To create the film, director Whedon established the production studio Bellwether Pictures. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and had its North American theatrical release on June 21, 2013.
Plot
The plot of the film is largely unchanged from that of Shakespeare's original play. Differences include the modern-day setting, switching Conrade's gender, eliminating several minor roles and consolidating others into Leonato's aide, and expanding Ursula's role by giving her a number of Margaret's scenes. In addition, the film attempts to add background to the relationship between Beatrice and Benedick by showing, in an opening scene, a morning after they apparently slept together. Benedick steals away quietly while Beatrice pretends to be asleep.
Much Ado About Nothing is a comedic play by William Shakespeare thought to have been written in 1598 and 1599, as Shakespeare was approaching the middle of his career. The play was included in the First Folio, published in 1623. Much Ado About Nothing is generally considered one of Shakespeare's best comedies, because it combines elements of robust hilarity with more serious meditations on honour, shame, and court politics.
By means of "noting" (which, in Shakespeare's day, sounded the same as "nothing," and which is gossip, rumour, and overhearing), Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejecting Hero at the altar on the erroneous belief that she has been unfaithful. At the end, Benedick and Beatrice join forces to set things right, and the others join in a dance celebrating the marriages of the two couples.
Characters
Benedick, A lord and soldier from Padua; companion of Don Pedro
Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (30 September 1852– 29 March 1924) was an Irish composer, music teacher, and conductor. Born to a well-off and highly musical family in Dublin, Stanford was educated at the University of Cambridge before studying music in Leipzig and Berlin. He was instrumental in raising the status of the Cambridge University Musical Society, attracting international stars to perform with it.
While still an undergraduate, Stanford was appointed organist of Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1882, aged 29, he was one of the founding professors of the Royal College of Music, where he taught composition for the rest of his life. From 1887 he was also Professor of Music at Cambridge. As a teacher, Stanford was sceptical about modernism, and based his instruction chiefly on classical principles as exemplified in the music of Brahms. Among his pupils were rising composers whose fame went on to surpass his own, such as Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams. As a conductor, Stanford held posts with the Bach Choir and the Leeds triennial music festival.

Set in an Italian villa, Much Ado About Nothing follows Claudio’s courtship of the governor’s daughter, Hero, and their wedding plans.
Meanwhile, ostensible rivals and bantering partners Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into admitting their feelings for each other by their impish compatriots. And Claudio is deceived into believing that his paramour Hero has been unfaithful to him.
The two couples eventually come to an understanding, but in the interim a variety of comical deceits and hilarious misunderstandings ensue.
William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing epitomizes the playwright's sublime talent for situational comedy. Written in 1598-99, this comedy is full to the brim with romantic double-crossing and barbed repartee. As such, it remains among his best-loved plays.
The short story contains many powerful themes, such as language, which is used to maintain social roles; trickery, which is used to make Beatrice and Benedick fall in love and to try and block Hero’s marriage; and honor, which is used to represent Hero’s reputation and manhood to stand up for those wronged.
