Niğde Province
Niğde Province (Turkish: Niğde ili) is a province in the southern part of Central Anatolia, Turkey. Population is 341,412 (2013 est) of which 141,360 live in the city of Niğde. The population was 348,081 in 2000 and 305,861 in 1990. It covers an area of 7,312 km². Neighbouring provinces are Kayseri, Adana, Mersin, Konya, Aksaray and Nevşehir.
The province is surrounded on three sides by ranges of the Taurus Mountains, including Mount Hasan and the Melendiz mountains. To the west lies the plain of Emen, which opens up into the wide plain of Konya. The plain is covered with nutritious volcanic soil and Niğde is a successful agricultural region, particularly apples and potatoes.
Surrounded by mountains and at a fairly high altitude the area has a dry and chilly climate and is exposed to snows brought by cold north winds in winter. Average rainfall 0.9 mm, 78.5 mm in April, practically zero in July and August. Therefore, the hillsides are more or less bare of vegetation, with some forest at the higher altitudes.

Niğde
Niğde is a town and the capital of Niğde Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey at an elevation of 1,300 m. In 2010 the population was 109,724.
The town is located between the volcanic Melandiz Mountains, which include the Mount Hasan stratovolcano near the city of Aksaray to the north, and the Niğde Massif to the south-southeast. The massif is a metamorphic dome that contains abandoned antimony and iron mines. Several marble quarries are currently active in the pure white crystalline marble of the massif.
One of the most historically important places in Turkey is near Nigde; The Gumusler cave church, in a small village close to central Nigde.
History

According to Ibn Battuta, ruinous, and did not pass into Ottoman hands till the time of Mehmet II.

Niğde, located in the southeast of Turkey's Central Anatolian Region and in the Cappadocia region, is surrounded by Aksaray in the northwest, Nevşehir in the north, Kayseri in the northeast, Konya in the west and southwest, Niğde province in the south, Bolkar mountains and Mersin in the south, Aladağlar in the southeast and east. The main livelihood of the people is agriculture and animal husbandry. Niğde province ranks first in the number of apple trees in the country. 25% of the country's potato production is produced in this province. However, Niğde Central Organized Industry, Bor Leather Organized Industry, carpet factory and other small industrial branches are important employment areas for the people of Niğde. Niğde is an important province in terms of traditional handicrafts. Nigde carpets produced in the province is to find customers in many countries.

Niğde Province (Turkish: Niğde ili) is a province in the southern part of Central Anatolia, Turkey. Population is 341,412 (2013 est) of which 141,360 live in the city of Niğde. The population was 348,081 in 2000 and 305,861 in 1990. It covers an area of 7,312 km2. Neighbouring provinces are Kayseri, Adana, Mersin, Konya, Aksaray and Nevşehir.
The province is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges: the Taurus Mountains, Mount Hasan, and the Melendiz mountains. To the west lies the plain of Emen, which opens up into the wide plain of Konya. The plain is covered with nutritious volcanic soil and Niğde is a successful agricultural region, particularly apples and potatoes.
Surrounded by mountains and at a fairly high altitude the area has a dry and chilly climate and is exposed to snows brought by cold north winds in winter. Average rainfall 0.9 mm, 78.5 mm in April, practically zero in July and August. Therefore, the hillsides are more or less bare of vegetation, with some forest at the higher altitudes.
Niğde, Türkiye'nin İç Anadolu Bölgesi’nin güneydoğusunda ve Kapadokya bölgesinde yer alan merkezi Niğde kenti olan idari birimdir. Rakımı 1.229 m olan Niğde ilinin 2019 nüfusu 362.861’dir.[4] Aksaray, Nevşehir, Kayseri ve Konya illerine komşu olan Niğde, güneyde Bolkar Dağları ile Mersin ilinden, güneydoğu ve doğudan Aladağlar’ın oluşturduğu doğal sınırlarla da Adana ilinden ayrılır. Genel olarak İç Anadolu Bölgesi'nde olan ilin Çamardı ve Ulukışla ilçeleri Akdeniz Bölgesi'nde yer almaktadır.
Termal kaynakları ören yerleri, zengin tarihî dokusu, doğal güzellikleri, dağ ve kış turizmi olanakları; kenti turizm merkezi yapan önemli unsurlardır.
Halkın esas geçim kaynağı tarım ve hayvancılıktır. Elma ağacı sayısında Niğde ili ülke sıralamasında ilk sırada yer alır. Ülke genelinde patates üretiminin ise % 25'lik bölümü bu ilde üretilir. Aladağlar ile Melendiz dağları arasında, Kayseri iliyle Akdeniz Bölgesini bağlayan ortalama 1.250 m yükseklikteki platoda bulunur. Niğde'nin Grekçe karşılığı Νίγδη Nigdi, Hititçe eski adı ise Nahita ya da Naxita'dır. Niğde'nin en eski adının Nahita ya da Nakita olduğu öne sürülmektedir. Bu ada ilk kez İbn Bibi'de rastlanmıştır.
Eski CHP Niğde Milletvekili Dr. Avram Galanti ise Niğde kitabında:“Niğde’nin en eski ismi Anahita’dır. Anahita, bir ilahenin ismidir ki, kameri ve bereketi temsil eder.” demektedir.
Nakida adı kimi zaman Nekide olarak da kullanılmış, 14. yüzyılda aynı sözcük Arap harfleriyle Nîkde okunacak biçimde yazılmıştır. Cumhuriyet'ten sonra bu ad, Niğde'ye dönüştürülmüştür.

Niğde Province
Niğde Province (Turkish: Niğde ili) is a province in the southern part of Central Anatolia, Turkey. Population is 341,412 (2013 est) of which 141,360 live in the city of Niğde. The population was 348,081 in 2000 and 305,861 in 1990. It covers an area of 7,312 km². Neighbouring provinces are Kayseri, Adana, Mersin, Konya, Aksaray and Nevşehir.
The province is surrounded on three sides by ranges of the Taurus Mountains, including Mount Hasan and the Melendiz mountains. To the west lies the plain of Emen, which opens up into the wide plain of Konya. The plain is covered with nutritious volcanic soil and Niğde is a successful agricultural region, particularly apples and potatoes.
Surrounded by mountains and at a fairly high altitude the area has a dry and chilly climate and is exposed to snows brought by cold north winds in winter. Average rainfall 0.9 mm, 78.5 mm in April, practically zero in July and August. Therefore, the hillsides are more or less bare of vegetation, with some forest at the higher altitudes.
