Paul Chadwick (born 1957) is an Americancomic book creator best known for his series Concrete about a normal man trapped in a rock-hard body.
Born in Seattle, Chadwick grew up in its suburb Medina, where his father, Stephen F. Chadwick, was the City Attorney. As a teenager, he participated in Apa-5, the amateur press alliance of comics fans, and he then attended Art Center College of Design, majoring in illustration. Graduating in 1979, he began his career creating storyboards for Disney, Warner Brothers, Lucasfilm and other film studios, contributing to such films as Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Strange Brew, The Big Easy, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, Lies and Miracle Mile.
After working on several Matrix comics, Chadwick was asked by the Wachowskis to write The Matrix Online. He outlined the general story direction (and various natural offshoots) of events to take place in the MMORPG game.
Paul Chadwick (1902–1972) was a pulp magazine author who wrote many stories under his own name and various pseudonyms. As was the case with many prolific contributors to the pulps, he wrote in a number of different genres including detective stories, science fiction and westerns. He created Secret Agent X, published under the "house name" of Brant House, and also wrote the one and only issue of the Doc Savage clone Captain Hazzard (May 1938) under the name of Chester Hawks.
Many of Chadwick's detective stories feature the hardboiled character Wade Hammond, who first appeared in Detective-Dragnet/Ten Detective Aces magazine in 1931. The Hammond stories were notable in combining three emerging genres of the time: science fiction and weird menace as well as hardboiled detectives.
His publishing record is sparse for the years during WWII and immediately following. In the late 1940s, he re-emerged as writer for the western pulps. His stories appear into the mid-50s, particularly in Ranch Romances. After that, he went into newspaper work for the remainder of his career.

Chadwick was born in Seattle and raised in a nearby suburb. As a teenager, he participated in Apa-5, an amateur press alliance of comics fans which he credits as being hugely influential in his development as an artist. These amateur press groups were far from new. They existed in the 1920s and 1930s to serve budding science fiction and horror writers, like the Jukebox’s favorite children’s author, H. P. Lovecraft.
After graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 1979, with an illustration major, Chadwick began his career creating storyboards for Disney, Warner Brothers, Lucasfilm and others. He contributed to such films as Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Strange Brew, The Big Easy, and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.
He did work for Marvel on Dazzler, Deadpool and Dr. Strange. In the same year Salimba was published, 1986, he created Concrete, his most well known character. The first Concrete story was published by Dark Horse Comics in Dark Horse Presents #1 (July 1986). It attracted immediate fan and industry attention and soon Concrete was appearing in his own monthly book. Three years later Chadwick won the Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist 1989.
