Nihon Falcom Corporation(日本ファルコム株式会社,Nihon Farukomu Kabushiki-kaisha) is a Japanese video game company. The company was founded in March 1981 by Masayuki Kato. Falcom has played a definite role in the growth and development of the Japanese personal computer software industry. The company released one of the first Japanese role-playing video games in 1983 and followed with real-timeaction and adventure games as well as games with fully developed soundtracks. They are credited with pioneering the action role-playing game genre and the Japanese role-playing game industry, and remain one of the oldest role-playing game developers still in existence today.
History
Falcom was one of the three most important Japanese role-playing video game developers in the 1980s, alongside Enix and Square, both of which were influenced by Falcom. They are credited with laying the foundations for the Japanese role-playing game industry.

I've been a fan of Falcom's Trails series for a while and always found the company's history to be very interesting since they have been around for so long, releasing their first games during the genesis of the industry in Japan. I started researching their history just to learn more about the company and, over time, it eventually turned into this hour long video. This ended up being a huge project that I spent about 4-5 months working on and is by far the longest video I've ever made. Hopefully it is informative and enjoyable. If I goofed up any of my facts, please let me know. Also, in order to keep things concise, I did not overview the stories or dive deep into the gameplay mechanics of Falcom's titles and instead focused on their development and the impact they had on the industry.

This is a video where I talk about the early history of Nihon Falcom, covering about the first 30 years of their output.

While researching for this video I dug through a bunch of old Japanese magazines on Archive Dot Org and collected an assortment of Falcom advertisements. You can see all the ads I found here: https://www.giantbomb.com/profile/bowl-of-lentils/images/?tag=Falcom%20Advertisements
I also collected Falcom's news letters from Micom Basic Magazine which you can view here: https://www.giantbomb.com/profile/bowl-of-lentils/images/?tag=Falcom%20News%20Express
A lot of people will tell you 2023 is going to be a banner year for gaming. It definitely is. However, I'd argue it's the year of Falcom, with three games coming out in the west and multiple Asian releases Falcom are going hard at things. I'm crazy excited for what 2023 and beyond have in store for this lesser known Japanese developer.
Want exhaustive detail on why we wait so long for Falcom games in the west then here are two videos that cover that. One by @MattMcMuscles in a What Happun? Episode and the other by @TheKisekiNut both are certainly worth watching:
