All Oldsmobile V8s use a 90° bank angle, and most share a common stroke dimension: 3.4375in (87.31mm) for early Rockets, 3.6875in (93.66mm) for later Generation 1 engines, and 3.385in (86.0mm) for Generation 2 starting in 1964. The 260cuin (4.3l), 307cuin (5.0l), 330cuin (5.4l), 350cuin (5.7l) and 403cuin (6.6l) engines are commonly called small-blocks.400cuin (6.6l), 425cuin (7.0l), and 455cuin (7.5l) V8s have a higher deck height (10.625in (27.0cm)versus9.33in (23.7cm)) to accommodate a 4.25in (108mm) stroke crank to increase displacement. These taller-deck models are commonly called "big-blocks", and are 1in (2.5cm) taller and 1.5in (3.8cm) wider than their "small-block" counterparts.
American Musclecar Evolution - The Travesty Of Oldsmobile
Oldsmobile started out the 1950's as General Motors clear leader in performance and innovation, but by the time the true Musclecar era began their status began to slip. The cars were cool, and the marketing effort was strong, but a couple of factors added up to put the brand far enough behind Chevrolet, that the racing and aftermarket industries all but ignored the once mighty Lancing rockets.

By 1970 the V8 engines in muscle cars were sized well beyond 400 cubic inches, with the 1970 Oldsmobile 442 offering a 455 cubic inch engine and a W-30 upgrade package ... from its 455 V8 engine.
“It handles especially well and is just enjoyable to drive,” he said of the two-seat roadster ... That didn’t deter him ... “The guy was about halfway through replacing the original four-cylinder engine with an Oldsmobile V8 when he decided to sell it ... .
The 394 cubic-inch V8 engine has never been apart, except for the top end to replace seals, while the cooling system has been upgraded with a four core radiator, fan shroud and fan clutch.Photo by Jamie Cox.
He was 86 years old. TODD ...Todd was born on Feb ... Joseph in 1947. As a St ... Todd enjoyed hanging out with friends and cruising in his beloved car, which he called “My Merry Oldsmobile 88,” with its 324-cubic-inch Rocket V8 engine ... Joseph ... The Edward J ... .
Bruce McLaren chose the 3.5-liter, aluminum block Oldsmobile V8 for his M1A in 1964, then had outside engine developer Traco bore it out to 4.5 liters to make 310 horsepower.
1981 was the first model year for the V8-6-4, and it was the base engine in every Cadillac model that year except for the Seville (which had the ill-fated Oldsmobile 350 diesel as standard equipment).
Oldsmobile's version was built for just the 1991 and 1992 model years, with just over 12,000 sold ... The 1991-1992 CustomCruiser was the last Oldsmobile available with both a V8 engine and rear-wheel-drive.
Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot had done reasonably well selling diesel-engined cars here during the 1970s, and so General Motors developed a diesel-burning version of the Oldsmobile 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 engine.
From the very beginning, Oldsmobile had big plans for the Cutlass to dominate the muscle car era ... As soon as GM dropped its cap on displacement, Oldsmobile made the standard engine for the 442 the highly awaited 455-cid V8 engine.
The Cosworth DFV 90° V8 is the winningest racing engine of all time, and it looks great and sounded great, so I’ll go with that ...From the ashes of the SBC, rises the engine that likely comes to your mind when you think V8.
Everyone knows about the Chevrolet 4.3-liter gasoline V6, which was three-quarters of the good ol' 350 small-block V8, but the Oldsmobile 4.3 V6 is completely unrelated to that cut-down engine.
The Oldsmobile 88 name goes way back, to 1949 and the first overhead-valve Olds V8 engines, and 88 (later on called "Eighty-Eight") production continued through 1999... Oldsmobile's legendary ...
Ford didn't offer a corresponding hardtop coupe in 1955, though the FairlaneCrown Victoria two-door did look extremely snazzy (and cost a mere $2,302— $25,545 now— with the same V8 engine as the Monterey).
