In the 1980s, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) faced a critical decision that would shape its aerial capabilities for decades. The choice was between two advanced fighter jets: the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon and the Northrop F-20 Tigershark. This vlog delves into the reasons behind PAF's decision to choose the F-16s over the F-20s, exploring the strategic, technological, and political factors that influenced this pivotal moment in aviation history.
The decision of the Pakistan Air Force to choose the F-16s over the Northrop F-20 Tigershark in the 1980s was driven by a combination of technological superiority, strategic alliances, financial support, and long-term viability. The F-16 provided the PAF with a proven, versatile, and upgradable platform that significantly enhanced its air combat capabilities. This decision not only shaped the PAF’s operational effectiveness but also strengthened Pakistan’s strategic position in a geopolitically sensitive region. Join us in this vlog as we explore the intricate details and ramifications of this pivotal choice in aviation history.

Indian Air Force VS Pakistan Air Force | India vs Pakistan Military Comparison
Indian Air Force is the fourth largest Airforce in the world after U.S.A, Russia, China with approximately 139,576 active personnel,140,000 reserve personnel and 1,748 plus aircraft such as:-
LCA Tejas is an Indian, single engine, delta wing, light multirole fighter designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration with Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force. The Tejas currently has three production models – Tejas Mark 1, Mark 1A and trainer variant. The IAF currently placed an order for 40 Tejas Mark 1 and 73 Tejas Mark 1A and 10 trainer aircraft. The IAF plans to procure 324 aircraft in all variants, including the Tejas Mark 2 currently being developed by the HAL. The Tejas Mark 2 is expected to be ready for series production by 2026.
Indian Airforce Sukhoi Su 30MKI is a twinjet multirole air superiority fighter developed by Russia's Sukhoi and built under licence by India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Development of the variant started after India signed a deal with Russia in 2000 to manufacture 140 Su-30 fighter jets. The first Russian-made Su-30MKI variant was accepted into the Indian Air Force in 2002, while the 1st Su-30MKI assembled in India entered service with the IAF in 2004.[5] The IAF has nearly 260 Su-30MKIs in inventory as of January 2020. The Su-30MKI is expected to form the backbone of the Indian Air Force's fighter fleet to 2030 and beyond.
Indian Air Force Rafale jet is the 4.5 gen fighter jet, making it among the deadliest in the world and was procured after a lengthy evaluation by Indian Air Force under MMRCA, outperforming SAAB Gripen, MiG 35, Typhoon, F-16 among others.
1st squadron of the Rafale jets is stationed at Ambala airbase due to its strategic location in North India and proxitimity to Pakistan, while the second one will be based at Hasimara base in West Bengal, due to its proximity to China.
MiG 21 Bison is an upgraded version of the MiG-21bis which had been first inducted into service in 1976. The Mikoyan and Gurevich (MiG) 21, code-named 'Fishbed', has been the longest-serving aircraft in the Indian Air Force’s current fleet. Despite the fact that modern avionics and armaments were added to the MiG-21 in the Bison upgrade (2001 onward), the airframe is still decades old and all the MIG 21 will be phased out by 2025 from Indian Air Force.
Jaguar fighter aircraft has been a dominant asset in Indian Air Force's (IAF) fleet for decades. IAF Jaguar played an active role in the 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan, dropping both unguided and laser-guided bombs. The SEPECAT Jaguar is an Anglo-French jet attack aircraft originally used by the British Royal Air Force and the French Air Force in the close air support and nuclear strike role
MiG 29 UPG aircraft is the upgraded version of the MiG-29 operated by the Indian Air Force. After the Dassault Rafale, the MiG-29 is the only aircraft in the IAF with an inbuilt EW suite. The DRDO’s Defence Avionics Research Establishment lab, Israeli Elisra, and Italian Electronica are the manufacturers of the D-29 EW suite for the MiG 29UPG.
Pakistan Air Force is ninth largest airforce in world with 70,000 active-duty personnel and operates at least 970 aircraft such as:-
Jf-17 Thunder is a lightweight, single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft developed jointly by the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) of China and the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex. Jf 17 Thunder is backbone of PAF which makes 30% of total combat aircraft.
J-10C is a medium-weight, all-weather fighter jet developed by China. J10c is the latest fighter jet of PAF. Pakistan airforce has ordered 25 J-10C from China.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon currently serves as the primary air fighter of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in addition to its ground attack capabilities. The PAF currently has ~75 F-16s in active service.
Dassault Mirage III: Having been in service since 1967, the Mirage III, together with the Mirage 5, serves as the primary strike aircraft of the PAF. The PAF operates more than 80 Mirage III aircraft, comprising multiple variants including the Mirage IIIEP, IIIEL and IIIO fighter-bomber variants, the latter of which have been upgraded under Project ROSE
Chengdu F-7 serves primarily as an interceptor, and around 140 aircraft are in service. The F-7PG variant remains the primary variant to remain in service with the PAF, while the two seat FT-7P and FT-7PG variants are in use as operational conversion trainers.
