How Oba Erediauwa of Benin caused the Nigerian Civil War in 1967
The Oba of Benin is the traditional ruler of the Edo people and head of the historic Eweka dynasty of the Benin Empire.
However, before becoming an Oba, Erediauwa was an outstanding civil servant. He, in fact, rose to become the Federal Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, before he retired in 1973. He was then known as Prince Solomon Akenzua.
Akenzua was part of the Nigerian contingent that travelled all the way to Aburi, Ghana, to attend what is now called “the Aburi meeting” where the Nigerian conflict was discussed between January 4th and 5th 1967.
Those who attended the meeting were Lieutenant-Colonels. Yakubu Gowon and Emeka Ojukwu, Commodore J.E.A. Wey, Major Mobolaji Johnson, Alhaji Kam Salem, and many others.

Lyrics:
You're the God of all flesh, maker of the universe
You're the source of my strength
The air I breathe
At the sound of your voice
Mountains bow and glory reigns
You're the light of my world
Everyday
I lift my hands
To worship you
Oba Olori Aye
I lift my hands
To worship you
Oba Olori Aye
Atobiju
The great I am
My song go rise from day to day
For all the things you have done for me
And my praise will be
The throne you sit
My heart go be your very home
Forever my praise will never cease
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
Oba olori aye
Unto you our praise will be
Oba olori aye
Oba olori aye
Unto you our praise will be
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
Awole ajubare oo
Oba awon oba
Oba olori aye

Lyrics:
You're the God of all flesh, maker of the universe
You're the source of my strength
The air I breathe
At the sound of your voice
Mountains bow and glory reigns
You're the light of my world
Everyday
I lift my hands
To worship you
Oba Olori Aye
I lift my hands
To worship you
Oba Olori Aye
Atobiju
The great I am
My song go rise from day to day
For all the things you have done for me
And my praise will be
The throne you sit
My heart go be your very home
Forever my praise will never cease
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
Oba olori aye
Unto you our praise will be
Oba olori aye
Oba olori aye
Unto you our praise will be
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
Awole ajubare oo
Oba awon oba
Oba olori aye
Awole ajubare oo
Oba awon oba
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye
We lift our hands
To worship you
Oba olori aye

The chairman of the Ghana National Liberation Council, Lieutenant-General Joseph Arthur Ankrah declared the meeting open in his capacity as the then head of state of Ghana.
So, you would ask, “How did the Oba of Benin cause the war?” The answer to that question is in this video. #HistoryVille #NigerianHistory #History
