The community was founded in 1805 by Joseph Walker, Thomas B. Patterson and Benjamin Butler.
In 1833, Mount Vernon contained a court house, market house, and jail, three churches, thirteen dry goods stores, two groceries, two tanneries, two flouring mills, one carding machine and oil mill, two saw mills, two tinners' shops, five shoemakers' shops, one shoe store, one book store, one drug store, two printing offices, four taverns, 220 dwelling houses, and about 1200 inhabitants.
By 1840, 2,363 people lived in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon was a stop along the Cleveland, Akron and Columbus Railway (Later Pennsylvania, Penn-Central and Conrail) between Cleveland, Orrville and Columbus, Ohio. It was also a stop along the Sandusky, Mansfield and Newark Railroad (Later Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Chessie System and Ohio Central). It is presently at the end of the line from Newark of the Ohio Central Railroad.
The mansion is built of wood in a loose Palladian style, and was constructed by George Washington in stages between 1758 and 1778. It occupies the site of an earlier, smaller house built by George Washington's father Augustine, some time between 1726 and 1735. It remained Washington's country home for the rest of his life. Following his death in 1799, under the ownership of several successive generations of the family, the estate progressively declined as revenues were insufficient to maintain it adequately. In 1858, the house's historical importance was recognized and it was saved from ruin by The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association; this philanthropic organization acquired it together with part of the Washington property estate. Escaping the damage suffered by many plantation houses during the American Civil War, Mount Vernon was restored.
Mount Vernon Proprietors was a real estate development syndicate operating in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded at the end of the 18th century, it developed land on the south slope of Beacon Hill into a desirable residential neighborhood.
History
In 1795 a syndicate formed by Harrison Gray Otis sought to speculate on land development around the newly formed government buildings on Boston's Beacon Hill. The Mount Vernon Proprietors, as the group was named, included founders Otis, Jonathan Mason, Joseph Woodward and Charles Ward Apthorp. Membership in the Proprietors changed frequently but partners included Charles Bulfinch, Hepzibah Swan, Henry Jackson, Dr. Benjamin Joy, William Scollay.
As probably the first organized real estate syndicate in Colonial America, the Proprietors' contribution to real estate development formulated the model by which much of America was built.
The Proprietors purchased an 18.5-acre (75,000m2) cow pasture for the total sum of $18,450 from the esteemed painter John Singleton Copley who was living in England at the time. The Copley tract comprised an area of Beacon Hill now bound by Beacon Street, Walnut Street and Mount Vernon Street and the area called Louisburg Square. After agreeing to the sale, Copley reconsidered the offer and tried unsuccessfully for ten years to break the sale contract.
In July 2012, Stalley announced he had begun recording his debut album, saying: "We're workin' on an album right now. I'm in the studio. I just got in there about a week ago, so it's a whole big process. Right now, I'm thinking maybe top of the year would be the album. I definitely just take [Rick Ross and Wale's] energy, and I definitely watch their energy and watch how they do things. I'm very observant of how they set up their albums and set up their singles and things like that, being that it's all new to me. That's great company to keep and great people to watch."
On August 22, 2014, he announced the album would be titled Ohio in a vlog, saying: "The sound of my current music is intelligent truck music. It’s a sound that’s built for the cars. But you can also enjoy it in your headphones, your computer or however you want to listen to it. Me, growing up, I rode around listening to music. It was kind of like the soundtrack my days or wherever I was going."
The singer's girlfriend leaves him after meeting another man at the bank and moves with him to Cleveland. The singer implores her to come back home to him and the things she left behind in Texas.
There is an additional song (track 43) on the CD called "Ohio (Reprise)". The song contains numerous other references to people and things associated with Texas that "want her back". These include:
