Ontonagon County (/ˌɒntəˈnɑːɡən/ ON-tə-NAH-gən) is a county located in the Upper peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,780, making it the third-least populous county in Michigan. The county seat is Ontonagon. The county was set off in 1843, and organized in 1848. Its territory had originally been organized as part of Chippewa and Mackinac counties. With increasing population in the area, more counties were organized. After Ontonagon was organized, it was split to create Gogebic County.
The county is named after the Ontonagon River. The name is said to be derived from an Ojibwe language word Nondon-organ, meaning "hunting river." A French transliteration, Nantounagon, identified the river on a 1670 French map. Alternatively, it is said to be derived from the Ojibwa onagon, which means "dish" or "bowl."See List of Michigan county name etymologies.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,741 square miles (9,690 km2), of which 1,311 square miles (3,400 km2) is land and 2,430 square miles (6,300 km2) (65%) is water. It is the third-largest county in Michigan by area.
A log cabin is a dwelling constructed of logs, especially a less finished or architecturally sophisticated structure. Log cabins have an ancient history in Europe, and in America are often associated with first generation home building by settlers.
Construction with logs was described by Roman architect Vitruvius Pollio in his architectural treatise De Architectura. He noted that in Pontus (modern-day northeastern Turkey), dwellings were constructed by laying logs horizontally overtop of each other and filling in the gaps with "chips and mud".
Historically log cabin construction has its roots in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Although their origin is uncertain, the first log structures were probably being built in Northern Europe by the Bronze Age (about 3500 BC). C. A. Weslager describes Europeans as having:
By stacking tree trunks one on top of another and overlapping the logs at the corners, people made the "log cabin". They developed interlocking corners by notching the logs at the ends, resulting in strong structures that were easier to make weather-tight by inserting moss or other soft material into the joints. As the original coniferous forest extended over the coldest parts of the world, there was a prime need to keep these houses warm. The insulating properties of the solid wood were a great advantage over a timber frame construction covered with animal skins, felt, boards or shingles. Over the decades, increasingly complex joints were developed to ensure more weather tight joints between the logs, but the profiles were still largely based on the round log.
"Old" is a song recorded by American heavy metal band Machine Head. It was released as a single in two different versions. The title track is taken off of the 1994 album Burn My Eyes. It is the fourth track featured on the band's live album Hellalive, and the ninth track featured on the band's second live album Machine Fucking Head Live.
A chip log, also called common log, ship log, or just log, is a navigation tool mariners use to estimate the speed of a vessel through water. The word knot, to mean nautical mile per hour, derives from this measurement method.
All nautical instruments that measure the speed of a ship through water are known as logs. This nomenclature dates back to the days of sail, when sailors tossed a log attached to a rope knotted at regular intervals off the stern of a ship. Sailors counted the number of knots that passed through their hands in a given time to determine the ship's speed. They had to know the speed to navigate using dead reckoning, which was usual practice before modern navigation instruments like GPS. Today, sailors and aircraft pilots still use the written term "knot[s]" to express speed, although the modern term is a respelling of "naut[s]," an abbreviation of "nautical mile[s]."
A chip log consists of a wooden board attached to a line (the log-line). The log-line has a number of knots at uniform intervals. The log-line is wound on a reel so the user can easily pay it out.
In mathematics, the common logarithm is the logarithm with base 10. It is also known as the decadic logarithm and also as the decimal logarithm, named after its base, or Briggsian logarithm, after Henry Briggs, an English mathematician who pioneered its use, as well as "standard logarithm". It is indicated by log10(x), or sometimes Log(x) with a capital L (however, this notation is ambiguous since it can also mean the complex natural logarithmic multi-valued function). On calculators it is usually "log", but mathematicians usually mean natural logarithm (logarithm with base e ≈ 2.71828) rather than common logarithm when they write "log". To mitigate this ambiguity the ISO 80000 specification recommends that log10(x) should be written lg (x) and loge(x) should be ln (x).
Before the early 1970s, handheld electronic calculators were not available and mechanical calculators capable of multiplication were bulky, expensive and not widely available. Instead, tables of base-10 logarithms were used in science, engineering and navigation when calculations required greater accuracy than could be achieved with a slide rule. Use of logarithms avoided laborious and error prone paper and pencil multiplications and divisions. Because logarithms were so useful, tables of base-10 logarithms were given in appendices of many text books. Mathematical and navigation handbooks included tables of the logarithms of trigonometric functions as well. See log table for the history of such tables.
In mathematics, the binary logarithm (log2 n) is the power to which the number 2 must be raised to obtain the value n. That is, for any real number x,
For example, the binary logarithm of 1 is 0, the binary logarithm of 2 is 1, the binary logarithm of 4 is 2, and the binary logarithm of 32 is 5.
The binary logarithm is the logarithm to the base 2. The binary logarithm function is the inverse function of the power of two function. As well as log2, alternative notations for the binary logarithm include lg, ld, lb, and (with a prior notation that the default base is 2) log.
Historically, the first application of binary logarithms was in music theory, by Leonhard Euler: the binary logarithm of a frequency ratio of two musical tones gives the number of octaves by which the tones differ. Binary logarithms can be used to calculate the length of the representation of a number in the binary numeral system, or the number of bits needed to encode a message in information theory. In computer science, they count the number of steps needed for binary search and related algorithms. Other areas in which the binary logarithm is frequently used include combinatorics, bioinformatics, the design of sports tournaments, and photography.

Parking for O Kun de Kun Falls is located about 8 miles north of Bruce Crossing Michigan on Highway 45. As you cross over the Baltimore River, the parking area is located 1/2 mile on the right. There two trail options getting to the waterfall(s). You start on the two track but shortly you're given the option to take the marked scenic trail (blue markers on right) to the upper falls first. The two track will take you to the main O Kun de Kun Falls. Make sure you turn right at the intersection. Both trails are usually wet and muddy due to the clay content, so wear rubber boots with good traction. Bond Falls in Southern Ontonagon County, Michigan. #PureMichigan
Take a step back in time and witness the way the miners once lived at Old Victoria Restoration. There once stood over 60 cabins but the remaining four hold memories and artifacts from everyday life on this little homestead. See how they used to enjoy music, sew their own clothes, and even how they used to make cinnamon rolls in a wood oven. Touring these cabins is great for the whole family! . . . #fun #michigan #logcabin #oldvictoria #mining #history #porcupinemountains #family #travelling #visit
My first waterfall on my third trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 2013 was Bond Falls in Ontonagon County. This is the largest waterfall attraction in Western Michigan and that means lots of people with cameras. I ended up meeting and talking to one of the few true artists when I was there, Levent Eryilmaz. The weather was quite dreary and it looked like it would start raining at anytime, as usual, I had my umbrella with me. Turns out, I didn't need it at all. My last visit warranted an umbrella the whole time I was here. The falls are quite large and tough to get all of the angles I wanted. Using the wooden pathway would have been ideal but footsteps bounce the wooden planks too much for my work. Music by Dexter Britain Song: From Truth

My final stop of the day was Bonanza Falls also known as Greenwood Falls. After having spent most of the day driving, standing in the rain or massive bugs, the blue skies and bug free environment was a nice treat at the end of the day. Bonanza Falls is an easy find being right on M-64 and a mile south of Silver City. What makes this an interesting waterfall is all of the diagonal rock creating really cool water drops. I was tired after a long day of driving and hiking so I messed up on quite a few series of shots by not turning my autofocus off during the shoot. I remembered for the next one..... 4 years ago I felt lost, even though society had clearly paved the path for me. I was 17 and living in Stockholm Sweden. After seeing the documentary "Alone in the wilderness" by Dick Proenneke, I became completely obsessed with the idea of just packing a rucksack of hand tools and wondering off into the vast forest of Sweden to create my own life, living off the land and build a log cabin. I found my meaning, but I was still in high school. My Grandparents owned forest so I started spending more and more time with them every weekend, wandering out, dreaming of my obsession and asking for advise. I had absolutely no prior knowledge of anything how I was going to do this, just the obsession to learn. When I turned 18 I told everyone of my plans. I received a gopro camera from my parents, so...
A log cabin, is a log cabin, is a log cabin. Although charming, log cabins have a number of drawbacks that should be taken into consideration before building one. However, there is a way to get that log cabin feel without going all-in. Log and timber styles can be mixed however! Learn about how to mix both: https://arrowtimber.com/how-to-artistically-mix-logs-and-timbers/ Drawbacks: shrinkage, rustic inflexibility, constraints in home design, overal cost & labor, maintenance and chinking. Logs themselves can be used in building styles using a hybrid approach that get around the drawbacks while still giving that rustic feel. This is accomplished through more of a hybrid timber framing approach. Listen as Bert gives ideas and insight on building a hybrid timber frame home using logs to g...
