The Nineteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt (notated Dynasty XIX) was one of the periods of the Egyptian New Kingdom. Founded by VizierRamesses I, whom PharaohHoremheb chose as his successor to the throne, this dynasty is best known for its military conquests in Canaan.
The warrior kings of the early 18th Dynasty had encountered only little resistance from neighbouring kingdoms, allowing them to expand their realm of influence easily. The situation had changed radically towards the end of the 18th Dynasty. The Hittites gradually extended their influence into Syria and Canaan to become a major power in international politics, a power that both Seti I and his son Ramesses II would need to deal with.
The Pharaohs of the 19th Dynasty
The Pharaohs of the 19th dynasty ruled for approximately one hundred and ten years: from c. 1292 to 1187 BC. Seti I's reign is today considered to be 11 years and not 15 years by both J. von Beckerath and Peter Brand, who wrote a biography on this pharaoh's reign. Consequently, it will be amended to 11 years or 1290-1279 BC. Therefore, Seti's father and predecessor would have ruled Egypt between 1292-1290 BC. Many of the pharaohs were buried in the Valley of the Kings in Thebes (designated KV). More information can be found on the Theban Mapping Project website.
The spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa striata) is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family. It breeds in most of Europe and western Asia, and is migratory, wintering in Africa and south western Asia. It is declining in parts of its range.
This is an undistinguished looking bird with long wings and tail. The adults have grey-brown upperparts and whitish underparts, with a streaked crown and breast, giving rise to the bird's common name. The legs are short and black, and the bill is black and has the broad but pointed shape typical of aerial insectivores. Juveniles are browner than adults and have spots on the upperparts.
Behaviour and ecology
Spotted flycatchers hunt from conspicuous perches, making sallies after passing flying insects, and often returning to the same perch. Their upright posture is characteristic.
Spotted flycatchers exhibit an atypical molt strategy, that is they molt their primaries and some of their secondaries in the reverse order from what is seen in most passerines.
There is/has been more than one band called Egypt over the years. This can cause confusion with albums & tracks from different 'Egypts' often listed together as if they were one band. This Egypt (1987 to the present) is best known for its close connections to 1960s/70s band The Groundhogs and, just to add to the confusion, had a very different style and line-up in the early days, making many people believe they were two different bands.
The early years
Egypt's original line-up first got together in a squat in Shepherds Bush, London in late 1987, but the story really begins a few weeks before when ex-Groundhogs bass player Alan Fish and ex-Jethro Tull drummer Clive Bunker were asked to record the very first album release (literally serial number 001) for the then fledgling record label HTD Records (HTD are now Talking Elephant Records and deal with Wishbone Ash, Fairport Convention, Ritchie Blackmore, Steven Stills, etc.). Also included was guitarist Don Greer (ex-Bachman Turner Overdrive and others).
Egypt is a BBC televisiondocudrama serial portraying events in the history of Egyptology from the 18th through early 20th centuries. It originally aired on Sunday nights at 9pm on BBC1 in 2005. The first two episodes explored the work of Howard Carter and his archaeological quest in Egypt in the early part of the twentieth century. The next two episodes focused on the eccentric explorer "The Great Belzoni". played here by ]Matthew Kelly. The final two episodes dramatise the discovery and deciphering of the Rosetta Stone by Jean-François Champollion (Elliot Cowan).
The music was recorded by the Warsaw Radio Orchestra and is featured on the CD Timeless Histories by Chappell music, produced by Clare Isaacs.
Production
The series was a major new docudrama series produced by the BBC for the Autumn 2005 schedule.
In order to create a sense of "seeing the treasures of Ancient Egypt for the first time", Dolling and Bradshaw felt it essential to film at the actual archaeological sites referenced in the series.

History of Ancient Egypt: Dynasty XX - Sea Peoples, Late Bronze Age Collapse and the End of an Era
In this program we'll take a close look at the period spanning the 20th Dynasty of ancient Egypt, which may have arguably been one of the most trying times in the country's history. After years of internal turmoil, Egypt faced a massive foreign invasion by a mysterious group of marauders and migrants who modern scholars have collectively called the Sea Peoples. Not only did they threaten Egypt's vast empire in Canaan and the Levant, but possibly even the existence of the ancient Egyptian civilization itself. The aftermath of this great confrontation resulted in the gradual decline of Egypt's fortunes as a whole as well as the decay of perhaps its last great dynasty. With harem conspiracies, corruption and the famous royal tomb robberies and trials, the events and intrigues of 20th Dyna...

In this program we'll take a close look at the period spanning the 20th Dynasty of ancient Egypt, which may have arguably been one of the most trying times in the country's history. I haven't made a video specifically on the Hittites, but they were a powerful force of the ancient world; a kingdom of ancient Anatolia, whose capital city was Hattusa.
During the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egyptian history there was a Hittite King named Suppiluliuma I. His son was Mursilis II, originally chief of the Royal Bodyguards but then he became king in his own right.
Mursilis gives us a fascinating insight into a key period of Ancient Egyptian history because when he compiled his father's biography, he mentions a correspondence with a widowed Egyptian queen, who experts identify as Queen Ankhesenamun – the wife of the deceased boy-king Tutankhamen.
As you may already know, Ankhesenamun went on to marry Ay, the former vizier to King Tutankhamen, who went on to become the next pharaoh of the 18th dynasty.
The biography of King Suppiluliuma, written by his son, is extremely eye opening, because we learn that the widowed queen did not wish to marry Ay, and there is also a conspiracy that Ay may have even murdered a Hittite prince on his way to the throne.
The death of this prince led to huge hostilities between the Egyptians and the Hittites, a dispute that culminated with a 19th dynasty treaty signed by Ramesses the Great after the famous Battle of Kadesh.
The biography written by the son of Suppiluliuma has been translated by Egyptologist Jenny Hill and published on https://ancientegyptonline.co.uk/suppiluliuma-letter/ and you can hear the words in this video. Visit Jenny's website for more incredible sources and information on Ancient Egypt.

Ancient Egypt's 19th Dynasty has left a huge mark on their country's long history. Unlike their predecessors, the Ramessid's ability to produce a vast quantity of heirs made it seem like their dynasty would be one to last for centuries. However, this resulted in problems all its own, as infighting amongst Egypt's most powerful family began to tear them apart.

With harem conspiracies, corruption and the famous royal tomb robberies and trials, the events and intrigues of 20th Dynasty Egypt could make for a great HBO series like Game of Thrones. So prepare the popcorn and get comfortable as you won't want to miss this episode of Ancient Egypt, Dynasty by Dynasty.
