Smith was born on 4 February 1952 in Norwich, England. He attended the City of Norwich School, then a grammar school, on Eaton Road, Norwich. His parents were from working class backgrounds. At a parents evening, his form master told his parents about their son that "people like you don't go to university". The school afterwards suggested finding a low-skilled job for him.
From 1976 to 1978, Smith lectured at Huddersfield Polytechnic. From 1979 to 1992, he lectured at University of East Anglia, becoming Director of the Centre for Public Choice Studies at UEA. He was a professor at the university from 1990 to 1992. From 1992 to 2002, he was Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), as well Professor of International Politics at University of Wales, Aberystwyth and Head of the Department of International Politics.
Steven "Steve" Smith, Jr., CM (born December 24, 1945) is a Canadian actor, writer and comedian. He is best known as the co-creator and star of the sketch comedy show The Red Green Show, for which he portrayed the title character.
Early life
Smith was born in Toronto. Before turning to comedy, he studied engineering at the University of Waterloo and then worked a variety of jobs. In 1979, he began to produce, write, and star in Smith & Smith, a sketch comedy series with a cast consisting of Smith and his wife, Morag Smith. The show was produced for Hamilton, Ontario's CHCH and syndicated to other television stations in Canada.
Career
In 1985, Smith created the family sitcom Me & Max. After the first season the Smiths went back to sketch comedy, creating the series The Comedy Mill, which ran for four years. Smith was a writer on Offside, a sports comedy series for CTV, head writer for Global's Laughing Matters, and the TV pilot of Out of Our Minds with David Steinberg. He wrote three episodes of CBS' Top Cops series.
The Software Engineering 2004 (SE2004) —formerly known as Computing Curriculum Software Engineering (CCSE)— is a document that provides recommendations for undergraduate education in software engineering. SE2004 was initially developed by a steering committee between 2001 and 2004. Its development was sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society. Important components of SE2004 include the Software Engineering Education Knowledge, a list of topics that all graduates should know, as well as a set of guidelines for implementing curricula and a set of proposed courses.
In amateur astronomy, "GoTo" refers to a type of telescope mount and related software which can automatically point a telescope to astronomical objects that the user selects. Both axes of a GoTo mount are motor driven and are controlled by either a microprocessor-based integrated controller or a personal computer, as opposed to the single axis semi-automated tracking of a traditional clock drive mount. This allows the user to command the mount to point the telescope to a right ascension and declination that the user inputs or have the mount itself point the telescope to objects in a pre-programmed data base including ones from the Messier catalogue, the New General Catalogue, and even major solar system bodies (the Sun, Moon, and planets).
Like a standard equatorial mount, equatorial GoTo mounts can track the night sky by driving the right-ascension axis. Since both axes are computer controlled GoTo technology also allows telescope manufacturers to add equatorial tracking to mechanically simpler alt-azimuth telescope mounts.

I was first hired at Facebook in 2018 as a summer software engineering intern. I then completed a second internship in 2019 before starting full time as a software engineer in 2020. In this video, I break down my total compensation through this time, as well as how it increased as I earned salary raises, refresher stock grants, and promotions while working at Facebook.

On 7 December 2005, Mark Zuckerberg joined CS50 for a guest lecture about Facebook and computer science. With Professor Michael D. Smith. Shared with permission.
