Solomon came under FBI scrutiny after he picketed for the desegregation of a Maryland apartment complex at age 14. He drew further FBI surveillance for his efforts on behalf of the Montgomery County Student Alliance activist group both while a student and after dropping out of high school. He became aware of their surveillance later, through a Freedom of Information request. According to Solomon's autobiography, a book he titled Made Love, Got War, he chose to drop out of high school during the summer after he completed his Junior year of high school.
Solomon (/ˈsɒləmən/; Hebrew: שְׁלֹמֹה, ModernShlomo, TiberianŠəlōmōISO 259-3Šlomo; Syriac:ܫܠܝܡܘܢShlemun; Arabic:سُليمانSulaymān, also colloquially: Silimān or Slemān; Greek:ΣολομώνSolomōn; Latin:Salomon), also called Jedidiah (Hebrew יְדִידְיָהּ), was, according to the Bible (Book of Kings: 1 Kings 1–11; Book of Chronicles: 1 Chronicles 28–29, 2 Chronicles 1–9), Qur'an, and Hidden Words a fabulously wealthy and wise king of Israel and a son of David. The conventional dates of Solomon's reign are circa 970 to 931BC, normally given in alignment with the dates of David's reign. He is described as the third king of the United Monarchy, which would break apart into the northern Kingdom of Israel and the southern Kingdom of Judah shortly after his death. Following the split, his patrilineal descendants ruled over Judah alone.
According to the Talmud, Solomon is one of the 48 prophets. In the Qur'an, he is considered a major prophet, and Muslims generally refer to him by the Arabic variant Sulayman, son of David. Solomon (Arabic سليمان Sulaymān) was, according to the Qur'an, a king of ancient Israel as well as the son of David. The Qur'an recognizes Solomon as a prophet and a divinely-appointed monarch. Islamic tradition generally holds that Solomon was the third king of Israel and was a just and wise ruler for the nation.
Solomon is a New Zealand band, who in 2007 were crowned the overall winners (out of 650 bands) of the Smokefreerockquest. Along with this, they took home the award for best song for Grand Vocation.
Solomon's first success in the competition came the previous year when they came second.
Fronted by Michael Cho, and featuring keyboardist Philip Kim, the band has now been together for 5 years. All the band's members are originally from Rangitoto College, on Auckland's North Shore.
The Kingdom of Solomon is an Iranianreligious/historical film trilogy, produced by Mojtaba Faravardeh and directed by Shahriar Bahrani who has made Saint Mary before. The Kingdom of Solomon was going to be released internationally on November 2010 after its screening in Iran, but due to some technicalities its global release has been delayed. The film tells the life story of Prophet Solomon, the King of Israelites. It is mostly based on the Islamic accounts of Solomon's prophetic life extracted from the Qur'an but it also draws upon parallels found in some Jewish texts.
Plot
Solomon is a wise prophet selected as the crown prince by his father King David (Dawud in Islamic texts) when he was 9. Following Prophet David's death, Solomon succeeds to the crown and God appoints him as a prophet. Requesting from God the establishment of a divine kingdom, Solomon takes the wind under his command and jinns and demons under his control. Inviting rulers of the neighbouring lands to the monotheistic religion, Prophet Solomon continues his divine mission in as much as Balqis, the Queen of Sheba professes monotheism. At the end, while leaning on his cane, Solomon bids farewell to the world, and the jinns and demons get out of reign and return to their own world.
"Her reality was, so to speak, a crowbar to open the lid on what had been sealed, which is the human dimension. The media and politics don't engage with death very well. And Bush has been effective until this summer at keeping US victims of this war in a hazy middle distance, close enough to exploit as a photo-op prop but not up close and personal enough to begin to deal with the grief of war."
"The policies are matters of priorities. And the priorities of the Bush White House are clear. For killing in Iraq, they spare no expense. For protecting and sustaining life, the cupboards go bare The problem is not incompetence. It's inhumanity, cruelty and greed."
"War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death."
"This is a classic trade-union stance,"
"That's a very different approach to what the CAW has done in the past."
"The boast that the United States is now the world's only superpower has a grim undertow in the area of human rights; no one can tell Washington what to do or not do, no matter how egregious its cruelties."
"They should be fighting the effects of flood waters at home - helping people in the communities they know best - not battling Iraqi people who want them to go away."
"The character of the Bush administration is such that the U.S. delegation to the United Nations will -- in practice -- indignantly refuse to recognize a single standard of human rights whenever such a standard would put the U.S. record in a negative light."
"But the U.S. Record, as assessed by independent organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, is reprehensible."
"Nearly 96 hours after the Observer had reported it, I called Times deputy foreign editor Alison Smale and asked why not. 'We would normally expect to do our own intelligence reporting,' Smale replied. She added that 'we could get no confirmation or comment.' In other words, U.S. intelligence officials refused to confirm or discuss the memo -- so the Times did not see fit to report on it."
War Made Easy: Norman Solomon on How Mainstream Media Helped Pave Way for U.S. Invasion of Iraq
As we continue to mark the 20th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, we look at how the corporate U.S. media helped pave the way for war by uncritically amplifying lies and misrepresentations from the Bush administration while silencing voices of dissent. Longtime media critic Norman Solomon says many of the same media personalities and news outlets that pushed aggressively for the invasion then are now helping to solidify an elite consensus around the Ukraine war. "In the mass media, being pro-war is portrayed as objective. Being antiwar is portrayed as being biased," he says. Solomon is author of _War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death_ and the forthcoming _War Made Invisible: How America Hides the Human Toll of Its Military Machine_.

America's secret wars w/Norman Solomon | The Marc Steiner Show
Since 9/11, US wars have become widespread, everyday affairs that most Americans know next to nothing about. The largest wars like Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya have a limited place in public consciousness, but the dozens of secret operations taking place across the planet are alien to most of us. How does the war machine work today, and how do government, the media, and new technologies help to obscure war from the public? Norman Solomon tackles these questions on The Marc Steiner Show in a discussion around his new book, War Made Invisible: How America Hides the Human Toll of Its Military Machine.

Norman Solomon: Warren not endorsing Sanders would be "de facto assistance to corporate power"
Senator Elizabeth Warren suspended her presidential campaign Thursday after a lackluster performance in the Super Tuesday primaries, but has yet to endorse a Democratic candidate for president. In an interview with Rachel Maddow shortly after her departure from the 2020 race, Warren accused Bernie Sanders's supporters of engaging in "organized nastiness" online. Racist and sexist attacks should be condemned and fought against, says RootsAction.org co-founder and national coordinator Norman Solomon, but must also be seen in the context of a broader assault on Sanders by corporate media and part of "a pattern of bias against Bernie Sanders that shouldn’t be a surprise, but should outrage us." Amid the varied smears against Sanders, Warren's promise to "stay in the fight" beyond her president...

More than twenty years ago, 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan set into motion a hugely consequential shift in America’s foreign policy: a perpetual state of war that is almost entirely invisible to the American public. War Made Invisible, by the journalist and political analyst Norman Solomon, exposes how this happened, and what its consequences are, from military and civilian casualties to drained resources at home.

Racist and sexist attacks should be condemned and fought against, says RootsAction.org co-founder and national coordinator Norman Solomon, but must also be seen in the context of a broader assault on Sanders by corporate media and part of "a pattern of bias against Bernie Sanders that shouldn’t be a surprise, but should outrage us." Amid the varied smears against Sanders, Warren's promise to "stay in the fight" beyond her presidential campaign must include a clear articulation of what kind of policies she's pushing for, he says. "If that fight is to affirm the human rights of all human beings, how can she stay neutral?" Solomon says. "Every day goes by and Elizabeth Warren fails to endorse Bernie Sanders … is a de facto assistance to corporate power, to corporate America and Joe Biden."

At Tuesday’s Democratic presidential debate, candidates offered differing views on what should happen to NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden for exposing illegal mass surveillance. "He stole very important information that has unfortunately fallen into a lot of the wrong hands," said front-runner Hillary Clinton. "So I don’t think he should be brought home without facing the music." The four other candidates expressed appreciation for Snowden’s leaks and said his exposure of wrongdoing should be taken into account. We get reaction from Norman Solomon, longtime activist and executive director of the Institute for Public Accuracy.
