Monument, released in 1983, is a live album by the British band Ultravox. It is the soundtrack to the live video of the same name, recorded at the London Hammersmith Odeon during the band's 1982 "Monument" tour. The album peaked at no.9 on the UK album chart and was certified Gold by the BPI in January 1984 for 100,000 copies sold.
The opening title track is not live and is identical to the version found on the B-side of the Hymn single.
The album was re-issued on CD in 1999, and was expanded, containing all of the songs from the video (but still not the entire concert).
Monument was released again in 2009, as a CD/DVD package together.
! is an album by The Dismemberment Plan. It was released on October 2, 1995, on DeSoto Records. The band's original drummer, Steve Cummings, played on this album but left shortly after its release.

Personnel
The following people were involved in the making of !:
Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 331⁄3rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.
An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.
Grafotechna (Grafotechna n. p., Závod 5, Výroba písma, mosazných linek a matric) was a Czechoslovakian type foundry, created in 1951. It ceased to exist after 1990. It was the only manufacturer of metal types in the former Czechoslovakia.
Among other things, it manufactured fonts designed by Czech type designers Oldřich Menhart and Josef Týfa.
Monument is a science fiction novel written by Lloyd Biggle, Jr. and published in 1974. The subject of destructive tourism is serious, but as usual with Biggle, the treatment is in a lighter vein, and at times frankly humorous.
Monument was based on a short story (novelette) of the same name published in Analog magazine in 1961. The novel was optioned in 1979 and was to be the premiere film of Spacefilms, but never materialized. The film was co-written by Biggle and Spacefilms founder John Flory. The novel is dedicated "To John, Bee and Jack Flory, who had a vision."
Plot summary
A nondescript spacer with little education named Cerne Obrien finds a cache of extremely valuable "retron crystals", but crashes on an idyllic planet before he can sell them. The planet has a single continent, inhabited by humans with a Polynesian culture. The natives live contented lives, hunting a horrific sea-creature called the koluf, which constitutes almost their entire diet. Obrien uses his surviving technology to rid the area of several pests, and eventually marries. The natives come to call him the "Langri", a title of deep respect.

Ultravox - "Monument" Slight Modification Mix.
NON SUPPORTER OF THE ULTRAVOX UNOFFICIAL REGIME!
Originally released as the b side to the "Hymn" single in late 1982 the track was subsequently used as the opener to their world tour promoting their "Quartet" album which bridged 1982/83.
A video compilation and a mini album featuring five live tracks from the tour was released in October 1983 entitled "Monument the Soundtrack" on which "Monument" was the opening song (this was the same version which was used on the b side of the Hymn single).
The song title "Monument" was in reference to the design of the stage set used on most dates of the tour (some venues were too small to accommodate the rather large construction).

Ultravox Quartet Full Album
Quartet is the third Ultravox album with Midge Ure as front man.The album spawned four hit singles and was promoted by Ultravox's "Monument Tour", a concert from which was recorded and released as an album and video a year later in 1983.
It has been remastered and re-released twice with the addition of several tracks, mainly b-sides and live tracks. I have included none of these but rather the addition of two extended versions which I felt kept the mood of the album better.

However the DVD still only included the original five live tracks plus "Monument" overdubbed with narration from Sir George Martin and Peter Saville. Here, though, are twelve live tracks all officially recorded during the tour. There are some variations in sound quality depending on the source material.
My apologies for the strange spoken passages during the songs, but I'm sick of a certain individual taking my work for his channel then taking all the credit for it (LH). He never did have any original ideas and never will. Just leaches off other people and claims the glory.
"Reap The Wild Wind" - Hammersmith Odeon December 2nd 1982.
This is the full unedited recording of "Reap The Wild Wind" from the first night of their residency at the Hammersmith Odeon. There appears to be a problem with the bass guitar throughout the song. At times out of sync with the rest of the band. There are a couple of occasions where he stops playing altogether and at one point changes his playing style which doesn't fit the song at all. Monitor problems? I've included this particular version here as a little treat as some won't have heard it before.
"New Europeans" - Hammermith Odeon December 5th 1982.
"We Stand Alone" - Hammermith Odeon December 5th 1982"
"I Remember (Death In The Afternoon)" - Hammermith Odeon December 5th 1982.
These three songs were omitted from the original release. As of yet they haven't been included in any official "Monument" package. Nonetheless they are great recordings and shouldn't be overlooked.
"Visions In Blue" - Hammermith Odeon December 4th 1982.
This wasn't included on the original release but was added to the 1996 CD reissue and was included on the 2009 "Definitive Edition" CD/DVD package (audio only).
"The Voice" - Hammermith Odeon December 4th 1982.
"Vienna" - Hammermith Odeon December 4th 1982.
Both of these were included on the original 1983 release but were spread over side 1 and side 2. They were rejoined together on the 1996 CD reissue but with the crowd noise between the tracks and after "Vienna" edited down. Here the full crowd noise between the tracks and after "Vienna" is included with Midge thanking the audience twice after the latter track.
"All Stood Still" - Dortmund Westfalenhalle May 14th 1983.
The only track here not recorded during their four night residency at the Hammersmith Odeon. The sound quality of this particular song is very good but not on par with the other tracks. It still fits in nicely though and is an excellent performance of the song.
"Passing Strangers" - Hammermith Odeon December 5th 1982?
This wasn't included on the original 1983 release, but a version of "Passing Strangers" was added to the 1996 CD reissue and was included on the 2009 "Definitive Edition" CD/DVD package. Now, I'm not 100% certain that this is the version used on those releases as there are several subtle differences between the two. Can you spot them?
"Mine For Life" - Hammersmith Odeon December 4th 1982.
Included on the original 1983 release and re-segued with "Passing Strangers" on the 1996 CD reissue. Certainly a great powerhouse of a track and would have made an excellent single. The Linn drum track was removed from all previous releases for some reason. Here it has been restored. Also the crowd noise at the end is not cut as short as it was on all official releases.
"Hymn" - Hammermith Odeon December 4th 1982.
An Ultravox live classic. This is a slightly different rougher mix to the one on the official releases although it is the same recording that was used. The bass sustain at the end isn't faded down and rings for a while and the crowd noise isn't edited down.
"The Song (We Go)" - Hammermith Odeon December 5th 1982.
This wasn't included on the original 1983 release or the 1996 CD reissue, but was added to the 2009 "Definitive Edition" as a bonus track. What a way to end a show!
As always I invite you to pop on a good quality pair of headphones and enjoy the stereo soundscape.

The promotional video for the first single from the "Quartet" album ("Reap The Wild Wind") showed a version of the stage backdrop being conceived and constructed by the band on a hillside while wearing military uniform. Differing design hints were also featured on the 7" and 12" singles and in architectural perspective on the album sleeve.
As always I invite you to pop on a good quality pair of headphones and enjoy the stereo soundscape.

It has been mentioned that a certain little Hitler type has been knicking my uploads and putting them on his own channel. Good luck to him and maybe one day he'll actually put some effort in and upload some of his own original content or at least add something to the content already on YouTube prior to him curating it.

Good luck to him and maybe one day he'll actually put some effort in and upload some of his own original content or at least add something to the content already on YouTube prior to him curating it.

NON SUPPORTER OF THE LIGHT FINGERED ULTRAVOX UNOFFICIAL REGIME!
Originally released as a six track mini album in 1983, this featured five live tracks alongside the instrumental opener "Monument" which had initially been released in 1982 as the b side to their single "Hymn".
The album was reissued in 1996 and expanded to contain seven live tracks with the inclusion of "Visions In Blue" and "Passing Strangers". Most recently it was expanded to eight live tracks with the inclusion of "The Song (We Go)" on the 2009 Definitive Edition CD/DVD release.

NON SUPPORTER OF THE ULTRAVOX UNOFFICIAL REGIME!
Ultravox recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon December 4th 1982.
This was the first night of a four date residency for the band who were promoting their recently released 'Quartet' album. Featured here is the complete show from beginning to end with excellent sound quality. Onstage they were assisted by Colin King and Danny Mitchell who were collectively known as Messengers. As Messengers they were also the support band for the tour.
Originally five tracks from these shows were made available on the 'Monument' album and video in 1983. This was expanded to seven tracks in 1999 and eight tracks in 2009 as part of various remastered and 'Definitive Edition' CD packages.
An alternate edited version of 'Reap The Wild Wind' to that used on 'Monument' was used as a bonus track on the 12" single 'Visions in Blue'.
These actual recordings sound much better without the compression added by YouTube. I've uploaded them for entertainment purposes only. Please support the artist by purchasing their music.

In 1976, they changed their name to Ultravox and three albums followed in the next two years – Ultravox!, Ha!-Ha!-Ha! and Systems of Romance – although none broke through to mainstream success ... Ultravox produced five more albums during the 1980s.
