Kazuhide Uekusa, Japanese economist, nicknamed Mirrorman after being arrested for an incident involving a hand mirror, an escalator, and a high school girl's skirt
"Mirror Man" was the first track written and recorded by the Human League after they returned from their World Tour, conducted in the wake of the enormous international success of their album Dare. "Mirror Man" was conceived and written as a celebration of Oakey and Wright's love of Motown records. It has been described as electronic northern soul, with Oakey's main verses delivered in deliberate sentences with emphasis on the last word of each sentence. Vocalists Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall feature prominently throughout the song but have no lyrics, providing backing vocals of "oohs" and "ahhs". Recording and production was overseen by Martin Rushent, who had produced the band's album Dare.
"Mirror Man" is a song recorded by British singer and songwriter Ella Henderson for her debut studio album, Chapter One (2014). It was released in the UK on 8 March 2015 via Syco Music as the fourth single off the album. The song was written by Henderson, Al Shuckburgh, and Laura Pergolizzi, and was produced by Shuckburgh under his production moniker Al Shux. "Mirror Man" entered the Official UK Singles Chart at number 96.
Content
"Mirror Man" is a mid-tempo blues and funk song whose lyrics discuss a selfish lover who puts him or herself before anyone else. Henderson revealed to the Official Charts Company that the song was written about "the most self-centred person I’ve ever met," and that she enjoys singing the tune due to its sassy attitude.
Music video
The official music video for "Mirror Man" was directed by Colin Tiley and premiered on 9 March 2015. Henderson has described the aesthetic of the video as "graphic" and "edgy", noting that it shows a different side of herself. The video features a panther, whose shapeshifting is meant to symbolize the vanity of the titular "mirror man", and uses special effects to depict Henderson being consumed by fire, sand, and smoke, amongst other elements.

The source video I used to create this one is here: https://ok.ru/video/5817930811992
That was the best-quality upload of this music video I could find online. I have replaced the audio track with a high-quality one of the single, and this involved speeding up the footage slightly, as it was running a bit slow compared to the HQ audio track I am using. The original music video was given a very strange ending in which the music was faded out quickly before the final chorus. It did not sound or look good, so I decided to feature the full-length track, and to accompany the final chorus, I have put up on screen three pictures of the single as released in the UK. I have also added optional subtitles for the lyrics.
This music video was conceived and directed by Brian Duffy.
This song was written by Philip Oakey, Jo Callis and Ian Burden. This track was produced by Martin Rushent and the Human League, and was released in 1982. According to Wikipedia, this single went to No. 1 in Ireland, and reached No. 2 in their native UK, No. 4 in Australia, No. 7 in Canada, No. 17 in Belgium, No. 19 in South Africa and Sweden, No. 23 in New Zealand, No. 30 in the USA, No. 31 in the Netherlands, No. 49 in Germany, and No. 84 in France.

Another official presentation of these lyrics is to be found in the form of optional subtitles provided with the official upload of this music video on the official Human League YouTube channel. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/MMu1T_Tg5Fw
These two official presentations have one difference; the former has the line "Left behind, oh, long ago" and the latter has this line as "Left behind not long ago". To determine which of these is correct, I have had a look at several videos of live performances of this song, and have concluded that the latter one is the correct one. Here is a link to a live performance in which these words are very clear to hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5i-3txcsvY&t=1m49s
Presented below and as optional subtitles in the video is my own transcript of the lyrics, for which I have used those official presentations as a guide.
LYRICS
"Mirror Man"
- The Human League
(Words and Music by Philip Oakey, Jo Callis and Ian Burden)
(Ooh)
(Ooh)
(Aah)
(Ooh)
(Ooh)
(Aah)
(Ooh)
(Ooh)
The water shines
A pebble skips across the face
A dozen times
Then disappears, not a trace
Left behind
The thrower turns and walks away
A change of mind
Another start, a brand-new day
You know I'll change
If change is what you require
Your every wish
Your every dream, hope, desire
Here comes the mirror man (Ooh)
Says he's a people fan (Ooh)
Here comes the mirror man
And if it seems
I'm not the one you used to know
Our little friendship
Left behind not long ago
Don't feel too hurt
As distance heals the strongest pain
Things are much better now
And just the nagging doubt remains
You know I'll change
If change is what you require
Your every wish
Your every dream, hope, desire
Here comes the mirror man (Ooh)
Says he's a people fan (Ooh)
Here comes the mirror man
(Aah)
Here comes the mirror man (Ooh)
Says he's a people fan (Ooh)
Here comes the mirror man
(Aah)
[Break]
Here comes the mirror man (Ooh)
Says he's a people fan (Ooh)
Here comes the mirror man
(Aah)
(The mirror man, the mirror man)
Here comes the mirror man (Ooh)
Says he's a people fan (Ooh)
Here comes the mirror man
