Muti Conducts Beethoven 9
On May 7, 1824, Beethoven shared his Ninth Symphony with the world even though he could never hear it. On May 7, 2015, celebrate the anniversary of Beethovenâs most glorious and jubilant masterpiece with Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. An exhilarating testament to the human spirit, Beethovenâs Ninth bursts with brooding power and kinetic energy and culminates in the exultant hymn, âOde to Joy.â

Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 Pathetique | Dresden Philharmonic & Marek Janowski
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, also known as 'Pathétique', is one of the very great symphonies in the history of music. The famous work was performed by the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Marek Janowski in this concert at the Kulturpalast Dresden 2019.
(00:00) I. Adagio - Allegro non troppo
(17:32) II. Allegro con grazia
(24:54) III. allegro molto vivace
(33:49) IV. Finale: Adagio lamentoso
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893) took just a few months to compose the Sixth Symphony and he conducted its premiere himself in St. Petersburg on October 28, 1893. Initially Tchaikovsky had called his Sixth 'A Programme Symphony', but after the premiere he unceremoniously gave it the epithet 'Pathetique' â and that is how it has gone down in history.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never a honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain

Lyrics:
Conductor: Have you seen a trumpet play?
Or a viola start to sway?
When some clarinets play sweet duets,
All your worries go away.
These are the instruments of the orchestra,
Their sounds all blend together when they play for ya.
They are the strings, winds, brass, and percussion too.
As I lead with my baton, theyâll play together for you.
STRINGS
Violin: We are the string family,
Bass: We are the largest section and have pegs to help us stay in key
Cello: Most of us have four strings
Viola: And when you pluck, strike, or bow them, they vibrate and sing!
Harp: Our hollow wooden bodies amplify the sound
Violin,
Viola,
Cello,
Bass
(and Harp)
All strings: are the main strings around
WOODWINDS
Bassoon: We are the woodwinds, we make sound using your breath,
Clarinet: Our bodies are long and we have keys that you can press,
Flute: Blow some air across a hole to make a high flute melody,
Oboe and Bassoon: Oboe and bassoon both have a double reeds,
Oboe: But the orchestra tunes themselves to me.
Clarinet: The clarinet has just one reed to blow,
All woodwinds: we blend well together and you can find us sitting in the second row.
BRASS
All brass: Weâre the brass section and no other can compare,
If you're looking for a march, a big band, or a grand fanfare,
F horn: You blow and buzz your lips through a mouthpiece shaped just like a cup,
Tube: We have six to eighteen feet of tubes that are coiled up.
Trumpet,
Horn,
And Tuba
Trpt, Horn, Tuba: play their valves with pride,
Trombone: But the trombone makes its notes with a slide!
PERCUSSION
Marimba: There is no discussion, the percussion is the
All: loudest,
Vibraphone: We sit in the back, but you hear us where the
ALL: crowd is.
Glockenspiel: We have lots of instruments in our crew,
Timpanum: So weâll split into two categories for you:
We are
All: Pitched percussion,
Chimes: We make different tones,
Timpani,
Marimba,
and Xylophones,
Vibraphone,
Glockenspiel,

We are
All: Pitched percussion,
Chimes: We make different tones,
Timpani,
Marimba,
and Xylophones,
Vibraphone,
Glockenspiel,
Chimes,
and Celeste,
All: Good luck counting all of the bars that we rest.

According to Tchaikovsky, the actual program is full of subjective emotions and is meant to remain a mystery. The 6th Symphony is characterized by a mixture of conventional symphonic structure and certain tragic features. Tragic, for example, is the key of B minor, which is considered somber, and the motif of the falling second, which runs through the entire work like a lament. The sweeping third movement, which seems like a triumphant finale, is surpassed by the fourth movement, which has always been interpreted as a requiem that Tchaikovsky wrote to himself in advance since the Russian composer died only a few days after the premiere of his Symphony No. 6, which received a restrained response.
The second performance of the Pathétique, on the other hand, was a great success, and to this day this frequently performed work is an audience favorite. Tchaikovsky's Pathétique Symphony owes its fame not least to the yearning, melancholy second theme from the first movement (04:32).

Exploring and Eating in New Haven, Connecticut. A Nice City!
I take an Amtrak train from New York City to New Haven, CT. After arriving at New Havenâs beautiful Union Station. I eat amazing New Haven style pizza at Frank Pepeâs, one of the greatest pizza restaurants in the country. Then I explore the Wooster Square neighborhood before making my way downtown. I briefly walk through the campus of Yale University before getting a doughnut and coffee from Donut Crazy. Next, I check into my hotel before exploring Long Wharf Park along New Haven Harbor. For dinner, I eat an excellent hot chicken sandwich from Haven Hot Chicken.

I have breakfast and then check out of my hotel before heading to downtown New Haven, CT. Most of my day is spent exploring the beautiful campus of Yale University. I walk through the historic Grove Street Cemetery and then head to Louisâ Lunch, which lays claim to having invented the hamburger. Next, I walk around Yale a bit more before getting coffee from Blue State Coffee. A Weekend in New Haven, CT | eating a lot of pizza đ, Italian food, and hotel time with the pup
A couple of weeks ago, we took the Metro-North railroad to New Haven! The journey was about two hours from NYC. Since the train is dog-friendly, we took Pika with us and made it a fun little weekend getaway. New Haven is known for amazing pizza (Naples-style), Italian food, and of course, Yale University! Being that the mascot for Yale is the English Bulldog, Pika felt right at home đ and predictably received way too much attention...
We booked a hotel in the downtown area and loved it! It's in a great location, is super dog-friendly, and has a cute cafe and hip cocktail bar. We didn't have a car with us, but felt that the location of this hotel made it easy to walk around and see plenty of things :)

New Haven, Connecticut is a horrible place to live. Let us tell you why..
New Haven is a coastal city on Long Island Sound, in Connecticut. Itâs home to the Ivy League Yale University, founded in 1701. The institutionâs museums include the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, the Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art. Grove Street Cemetery, dating from the late 18th century, has a 19th-century Egyptian Revival gateway. The New Haven Museum covers local history.Â

These lists are not intended to be used for making life changing decisions. They are just another look at the city. I present both good and bad points of view on this channel. I donât just make videos that are negative. There are positive videos on the channel too, check them out. They are made from statistical sources made available by government agencies as well as first hand resident experiences. If you are happy living here, I am happy for you. From Wikipedia:
New Haven is a city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is located on New Haven Harbor on the northern shore of Long Island Sound in New Haven County, Connecticut and is part of the New York City metropolitan area. With a population of 134,023 as determined by the 2020 U.S. census, New Haven is the third largest city in Connecticut after Bridgeport and Stamford and the principal municipality of Greater New Haven, which had a total 2020 population of 864,835.
New Haven was one of the first planned cities in the U.S. A year after its founding by English Puritans in 1638, eight streets were laid out in a four-by-four grid, creating the "Nine Square Plan". The central common block is the New Haven Green, a 16-acre (6 ha) square at the center of Downtown New Haven. The Green is now a National Historic Landmark, and the "Nine Square Plan" is recognized by the American Planning Association as a National Planning Landmark.
New Haven is the home of Yale University, New Haven's biggest taxpayer and employer, and an integral part of the city's economy. Health care, professional and financial services and retail trade also contribute to the city's economic activity.
The city served as co-capital of Connecticut from 1701 until 1873, when sole governance was transferred to the more centrally located city of Hartford. New Haven has since billed itself as the "Cultural Capital of Connecticut" for its supply of established theaters, museums, and music venues. New Haven had the first public tree planting program in America, producing a canopy of mature trees (including some large elms) that gave the city the nickname "The Elm City".
