Damien Leo Leith (born 18 January 1976 in Dublin) is an Irish-Australian singer–songwriter. He was the winner of the Network Ten music contest Australian Idol 2006. Since winning the title, Leith has released seven albums, four of which peaked in the top two of the ARIA Charts, including two number ones. He has also released eight singles. He has been awarded seven platinum and one gold certification for albums and singles by ARIA, which equates to sales of just over half a million.
Early life
As a teenager Leith formed a family band, "Leaf", with his sister Áine and brothers Paul and Darren. Leaf recorded in New York and then again later under the new name "Releaf", which made an appearance in the Irish Top 100. After moving to Sydney, he played in a number of high-profile venues, as front-man for a band known as Revelate. His first Australian performance was at The Basement in Sydney's Circular Quay.
Before auditioning for Australian Idol, Leith worked in Sydney as a chemist with Pharmalab utilising the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry he obtained from University College, Dublin and postgraduate experience within the Metallosupramolecular Research Group in the Chemistry Department of Trinity College, Dublin.
Following a successful 2011 where Leith's Roy: A Tribute To Roy Orbison album climbed to #2 on the ARIA album charts, had a national sell out tour, was a finalist on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and hosted his own TV program, Leith released his sixth album in six years, called Now & Then.
The “now” in Now & Then represents a selection of Damien’s self-penned songs. The collection includes a version of fan-favourite “Beautiful”, which is already being heard around the world as the
theme song for the new global campaign by perfume giant Estée Lauder.
And "then" in Now & Then sees Damien pick up where the Roy project left off, further celebrating and honouring the music of Roy Orbison, this time alongside the Traveling Wilburys.
Now & Then is the fifth album from the Carpenters, released on May 16, 1973. In Cash Box Year-End Charts of 1973, Now & Then appeared at number 20 and the title for the album was suggested by Karen and Richard's mother, Agnes Carpenter.
The Now & Then album also featured Mark Rudolph, a cousin of the Carpenters, on the "Guess the Golden Goodies Group Contest", as the listener who calls in. This is also one of only two albums where Karen did most or all of the drumming - the other being Offering (later rereleased as Ticket to Ride) - although on this album, she plays all of the drum tracks with the exception of Jambalaya (On the Bayou), which had Los Angeles session drummer Hal Blaine on the drums.
"Now and Then" (also known as "I Don't Want to Lose You" or "Miss You") is the name given to an unreleased composition by John Lennon. It was first recorded in demo form in 1978 and was considered in 1995 as a third possible reunion single by Lennon's former band, The Beatles, for their 1995 autobiographical project The Beatles Anthology.
Lennon wrote "Now and Then" in the late 1970s, around the same time as "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love". He recorded the unfinished piece of music in a demo form at his home at the Dakota Building, New York City, around 1979. The lyrics are typical of the apologetic love songs that Lennon wrote in the later half of his career. Despite reports, for the most part the verses are nearly complete, though there are still a few lines that Lennon did not flesh out on the demo tape performance.
The Beatles' version
In January 1994, Paul McCartney was given two tape cassettes by Lennon's widow Yoko Ono that included home recordings of songs Lennon never completed or released commercially. The songs on the tape included the eventually completed and released "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love", in addition to two other songs was a tape with the words "for Paul" scrawled hastily in John's handwriting, which included "Grow Old With Me" and "Now and Then". In March 1995, the three surviving Beatles began work on "Now and Then" by recording a rough backing track that was to be used as an overdub. However, after only two days of recording, all work on the song ceased and plans for a third reunion single were scrapped permanently.
The earliest surviving historical references are in the royal charter authorising the construction of Holyrood Abbey in 1128. The medieval settlements of Leith had grown into a burgh by 1833, and the burgh was merged into Edinburgh in 1920.
The port remains one of its most valuable enterprises, handling over 1.5 million tonnes of cargo a year in 2003.
South and North Leith
Previous to the bridge being built in the late 15th century, Leith had settlements on either side of the river, lacking an easy crossing.
South Leith was larger and was controlled by the lairds of Restalrig: the Logan family. It was based on trade and had many merchants' houses and warehouses. This was where ships offloaded their cargoes at The Shore where they were collected by Edinburgh merchants. Leithers were explicitly forbidden by statute to participate directly in the trade at the port, to ensure that landed goods were not sold elsewhere.

The Beatles - Now And Then (Music Video)
"Now and Then" is a single by The British rock band The Beatles, released on November 2, 2023. This track is part of a double A-side single, which also includes a new mix of their first single, "Love Me Do", original from 1962. Known as "the last Beatles song", "Now and Then" will be included on the expanded reissue of the 1973 "1967-1970" compilation, scheduled for November 10, 2023.
The song was originally written and recorded by John Lennon around 1977 as a home piano demo, but was left incomplete. After Lennon's death in 1980, the inclusion of "Now and Then" was proposed as the Beatles' third reunion single within their retrospective project "The Beatles Anthology" from 1995-1996, succeeding "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love", both based on Lennon demos. However, the song was not includ...

This remarkable story of musical archaeology reflects The Beatles’ endless creative curiosity and shared fascination with technology. It marks the completion of the last recording that John, Paul and George and Ringo will get to make together and celebrates the legacy of the foremost and most influential band in popular music history.

#TheBeatles #NowAndThen #JohnLennon #PaulMcCartney #GeorgeHarrison #RingoStarr
Now and Then's eventful journey to fruition took place over five decades and is the product of conversations and collaborations between the four Beatles that go on to this day. The long mythologised John Lennon demo was first worked on in February 1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of The Beatles Anthology project but it remained unfinished, partly because of the impossible technological challenges involved in working with the vocal John had recorded on tape in the 1970s. For years it looked like the song could never be completed. But in 2022 there was a stroke of serendipity. A software system developed by Peter Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the documentary series Get Back, finally opened the way for the uncoupling of John’s vocal from his piano part.
As a result, the original recording could be brought to life and worked on anew with contributions from all four Beatles. This remarkable story of musical archaeology reflects The Beatles’ endless creative curiosity and shared fascination with technology. It marks the completion of the last recording that John, Paul and George and Ringo will get to make together and celebrates the legacy of the foremost and most influential band in popular music history.

[Intro: Paul McCartney]
(One, two, three)
[Refrain: John Lennon]
I know it's true
It's all because of you
And if I make it through
It's all because of you
[Verse 1: John Lennon, John Lennon & Paul McCartney]
And now and then
If we must start again
Well, we will know for sure
That I will love you
[Chorus: John Lennon & Paul McCartney]
Now and then
I miss you
Oh, now and then
I want you to be there for me
Always to return to me
[Verse 2: John Lennon]
I know it's true
It's all because of you
And if you go away
I know you'll never stay
[Chorus: John Lennon & Paul McCartney]
Now and then
I miss you
Oh, now and then
I want you to be there for me
[Bridge: George Harrison]
(Ah)
(Ah)
(Ah)
(Ooh)
(Ah)
[Refrain: John Lennon]
I know it's true,
It's all because of you,
And if I make it through,
It's all because of you
[Instrumental Break]

However, the song was not included on "Anthology 3" and remained shelved for almost three decades.
The song was later finalized by surviving band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who made new recordings of the original track and included George Harrison's guitar tracks from the abandoned 1995 sessions.
The definitive version incorporates additional lyrics by McCartney and Lennon's vocals, extracted from the original demo using artificial intelligence-supported audio restoration technology, commissioned by Peter Jackson for his 2021 documentary "The Beatles: Get Back." Jackson has also directed the music video for "Now and Then."

[Intro: Paul McCartney]
(One, two, three)
[Refrain: John Lennon]
I know it's true
It's all because of you
And if I make it through
It's all because of you
[Verse 1: John Lennon, John Lennon & Paul McCartney]
And now and then
If we must start again
Well, we will know for sure
That I will love you
[Chorus: John Lennon & Paul McCartney]
Now and then
I miss you
Oh, now and then
I want you to be there for me
Always to return to me
[Verse 2: John Lennon]
I know it's true
It's all because of you
And if you go away
I know you'll never stay
[Chorus: John Lennon & Paul McCartney]
Now and then
I miss you
Oh, now and then
I want you to be there for me
