Nonpoint is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The band currently consists of vocalist Elias Soriano, drummer Robb Rivera, guitarists Rasheed Thomas and B.C. Kochmit, and bassist Adam Woloszyn.
History
Early years (1997-2000)
Nonpoint was formed in January 1997 emerging from the popular burgeoning South Florida metal scene of the mid-to-late 1990s by drummer Robb Rivera, vocalist Elias Soriano. The name Nonpoint came from a Believer song of the same name. Soriano recalls: "I dug the name so I started using it around that time. It has no real meaning to us. It has something to do with pollution, but to us it just sounded cool." The band self-released their first album, "Separate Yourself" in late 1998. The band's first commercially released album Struggle was released on May 18, 1999 on the now-defunct Jugular Records.
Statement (2000-2002)
The band released their debut major label album Statement on October 10, 2000 via MCA Records. To promote the album, as well as the band on a nationwide scale, Nonpoint toured with such artists as Hed PE, Mudvayne, Fuel, Taproot, Drowning Pool, with their main tour appearing on the United States leg of the 2001 Ozzfest tour. A year after its release, the album entered the Billboard 200 charts, where it peaked at No.166. The first single from the album, "What a Day", peaked at No.24 on the Mainstream Rock charts.
Nonpoint is the seventh studio album by American rock/metal band Nonpoint released on October 9, 2012 under Razor & Tie. The album was produced and engineered by Johnny K (Disturbed, Staind, Sevendust) at Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, Illinois. In June 2012, the band released two songs from the album, "I Said It" and "Left for You", the latter of which serves as the album's lead single. This is the first album to feature guitarists Rasheed Thomas and Dave Lizzio, and bassist Adam Woloszyn.
Recording and production
The album was produced/mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Johnny K at Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, Illinois and features additional production and mixing from Brian Virtue features new lineup and label. Soriano explains the new album, "We wanted this record to be a punch in the face. There was a lot of stuff I wanted to artistically vent about. It's a fresh start for us. We felt like having a self-titled record says it all. We hit the reset button, and there's life again. You can hear it musically. We're not going anywhere." "This album is the beginning of a brand new chapter in the world of NONPOINT... rejuvenated and full of positivity," adds Rivera. "Elias has written his most personal lyrics yet that shows the signs of endurance this band has had in our 15-year career."
