Courses are offered in the day, evening, on weekends, and online.
A community college is a type of educational institution. The term can have different meanings in different countries.
Australia
In Australia, the term community college is not used. Analogous to community colleges are colleges or institutes of Technical and Further Education (TAFEs); institutions mostly regulated at state and territory level. There are also an increasing number of private providers of varying social esteem; often these are colloquially called "colleges".
TAFEs and other providers carry on the tradition of adult education, which was established in Australia around mid 19th century when evening classes were held to help adults enhance their numeracy and literacy skills. The majority of Australian universities can also be traced back to such forerunners, although obtaining a university charter has always changed their nature. In TAFEs and colleges today, courses are designed for personal development of an individual and/or for employment outcomes. Educational programs cover a variety of topics such as arts, languages, business and lifestyle; and are usually timetabled to be conducted in the evenings or weekends to accommodate people working full-time. Funding for colleges may come from government grants and course fees; and many are not-for-profit organisations. There are located in metropolitan, regional and rural locations of Australia.
The community college (Malay:Kolej Komuniti) system in Malaysia provides a wide range of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) courses. Disciplines covered include accounting, architecture, construction, engineering, draughting, entrepreneurship, hospitality, personal services, multimedia, and visual arts.
Community colleges in Malaysia are administered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) via the Jabatan Pengajian Kolej Komuniti (English: Department of Community College Education).
Community college offering four type of programmes:
Sijil Kolej Komuniti (English: Community College Certificate)
Sijil Kemahiran Khas (masalah pembelajaran) (English: Special Skills Certificate (Learning Disabilities/ Difficulties))
Diploma secara Pembelajaran Berasaskan Kerja (English: Work Based Learning Diploma)
Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (Kursus pendek) (English: Lifelong Learning (Short Courses))
Background
In 2000, the Government approved a proposal by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to establish a network of educational institutions whereby vocational and technical skills training could be provided at all levels for school leavers before they entered the workforce. The community colleges also provide an infrastructure for rural communities to gain skills training through short courses as well as providing access to a post-secondary education. This institutions became known as community colleges.
Like all Orange Line stations, Community College is fully wheelchair accessible.
Station layout
Location and connections
Community College station is one of the few stops on the Orange Line without at least one MBTA bus connection. The station was built without a busway, as much of the surrounding area has a relatively low demand for bus service. The area north and west of the station is covered by the MBTA Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility, an abandoned freight yard, and the Inner Belt industrial park, while the area south of the station is occupied by major highway ramps connecting the I-93 elevated highway with the Tobin Bridge and Route 1.
A band of old growth forest along rock ledges 500 feet (150m) below the summit supports trees from 150 to 370 years old. Covering 220 acres (89ha), it is the largest known old growth forest east of the Connecticut River in Massachusetts.
Geography
Wachusett Mountain is a glaciatedmonadnock: a single mountain on a relatively flat landscape. Glacial activity that shaped the mountain can be seen at Balance Rock on the northeast side of the mountain: two large boulders were stacked one on top of each other by moving glaciers thousands of years ago.
Wachusett Mountain appeals mostly to skiers from Boston and Worcester, as it provides a shuttle service to and from a major MBTA commuter stop in nearby Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Wachusett Mountain has 100% snow-making capacity. Additionally, Wachusett Mountain has night-skiing on most of its trails.
History
The first ski trails were cut into Mount Wachusett by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1934 and 1937. Those trails were called Pine Hill Trail and Balance Rock. Today skiers can still ski down the upper and lower half of Balance rock. The middle section closed in the 1980s. During World War II, the 10th Mountain Division trained at Wachusett. There is now a plaque at the summit commemorating this. The first lifts installed were a T-bar in 1960 (the Oxbow T-Bar) and in 1962 (the West T-Bar). At the time, the West T-Bar was the longest T-bar in New England, measuring a total of 3,800 feet (1,160m).

Mount Wachusett Community College and Renewable Energy
Transcript:
Our wind turbines and solar panel array play an important role at the Mount. We produce all of our own power for the College using renewable sources of energy. But our turbines and solar panels do more than just reduce our carbon footprint. By having this technology here on campus, we keep our classroom grounded in real-world problem solving—two essential parts of the Mount experience.

Joshua’s Story | Getting a Job Right After Graduation from Mount Wachusett Community College
Joshua met Reed Hillman, former Commander of the State Police, when he was a student in Hillman’s classroom at Mount Wachusett Community College where Hillman is the chair of the Criminal Justice Department. Thanks to the Mount’s small class size, Joshua gained real-world knowledge about law enforcement and got to know Hillman. Immediately after graduating, Joshua was able to use his associate degree in law enforcement to land a job as a Corrections Officer.
Transcript:
Compared to a private school, I felt I had more of a connection at the Mount. I was closer to the professors, smaller class sizes, it’s kind of like a hidden gem. LANCE: My name is Lance Mitchell and I’m the Service Manager here at Mercedes Benz of Shrewsbury
LANCE: Jason has been on board for about six months and we’re very impressed with him as a human being, a citizen, as well as an employee, just a great young man. His mentor ... after a couple of weeks, said I’ve already hired him to come on full-time after he graduates in May.
JASON: Working with the people from Wagner, it’s been really, really good … They have no problem with me leaving early or coming in late because I have class, so it’s five stars, 10 out of 10 for everyone here because they make me love this job, or internship
ERIC: One of the things about Jason that I think has made him as successful as he is is desire to learn new information ... He looks deeper than just the repair, he looks into the cause, and that’s what makes a great tech.
JASON: I talk to the other technicians here, and how they went to a bunch of a lot bigger colleges, and that it was more of kind of an assembly line feeling versus MWCC’s course where I feel like that you have fellow classmates help you, you have the teacher help you, and the experiences you get from just having that smaller group or smaller one-on-one feel, I feel like it definitely helps because you learn a lot more
JASON: I think that the program there at MWCC is one of the best in terms of the students’ needs because without all of the people who have helped me along the way at MWCC, I probably would never be where I would be today.

The Criminal Justice faculty at the Mount does an amazing job, they have an amazing group of people working with them. There’s Reed Hillman, and he had a great career with the State Police, and has been able to deliver a lot of his knowledge to students, myself included. He helped me find my current job, and without him I probably wouldn’t have found it in the first place, he’s the one who sent me the email.
Even in my own personal experience and professional life, things that I’ve learned in the classroom from different professors, I’ve been able to apply it in my current job.
After I graduated, I immediately joined the workforce. I got a job as a Corrections Officer which is totally perfect for what I went to school for. My education at the Mount definitely helped, and the connections that I made there also helped me get my job. I would advise anyone who’s considering or debating taking Criminal Justice courses at the Mount to absolutely go for it. I feel the most rewarding career out there, working for law enforcement, is not an easy job, but at the end of the day, I feel that I’m helping people
