✠ Marsch Herzog von Braunschweig ✠ Anthem of Brunswick
This march was composed in 1806 for Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand, Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and a Field Marshall in the Prussian army. He commanded the Prussian forces in the battle of Jena-Auerstädt, during which both of his eyes were destroyed by a musketball. He died shortly afterwards. His son, Frederick William, established the Brunswick Ducal Corps (or "Black Brunswickers"), a mixed infantry-cavalry unit of around 2,000 men, which served alongside the British Army after Brunswick-Lüneburg was annexed by the Kingdom of Westphalia, a French satellite state. Frederick William died at the Battle of Quatre Bras in 1815. The Congress of Vienna re-established Brunswick-Lüneburg as the Duchy of Brunswick, to which the remnants of the Corps returned on the 6th of December 1815.

When several sons of a Duke competed for power, the lands were often divided between them; when a branch of the family lost power or became extinct, the lands were reallocated among surviving members of the family; different dukes might also exchange territories. The territories were named after notable towns where the dukes had (or had had at one time) their residences, e.g. Calenberg, Celle, Göttingen, Grubenhagen, Lüneburg, Wolfenbüttel. The unifying element of all these territories was that they were ruled by male-line descendants of Duke Otto I, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, nephew of the Holy Roman Emperor Otto IV.
Clausthal-Zellerfeld originally consisted of two towns which were merged in 1924 to form an administrative unit. Clausthal is well known for the old Clausthal University of Technology and its magnificent buildings, while Zellerfeld is a typical tourist resort for hikers and winter sportsmen. Clausthal-Zellerfeld is the largest town in the area that is situated in the mountains rather than on the edge.
Mining in the area began in the 16th century. Modern wire rope was invented to service the iron mines in the 1830s by the German mining engineer Wilhelm Albert in the years between 1831 and 1834 for use in mining in the Harz Mountains in Clausthal. It was quickly accepted because it proved superior to ropes made of hemp or to metal chains, such as had been used before and soon found its way into diverse applications, including most notably, suspension bridges.

Otto II "the Red": Holy Roman Emperor | Explained In 3 Minutes
Today we will talk about...🔽
Otto II, known as Otto the Red, was a Holy Roman Emperor from the Ottonian dynasty who played a significant role in the history of Germany. Succeeding his father, Otto I, he continued efforts to consolidate the empire's power. Otto II's reign was marked by military campaigns in Italy, particularly his struggle against the Byzantine Empire and the Saracens. Despite suffering a major defeat at the Battle of Stilo in 982, his efforts to maintain and expand the empire's influence were crucial. Otto II's reign set the stage for his son, Otto III, to continue the dynasty's legacy, further shaping the medieval history of Germany and the Holy Roman Empire.

The Holy Roman Empire was one of the oldest and most influential imperial institutions in all of Medieval history. Tracing its roots back to the early Frankish kingdoms and the heroic deeds of men like Charles Martel and Charlemagne, the HRE existed in one form or another for nearly a thousand years. Yet the term 'Holy Roman Empire' did not enter common use until the 13th Century with the reign of Frederick Barbarossa. In this video, we explore why this was the case, delving into the Empire's long and tumultuous relationship with the Papacy in Rome, and the circumstances that led to the en...

The Holy Roman Empire: The Rise of Medieval Europe
The Holy Roman Empire is a powerful state that emerged from the ruins of the Frankish Empire, once created by Charlemagne. But what was it actually? Known for its federal system, it united not only the scattered Germanic tribes, but also the inhabitants of modern Italy, France, the Netherlands and other European countries. Its "holiness" was ensured thanks to a close alliance with the Pope. It was then that the German kingdom was proclaimed the Holy Roman Empire.
It has been argued that this is where the history of Germany as a united state begins. Also, the roots of the idea of the supremacy of the German peoples, which was reflected much later in history, come from here. It was here that the concepts of "duke" and "burg" appeared, quickly spreading throughout Europe. The history of th...

In this video, we explore why this was the case, delving into the Empire's long and tumultuous relationship with the Papacy in Rome, and the circumstances that led to the end of that relationship for good.

Otto I was a German king best known for his defeat of the final Magyar invasion of Western Europe at Lechfeld in 955. Although the start of his reign was marred by rebellions, he eventually became powerful and renowned enough to become crowned the first Holy Roman Emperor in 962.
His rule began a period of prosperity that was known as the Ottonian Renaissance.

The history of the Holy Roman Empire is the history of medieval Europe itself and in this video we explore it in detail.
