. As an earned research degree, those studying for this qualification are usually not only required to demonstrate subject-matter expertise and mastery by examination, they are also often asked to make a new scholarly contribution to a particular area of knowledge through their own original research. The completion of a PhD is often a requirement for employment as a university professor, researcher, or scientist in many fields. Individuals who have earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree may, in many jurisdictions, use the title Doctor or, in non-English speaking countries, variants such as "Dr. phil." with their name, although the proper etiquette associated with this usage may also be subject to the professional ethics of their own scholarly field, culture, or society. Those who teach at universities or work in academic, educational, or research fields are usually addressed by this title "professionally and socially in a salutation or conversation." Additionally, holders of this degree may use post-nominal letters such as "Ph.D.", "PhD", or "DPhil" . However, they should never list both "Dr." and "Ph.D." with their name in reference to the same academic qualification, as this is considered redundant, possibly misleading, and in poor taste. The specific requirements to earn a PhD degree vary considerably according to the country, institution, and time period, from entry-level research degrees to higher doctorates. During the studies that lead to the degree, the student is called a doctoral student or PhD student; a student who has completed all of their coursework and comprehensive examinations and is working on their thesis/dissertation is sometimes known as a doctoral candidate or PhD candidate . A student attaining this level may be granted a Candidate of Philosophy degree at some institutions, or may be granted a master's degree en route to the doctoral degree. Sometimes this status is also colloquially known as "Ph.D. ABD", meaning "All But Dissertation."A PhD candidate must submit a project, thesis or dissertation often consisting of a body of original academic research, which is in principle worthy of publication in a peer-reviewed journal. In many countries, a candidate must defend this work before a panel of expert examiners appointed by the university. Universities sometimes award other types of doctorate besides the PhD, such as the Doctor of Musical Arts for music performers and the Doctor of Education for professional educators. In 2005 the European Universities Association defined the Salzburg Principles, ten basic principles for third-cycle degrees within the Bologna Process. These were followed in 2016 by the Florence Principles, seven basic principles for doctorates in the arts laid out by the European League of Institutes of the Arts, which have been endorsed by the European Association of Conservatoires, the International Association of Film and Television Schools, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media, and the Society for Artistic Research. In the context of the Doctor of Philosophy and other similarly titled degrees, the term "philosophy" does not refer to the field or academic discipline of philosophy, but is used in a broader sense in accordance with its original Greek meaning, which is "love of wisdom". In most of Europe, all fields other than theology, law, and medicine were traditionally known as philosophy, and in Germany and elsewhere in Europe the basic faculty of liberal arts was known as the "faculty of philosophy".

Ph.D. - Ph.D. *1981* [FULL ALBUM]
[New Wave/Synth Pop/Pop/Electronic] Here is the British trio PhD with their 1981 self titled first album: "Ph.D". Excellent New Wave album that was HUGE in 1982 around Europe but not in the states. People in Europe actually classify this album as one of the best albums from the 1980's and hey i can't lie it's pretty good. A shame it really didn't make an impact in the united states, the synth work on these tracks is excellent and it surely would make Giorgio Moroder jealous in my opinion, lol. Ph.D - I Won't Let You Down (1981)
"I Won't Let You Down" is a 1982 single by British band Ph.D. It entered the UK charts in April 1982 at #34 and peaked at #3 in May of that year.
The original music video for the song was set in and around the Queensway area of West London. As with the band's previous single "Little Suzi's on the Up", the video is shot in a slapstick comedy style and features Jim Diamond as a well-dressed man trying to win back the affections of his lover (played by Nina Carter).

#66 Doctor Fish — Singer Songwriter Success
@doctorfish7830 Renaissance Records debut reveals a proud musical throwback—a guitar-wielding, storytelling folk-rock singer-songwriter. No fake retro act; he’s one of the last surviving purveyors of a style of music made famous by Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Paul Simon, and Gordon Lightfoot.
The road to Doctor Fish’s debut has been long and winding. As he sings in his “Tuesday Morning,” “You know that I’m still standing, just not where I thought I’d be.” He grew up playing saxophone in Tucson, Arizona, and pursued jazz through college. As a saxophonist, he backed legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Cher.
Somewhere along the way, the doctor picked up a guitar and began writing and singing songs.
His journey also found him earning a Ph.D. in ethnomu...

Originally written and performed in 1981 by the band Ph.D. The band consisted of Jim Diamond, Tony Hymas and Simon Phillips. The band members took the first letters of their last names to come up with PHD. This song was later rerecorded by the rock band Tesla where it became a big hit for them.

His journey also found him earning a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology and living in Japan for some years. From there, he founded a thriving program of study for students of popular music at a small college in North Carolina.
The good doctor’s emergence as a solo performer is a beautiful fluke that makes him one of the oldest artists with a debut release.
The legendary David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Tori Amos, Joe Jackson) produced the Last Troubadour. The album features bassist Leland Sklar (James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Carole King), drummer Denny Fongheiser (Heart, Counting Crows, Shawn Colvin), and top studio musicians from around the world.
“Harry Chapin” serves as the lead-off single for the album. A tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter, it helps celebrate the 50th anniversary of Chapin’s breakout hit, “Taxi,” and what would have been his 80th birthday. Harry’s son Jason calls the song a “great tribute” to his father.

Originally written and performed in 1981 by the band Ph.D. The band consisted of Jim Diamond, Tony Hymas and Simon Phillips. The band members took the first letters of their last names to come up with PHD. This song was later rerecorded by the rock band Tesla where it became a big hit for them.
