THE BEST PLAYGROUND IN AMERICA - City Museum in St. Louis, Missouri
My Camera: https://amzn.to/3tbC8hO
If Willy Wonka had met Walt Disney they might have created the City Museum. http://www.citymuseum.org/
Honestly, this video doesn't do justice to the City Museum. In fact, I was having so much fun that my camera was an afterthought for most of the day. Besides, there's so much climbing, sliding, and "playing" (for kids and adults) on all kinds of unique structures that carrying a camera/phone could be hazardous for the device. This was a great way to spend the second-last day of our 15 day road trip across the United States, and was definitely the highlight of St. Louis.

PLAY STREET MUSEUM OVERVIEW
Play Street Museum is an interactive children’s museum purposefully designed to encourage a young child’s sense of independence, exploration, and creativity. By narrowing the focus of our museums to the interests and imaginations of children eight and under, young explorers will discover educational exhibits and activities in a world specifically crafted just for them. Because of our deliberate and manageable scale, children are able to self navigate throughout the museum to engage deeply in activities that they are most interested and passionate about. This freedom reinforces independence in the child and also has the benefit of creating a more relaxed and accommodating museum experience for the caregiver.

City Museum – St Louis
I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, I dreaded the word museum. In my mind, it meant stuffed dead animals, giant canvases with weird pictures, and carved sculptures of naked dudes. My parents loved it and the potential firestorm of brilliance it was intended to spark in my young mind. To me, it was all one big snooze fest until I was an adult. If I’m being transparent, I still get drowsy at some museums.
The only way you dragged me into something labeled museum was if it involved sports.
Keep all this in mind when we tell you, the City Museum in St Louis is NOTHING like any museum we have ever visited.
History
What is today City Museum, was the vision of artist Bob Cassilly. Bob and his former wife, Gail, purchased the property in 1993 when it was an abandoned shoe warehouse. The transformative construction was shrouded in secrecy for years until visitors were finally allowed to see the progress on New Years Eve of 1996.
It’s a museum whose exhibits consist mostly of repurposed architectural and industrial objects in a way the sparks the imagination in an immersive and playful way. Ask Patrick who hoisted his 6 foot 3 inch frame through a tiny steel cage tube to explore remnants of an old airplane dangling multiple stories off the ground. It’s something else.
Our Trip
From the moment we approached the building our kids were shrieking with excitement. Around every turn and up every flight of stairs was another surprise.
The 1st Floor includes a life-size Bowhead Whale, tunnels and a hollowed out tree house. The floor is covered with the largest continuous mosaic in the US.
The most popular attraction, and our favorite was the enchanted caves and shafts that run through the center of the museum to the 10th floor. The caves also include a 1924 Wurlitzer Pipe Organ from New York City that can be played throughout the day. Oh, and don’t forget the 10 story slide that my kids made me try.
The 3rd floor has a number of attractions, but our kids were obsessed with the collection of skateboard ramps and ropes to swing from. We stopped to eat at Beatnik Bob’s before heading to Toddler town.
Outside was the icing on the cake. As I mentioned at the beginning, we had a blast at MonstroCity which features two aircraft fuselages suspended in air, four-foot wide slinkies to be crawled through and a number of slides.
The most fabulous part of all? There are no maps! The goal is to get lost in the museum, as well as your imagination…
So, we won’t share everything. Just consider this a preview of things to come when you go visit!

The Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters Square
On our 2nd day in Rome, the 1st official itinerary day on our tour, we visited the Vatican Museum in Vatican City!
The crowds in this area are absolutely incredible, the Vatican museum is visited by over 6 million people every year! It is highly advised that tickets to the museum are purchased in advance otherwise you will be waiting in a very long line! If you google Vatican Museum tickets, many websites will come up before the official Vatican site.- so just be aware you may be purchase tickets for some sort of guided tour, you can tour the Vatican on your own without a guide. Tickets can be purchased here from the official Vatican website: https://tickets.museivaticani.va/home/calendar/visit/Biglietti-Musei
Also, a free audio tour guide is available at Ricksteves.com (My favorite Europe travel guide) https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/audio/audio-tours/italy#romeaudiotour - You can download the audio tour and listen while you walk through.
