Janet Ellen Shamlian (born May 14, 1962) is a national correspondent for NBC News and appears on The Today Show and the NBC Nightly News. She is a contributor to the prime-time news magazine Dateline NBC and to the business network CNBC.
Shamlian began her career at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before joining CBS station KHOU-TV in Houston. She returned to Chicago as a reporter for WBBM-TV. She left WBBM to return to Texas and start a family. In Houston, she worked for KPRC-TV before leaving the station when pregnant with her second child. She subsequently had three more children, all five born within 7 years.
Janet Shamlian, CBS News correspondent, graduated from the School of Journalism in 1984. She reports for CBS This Morning and the CBS Evening News, and previously reported for NBC Nightly News, The Today Show and MSNBC.
As a student, Shamlian reported for KOMU-TV, and served on the Homecoming Steering Committee with fellow MU graduate Sheryl Crow. She has previously returned to campus as the graduation speaker for the School of Journalism's 2016 commencement ceremony, and is a member of the Mizzou Alumni Association.
