Pelvis Hip Bones Anatomy (Os Coxae, Pelvic Girdle) - Ilium, Ischium, Pubis
Hip bone anatomy lesson of pelvic girdle: The hip bones (also called innominate bones, os coxae, coxal bones, or pelvic bones) form part of the appendicular skeleton.
Those bones provide protection for the pelvic organs, provide a place for muscle and ligament attachment, and connect the lower limbs of the appendicular skeleton to the sacrum of the axial skeleton.
The hip bones (pelvic girdle) are made of three bones that began as independent bones but later fused to form one solid bone: The ilium, ischium, and pubis.
This video will cover the following landmarks on these hip bones of the pelvis:
1. Tubercle of Iliac Crest
2. Iliac Crest
3. Ala (wing) of the Ilium
4. Posterior Superior Iliac Spine
5. Posterior Inferior Iliac Spine

Pregnancy Related Pelvic Girdle Pain | Physiotherapy | Mater Mothers
It’s no secret that during pregnancy your body will change form to accommodate for the little bundle of joy growing inside of you. Bouncing back to your pre-baby figure starts, believe it or not, during pregnancy. Mater Mothers’ number one tip is to rest and move well during pregnancy to make sure you get your pre-baby body back.
If your tummy is bulging or “coning” when lifting, getting out of bed and leaning backwards, it means you are straining your tummy too much. Reducing excess strain will help protect your tummy and pelvic floor muscles from overstretch during pregnancy and help you recover after your baby’s birth.

The pelvis is formed by four bones which include a pair of hip bones otherwise known as innominate bones the sacrum, which comes with the five lower sacral bones that are fused together and the coccyx which has four fused and a single individual terminal vertebra.
The pelvic girdle consists of the hip bones and the sacrum and its function is to transmit the weight from the upper body to the lower limbs, while allowing the body to stay balanced.
Meanwhile the ilium, ischium and pubis fuse together at puberty to form the hip bones and are joined by the cartilage found in the acetabulum.
