After passing through the northern tier of Portage County, State Route 82 crosses central Trumbull County, becoming a freeway for ten miles (16km) along with State Route 5 as it bypasses the city of Warren. East of Warren, the route continues as a 4-lane divided highway, with level intersections at most secondary roads and interchanges with most other state highways, including a modified cloverleaf interchange with State Route 11. Just before the Pennsylvania state line, State Route 82 meets its eastern terminus with a full cloverleaf interchange in Masury at U.S. Route 62 and Trumbull CR 331 (Hubbard-Masury Road), which continues south.
From 1922 to about 1927, Route 82 west of Osceola was part of Route 26, which ran from the Kansas state line east to Osceola. It became part of US 54 west of El Dorado Springs in 1926 or 1927, and the eastern half was renumbered Route 62. When US 62 was extended into Missouri in the early 1930s, Route 62 became Route 82.
State Highway 82 is the main route from remote Wallowa County to La Grande which serves a transportation hub, providing access to main roads such as Interstate 84 and U.S. Route 30. It also sees extra tourist traffic in the summer, which mostly consists of travelers to Wallowa Lake, which is south of Joseph.
Route 82 is a short, state highway in Union County of the US state of New Jersey. It runs southeast from an intersection with Route 124 in Springfield Township along Morris Avenue to Route 439 in the Elizabeth general area. Along the 4.92 miles (7.92km) route, it serves local businesses and the main arterial of Union Township. Near its eastern terminus at Route 439, Route 82 passes through Kean University, a state college in New Jersey. Route 82 originates as of one two Route S24 alignments designated in the 1927 state highway renumbering. A spur of Route 24, it lasted for 26 years untouched until the 1953 state highway renumbering, when Union County's Route S-24 was designated as Route 82 and a portion of Route 439. The route's alignment has changed little since the 1953 renumbering.
Route description
Route 82 begins at a traffic light complex with New Jersey Route 124 eastbound and County Route 577 eastbound in the community of Springfield, New Jersey. The highway progresses southward along Morris Avenue through a large business district. A short distance after, Route 82 intersects with Maple Street, which serves Route 124 westbound and the community of Maplewood. The route continues southward along Morris, heading through the business district of Springfield. Residential homes begin to pop around the southbound direction before the highway crosses over the Rahway River. From there, Route 82 enters Union, where it enters a large commercial district once again. During the highway's progression southward, Route 82 enters more residential regions, intersecting with Liberty Avenue in the northern end of Union. Liberty Avenue connects Route 82 with U.S. Route 22 in Union. The highway continues southward along Morris Avenue, entering further into Union, where it serves as the main road to the community. At a fork with Elmwood Avenue, Route 82 diverts to the east along Morris, leaving the northern portion of Union.
From Cowen, the road travels past the Big Ditch Wildlife Management Area and through Boggs in Webster County until reaching the community of Birch River in Nicholas County.
With the exception of a small portion by Big Ditch Lake, the entire route follows the Birch River.
NY82 was assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York. An alternate route of NY82 from South Millbrook to Pine Plains, designated as New York State Route82A, was assigned at the same time. Part of NY82A was replaced by the new U.S. Route44 c.1935. The routings of NY82 and NY82A were swapped in the mid-1930s, but the change was reverted in the mid-1960s. Ownership and maintenance of NY82A was transferred from the state of New York to Dutchess County in 1980, at which time it was redesignated as County Route83 (CR83).
