The North East Guadalcanal constituency has existed since the First Parliament in 1976. Its inaugural MP was Waita Ben Tabusasi.
In 1989, Tabusasi was elected Speaker, thereby vacating his seat and prompting a bye-election. The latter resulted in a woman being elected to the National Parliament for the first time – Hilda Kari. Kari retained a seat in the 1994 general election, but as candidate for East Central Guadalcanal; the North East Guadalcanal seat was won by Sir Baddley Devesi.
Currently, the MP for North East Guadalcanal is Dr Derek Sikua, who was Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010. He first won the seat in 2006, and retained it in the 2010 general election. In 2010, he faced five other candidates, all of them independents, whereas he stood as candidate for the Liberal Party. He won by an overwhelming margin, with 2,535 votes - well ahead of second-placed candidate Alfred Lovanitila, who obtained 887.
The points of the compass are points on a compass, specifically on the compass rose, marking divisions of the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, West. The number of points may be only the 4 cardinal points, or the 8 principal points adding the intercardinal (or ordinal) directions northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). In meteorological usage further intermediate points are added to give the sixteen points of a wind compass. Finally, at the most complete in European tradition, are found the full thirty-two points of the mariner's compass. In ancient China 24 points of the compass were used.
In the mariner's exercise of boxing the compass, all thirty-two points of the compass are named in clockwise order. The names of intermediate points are formed by the initials of the cardinal directions and their intermediate ordinal directions, and are very handy to refer to a heading (or course or azimuth) in a general or colloquial fashion, without having to resort to computing or recalling degrees. For most applications, the minor points have been superseded by degrees measured clockwise from North.
The district is bounded by 24th to the west, San Pablo Avenue to the east, Macdonald and Ohio Avenues to the south and southeast respectively, and lastly Bush and Moran Avenues to the north.Richmond Heights lies to the east and borders the neighborhood along San Pablo Avenue.
Infrastructure
Salesian High School is located on the northern end of the area. The Macdonald 80 Shopping Center is a major shopping area for the community on the southern end; the area around the center features grocery stores, banks, and local small businesses.
The community is governed by the city of Richmond directly and has its own neighborhood council the North & East Neighborhood Council that delegates between the Central Richmond communities residents and businesses with local government. The council is headquartered at the Recreation Center at 3230 Macdonald Avenue.
It was written by brothers Leofwine Loraine and Tristan Loraine with the first draft of the screen play being completed on 2 May 2008. Principal photography commenced on 21 July 2008 with Tristan Loraine as director and producer. The film cast includes John Rhys-Davies, Marina Sirtis, Heather Peace and Craig Fairbrass.
The film music was composed by Paul Garbutt and David Leo Kemp and also includes an appearance by New Zealand born violinist/composer Fiona Pears.
Plot
31 North 62 East tells the story of a British Prime Minister who gives up the position of an Special Air Service (SAS) unit in Afghanistan to ensure a UK £80 billion arms deal goes through, assuring his re-election. All soldiers in the SAS unit are thought to have died, until two months later, when one of them, a female captain, is found by Italian special forces and returns to the UK to investigate.
