Train Trip: Amtrak Pennsylvanian New York City to Pittsburgh (NYP-PGH)
Hey guys! Welcome FINALLY back to another train trip video! Today, I'm traveling on Amtrak's Pennsylvanian route from New York City to Pittsburgh! The Pennsylvanian is a 9+ hours journey down the state of New Jersey and across the entire state of Pennsylvania crossing 444 miles in total. The first part takes you down from NYC to Philadelphia on their NE Corridor Line, followed by the Keystone Service Line from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, and finally the Pittsburgh Line from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh on Norfolk Southern's tracks. This last part is by far the most scenic part of the Pennsylvanian and also the longest and most delay-prone section (to say it lightly). Amtrak's Ten Hour Pennsylvanian Route | Pittsburgh to New York
Amtrak Pennsylvanian Route Travel Vlog | Amtrak Pennsylvanian Route take you from Pittsburgh to New York City (or vise versa) with stops across Pennsylvania in towns/cities such as Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Altoona, and many more. The Amtrak Pennsylvanian Route does not have any sleeper cars or observation cars however it does have a cafe car serving snacks, drinks, and small sandwiches. The trains cars are the regular cars along the Amtrak northeast corridor however, the leg room on the seats of the Pennsylvanian Route is far greater than any other route along the northeast corridor. Taking Amtrak the full length of the Pennsylvanian route is long as it will take you over ten hours to get from Pittsburgh to New York, but it is a very enjoyable, easy, and efficient ride.

Rear view RFW on Pennsylvanian train #43. Philadelphia to Harrisburg. 6/5/24
This is the first time I have ever done a video like this on an Amtrak train. It was quite exciting and most enjoyable even though the ventilation in that compartment wasn’t very good on this warm and humid day and I had to revive myself at station stops with the air conditioning in the passenger area. You will get a good glimpse of the scenic route through the Pennsylvania Dutch Country as well as the track work being done between Lancaster and Harrisburg. All stations, passing trains, and interlockings are identified. Narration as well as infographics assist in what is happening. It was also quite a thrill to see a number of ex LIRR GP38-2’s handling Amtrak work trains.

Pennsylvania E8's and Keystone Service 670 and 665
October 17, 2009: Conrail Historical Society runs a JTCX special on former Conrail Lines hosting the restored Pennsylvania Railroad E8A's 5808 and 5711. Here, we see Conrail Express 805 bookin' down the Keystone Line at around 70 MPH, give-or-take. Prior, there are the 15:48 on-time 670 and 16:02 on-time 665, with Amtrak AEM-7 940 and 925 respectively. Despite the weather, I hope you enjoyed! I froze my buns off for this!

Throughout most of the country, Amtrak uses freight company tracks from NS to CSX to Union Pacific to BNSF, so they always give priority to their trains first. Because of that, we unfortunately were delayed over an hour due to slow moving NS trains ahead of us and so on and so forth. Besides the delay, I found the rest of the train journey to be very good. The cabin, while older, is very classy with very comfortable seats and power outlets. There's also free WiFi and the attendants were all chill, even the one that asked to not be shown on camera. Speaking of which, the cafe car didn't allow passengers to use its tables which does kind of ruin the experience a bit. But overall, had a great time. Hope you guys enjoy!!
