A homeland (rel. country of origin and native land) is the concept of the place (cultural geography) with which an ethnic group holds a long history and a deep cultural association – the country in which a particular national identity began. As a common noun, it simply connotes the country of one's origin. When used as a proper noun, the word, as well as its equivalents in other languages, often have ethnic nationalist connotations. A homeland may also be referred to as a fatherland, a motherland, or a mother country, depending on the culture and language of the nationality in question.
Motherland
Motherland refer to a mother country, i.e. the place of one's birth, the place of one's ancestors, the place of origin of an ethnic group or immigrant, or a Metropole in contrast to its colonies. People often refer to Mother Russia as a personification of the Russian nation. India is often personified as Bharat Mata (Mother India), a concept that emerged in the late 19th century via the Indian independence movement. The French commonly refer to France as "la mère patrie";Hispanic Americans and 19th century-upper-classFilipinos, commonly referred to Spain as "la Madre Patria", but today this refers to a more cultural and linguistic relationship based on a long and complex mutual history.

A CELEBRATION OF RAY CHARLES
Family, friends and fans bade a fond farewell to rhythm and blues legend Ray Charles during a joyous funeral service in Los Angeles on Friday.
With music, words and prayers inside and outside the church, they recalled the life of Charles who died last week in Beverly Hills, aged 73.
Onlookers and media outside watched as a host of equally legendary music and entertainment industry stars filed into the church for the funeral.
Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Little Richard and Willie Nelson were among the stars who came to say their farewells to Charles in a private ceremony at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Charles' son, the Reverend Robert Robinson Sr, started the service with a rousing tone, clapping his hands throughout a reading from the Old Testament.
Then the Reverend Jesse Jackson added a New Testament reading threaded with his own inspirational message.
He described Charles as a great leader who broke down racial barriers with his transcendent music.
Another tribute came from actor-director Clint Eastwood, who interviewed Charles for an extensive segment of the documentary "The Blues."
Fans listened outside the church as the service played through loudspeakers.
They remembered Charles for his legacy of music that spanned soul, rock 'n' roll, R&B, country, jazz, big band and blues.

Sometimes in fond mem'ry my thoughts go back to the old country church That I attened as a boy You know it's kinda funny how we cling to old bygone days and bygone places isn't it Why it seems like only yesterday that my mother took my childish hand in hers And led me slowly down that long winding path to hear the word of God And I seem to sense his presence more strongly there than anyplace I've ever known There with the singin' of the birds and the humming of the bees I knew that God was surely there I knew it just as sure as if he'd laid his hand on my shoulder And said welcome to my house son Ah but years have passed and times has brought many heartaches and many tears I've seen my mother pass onto the great beyond and many loved ones have followed And I'd seen them go with dispairing hearts and tear dimmed eyes And now in later days as I stroll along The grassy footpaths to the old country churchyard And I view the final resting place of my departed kin I'm consoled by the thought that their sleep is a happy one There in the place where God and men are one And once again I seem to hear the voice of our gentle shepher saing Welcome welcome to my house my son
