Momus (/ˈmoʊməs/; Greek: ΜῶμοςMomos) was in Greek mythology the personification of satire and mockery, two stories about whom figure among Aesop’s Fables. During the Renaissance, several literary works used him as a mouthpiece for their criticism of tyranny, while others later made him a critic of contemporary society. Onstage he finally became the figure of harmless fun.
In classical literature
As a sharp-tongued spirit of unfair criticism, Momus was eventually expelled from the company of the gods on Mount Olympus. His name is related to μομφή, meaning 'blame', 'reproach', or 'disgrace'.Hesiod said that Momus was a son of Night (Nyx), “though she lay with none”, and the twin of the misery goddess Oizys. In the 8th century BCE epic Cypria, Momus was credited with stirring up the Trojan War in order to reduce the human population.Sophocles wrote a later satyr play called Momos, now almost entirely lost, which may have derived from this.
Two of Aesop's fables feature the god. The most widely reported of these in Classical times is numbered 100 in the Perry Index. There Momus is asked to judge the handiwork of three gods (who vary depending on the version): a man, a house and a bull. He found all at fault: the man because his heart was not on view to judge his thoughts; the house because it had no wheels so as to avoid troublesome neighbours; and the bull because it did not have eyes in its horns to guide it when charging. Because of it, Plutarch and Aristotle criticized Aesop’s story-telling as deficient in understanding, while Lucian insisted that anyone with sense was able to sound out a man’s thoughts.
Nicholas Currie (born 11 February 1960), more popularly known under the artist nameMomus (after the Greek god of mockery), is a Scottish songwriter, author, blogger and former journalist for Wired.
For nearly thirty years he has been releasing, to marginal commercial and critical success, albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes seemingly random use of decontextualized pieces of continental (mostly French) philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness." He is fascinated by identity, Japan, Rome, the avant-garde, time travel and sex.
Career
Musical
Momus began by recording post-punk material with ex-members of Josef K in a group called The Happy Family in the early 1980s and was associated with the musicians around Postcard Records (although he never recorded for that label). His debut solo album Circus Maximus (1986, él records) explored biblical themes in dark, almost Gothic acoustic style. His debt to the influence of Gallic pop was clear from a subsequent, sardonically self-referencing cover of Jacques Brel's "Jacky" and portraits of himself in the style of early 1960s Serge Gainsbourg.
College student James (Andrews) arrives from New Orleans at a desert ranch owned by his father, Hezekiah (Sandeen) to help out. Soon after arriving, James is hit on by Hezekiah's wife, Cheryl (Carey), and starts having nightmares. James and Cheryl are caught by Hezekiah having sex, Cheryl and Hezekiah have a fight, then she leaves the ranch that night.
Hezekiah drives into town and picks up another woman, Alisha (Sally Jean), who also quickly falls for James then disappears. Cheryl staggers into Hezekiah's "studio" (an art workshop where he makes female body sculptures out of meat), and dies in front of James. He takes her into the house, where he finds his father crying over Alisha's dead body.
James calls a care facility because he thinks his dad has gone crazy. They send out a nurse, Patty (Clarke), who handcuffs Hezekiah to his bed so that the next time somebody is killed, he can be eliminated as a suspect. In the few days of waiting for the next victim to show up, Patty and James decide to while away the time by having sex.
Perversion is a type of human behavior that deviates from that which is understood to be orthodox or normal. Although the term perversion can refer to a variety of forms of deviation, it is most often used to describe sexual behaviors that are considered particularly abnormal, repulsive or obsessive. Perversion differs from deviant behavior, in that the latter covers areas of behavior (such as petty crime) for which perversion would be too strong a term. It is often considered derogatory, and, in psychological literature, the term paraphilia has been used as a replacement, though this term is controversial, and deviation is sometimes used in its place.
History of concept
One view is that the concept of perversion is subjective, and its application varies depending on the individual. Another view considers that perversion is a degradation of an objectively true morality. Originating in the 1660s a pervert was originally defined as "one who has forsaken a doctrine or system regarded as true, apostate." The sense of a pervert as a sexual term was derived in 1896, and applied originally to variants of sexualities or sexual behavior believed harmful by the individual or group using the term.
In fiction and folklore, a doppelgänger or doppelga(e)nger (/ˈdɒpᵊlˌɡɛŋə/ or /-ˌɡæŋə/; German:[ˈdɔpəlˌɡɛŋɐ], literally "double-goer") is a look-alike or double of a living person, sometimes portrayed as a paranormal phenomenon, and in some traditions as a harbinger of bad luck. In other traditions and stories, they recognize your 'double-goer' as an evil twin.
The word doppelgänger is often used in a more general sense to describe any person who physically or behaviorally resembles another person.
Spelling
The word doppelgänger is a loanword from German Doppelgänger, consisting of the two substantives Doppel (double) Gänger (walker or goer). The singular and plural form are the same in German, but English usually prefers the plural "doppelgängers." It was first used by Jean Paul in the novel Siebenkäs (1796), and his newly coined word is explained by a footnote.
As is true for all other common nouns in German, the word is written with an initial capital letter. In English, the word is conventionally uncapitalized (doppelgänger). It is also common to drop the diacriticumlaut, writing "doppelganger."
Doppelganger (also known as Doppelganger: The Evil Within) is a 1993 American supernatural thriller film starring Drew Barrymore.
Plot
The story follows Holly Gooding (Barrymore), who moves from New York City to Los Angeles after being implicated in a murder. She is followed by what is apparently her evil twin. While in Los Angeles, she finds a room for rent by a writer and the two begin a love affair. After some strange occurrences, it becomes less and less clear whether the woman is in fact Holly or her Doppelgänger. She finds a roommate to share an apartment, and befriends him.
Patrick (the writer) soon starts to realize something is odd about Holly. As he spends more and more time with her, things heat up and he falls for her. Not knowing that she is as crazy as her brother Fred, who is in a psychiatric hospital after killing his own father. And when Patrick finds out that Holly's mother was murdered and she was the prime suspect, he starts doubting her sanity. But by that time he is too attached to her and does not want her going to jail. So when her brother Fred is attacked and she once more is a suspect he decides he is going to get to the bottom of it no matter what.
Doppelgänger is the fourth studio album by The Grid. It was released in March 2008, after a break of more than ten years. Guest artists include Robert Fripp on "Mighty Heroik" and Chris Braide on "Closer", "Be Here With You", "Fools Rush In" and "Feed Your Mind".

I like you, and I'd like you to like me to like you
But I don't need you
Don't need you to want me to like you
Because if you didn't like me
I would still like you, you see
La la la
La la la
I lick you, I like you to like me to lick you
But I don't need you
Don't need you to like me to lick you
If your pleasure turned into pain
I would still lick for my personal gain
La la la
La la la
I fuck you, and I love you to love me to fuck you
But I don't fucking need you
Don't need you to need me to fuck you
If you need me to need you to fuck
That fucks everything up
La la la
La la la
I want you, and I want you to want me to want you
But I don't need you
Don't need you to need me to need you
That's just me
So take me or leave me
But please don't need me
Don't need me to need you to need me
Cos we're here one minute, the next we're dead
So love me and leave me
But try not to need me
Enough said
I want you, but I don't need you
La la la
La la la
I love you, and I love how you love how I love you
But I don't need you
Don't need you to love me to love you
If your love changed into hate
Would my love have been a mistake?
La la la
La la la
So I'm gonna leave you, and I'd like you to leave me to leave you
But lover believe me, it isn't because I don't need you
(you know I don't need you)
All I wanted was to be wanted
But you're drowning me deep in your need to be needed
La la la
La la la la la la la la la
I want you, and I want you to want me to want you
But I don't need you
Don't need you to need me to need you
That's just me
So take me or leave me
But please don't need me
Don't need me to need you to need me
Cos we're here one minute, the next we're dead
So love me and leave me
But try not to need me
Enough said
I want you, but I don't need you.

MOMUS - Sadness Of Things
Nicholas Currie (born 11 February 1960 in Paisley, Scotland), more popularly known under the artist name Momus (after the Greek god of mockery), is a songwriter, blogger and former journalist for Wired. Many of his songs are literary and could be classified as postmodern.[citation needed]

This video is from Momus: Man Of Letters DVD.
The first ever DVD to feature one the true enigmatic figures of alternative music's last twenty years, Momus.
Throughout his recording career for Cherry Red Records and Creation Records, now stretching over twenty years, Momus has always excited and confounded in equal measure -- his work always contains something different and challenging, and "Man Of Letters" is no exception.
"Man Of Letters" was produced by Finnish director Hannu Puttonen (who has also worked with Billy Bragg and Bill Drummond), and has been described as "not so much a documentary, but a stream of consciousness, visualizations of songs, moral discussions by Momus and companions...of whom some have a high profile in British pop culture..."
The guest appearances referred to in that description include Jarvis Cocker, Saint Etienne singer Sarah Cracknell, Ed Ball and Simon Turner.
The "Man Of Letters" DVD contains the full length version of the programme, with nearly twenty minutes of unseen footage from the original video release.

There's a guy running around town Tearing all our dreams down He's swearing up a storm that's watering our doubts Some guy, running around town With his face locked in a frown Seems hauntingly familiar to me now. ‘Cause he looks a lot like me He looks a lot like me A lot like me I'm sure he does. And he looks a lot like me He looks a lot like me. A lot like me but he's not me. He claims to be I Baby that's a big lie. ‘Cause I've been right by your side Since he arrived Must be some kind of illusion I swear That bastard disappears into the air. CHORUS He may have broke your heart He may have made you cry But rest assured my dear That it was he not I That made you suffer this way. I didn't mean to yell at you I didn't mean to be so cruel I really didn't mean to be A split personality But now I think he's gone away And I'm hoping you will stay I don't think we'll meet again ‘till he's had another bad day I've had another bad day We've had another bad day. A lot like me but he's not me. He looks a lot like me He looks a lot like me A lot like me but he's not me. Not like me. Not like me.
