The National Assembly (French Revolution: Part 3)
http://www.tomrichey.net/euro
Part Three of my French Revolution series picks up after the demise of the Estates General with the formation of the National Assembly. After Louis XVI locked them out of their meeting room, the members of the National Assembly swore in the Tennis Court Oath that they would not adjourn until they had written a constitution for France. Louis allowed the National Assembly to keep meeting, but brought troops to Versailles just in case he felt the need to disperse the meeting by force at a later date.
The presence of troops at Versailles resulted in unrest in Paris, which led to the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. There was also unrest in the countryside, where a grain shortage led to peasant revolts known as the Great Fear. In response to the Gre...

The French Revolution: Crash Course World History #29
In which John Green examines the French Revolution, and gets into how and why it differed from the American Revolution. Was it the serial authoritarian regimes? The guillotine? The Reign of Terror? All of this and more contributed to the French Revolution not being quite as revolutionary as it could have been. France endured multiple constitutions, the heads of heads of state literally rolled, and then they ended up with a megalomaniacal little emperor by the name of Napoleon. But how did all of this change the world, and how did it lead to other, more successful revolutions around the world? Watch this video and find out. Spoiler alert: Marie Antoinette never said, "Let them eat cake." Sorry.

National Assembly (French Revolution)
During the French Revolution, the National Assembly, which existed from June 13, 1789 to July 9, 1789, was a revolutionary assembly formed by the representatives of the Third Estate of the Estates-General; thereafter it was known as the National Constituent Assembly, though popularly the shorter form persisted.

The French Revolution: Crash Course European History #21
In 1789, the French Monarchy's habit of supporting democratic popular revolutions in North America backfired. Today, we're talking about the French Revolution. Across the world, people were rising up to throw off monarchies, and Louis didn't see the writing on the wall until it was too late. Today we'll talk about how the French Revolution unfolded, and what (if anything) was really accomplished. You'll learn about stuff like the National Assembly, the Tennis Court Oath, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, the guillotine, Robespierre, and a bunch of other kind of unbelievable details.

In response to the Great Fear, the National Assembly passed the Decrees of August 4th, which eliminated "feudalism," or the privileges given to the nobility under the Old Regime.
This lecture was designed primarily for students preparing for exams in AP European History and Western Civilization, but is appropriate for high school and college World History students and for lifelong learners, as well.
