Miranda July - “All Fours” | The Daily Show
Filmmaker, writer, actor, and artist Miranda July talks to Desi Lydic about how her new novel, “All Fours,” is a coming-of-age story for any woman in her 40s who has “secret desires and anxieties about those desires, and is wondering what’s going on with her body and her marriage, and just her whole self.” They discuss how many of the topics covered in the novel, like perimenopause, traumatic childbirth, and female sexual freedom, often go undiscussed, and July explains the difference between a “driver” and a “parker.” #DailyShow #DesiLydic #MirandaJuly

Miranda July – 'I Began with Performance' | TateShots
Miranda July is best known for her Cannes-award winning career as a filmmaker. She began her career in performance and has continued to create across many mediums, including producing apps. In this film July explains how live performance allowed her to ‘engage in the present moment’ and feel the immediacy of the audience ‘right here, right now’.
Her work continues to challenge and engage the viewer by blurring the line between performance and film – most notably in 2011’s The Future which featured some key scenes originally conceived and staged in her performance work and began with the self-imposed question – how do you turn ‘a performance into a movie?’

Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. A semi-famous artist announces her plan to drive cross-country, from LA to NY. Thirty minutes after leaving her husband and child at home, she spontaneously exits the freeway, beds down in a nondescript motel, and immerses herself in an entirely different journey.
Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman. Once again, July hijacks the familiar and turns it into something new and thrillingly, profoundly alive.
Miranda July is a writer, filmmaker, and artist. Her debut novel, The First Bad Man, was an instant New York Times bestseller, and her collection of stories, No One Belongs Here More Than You, won the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award. Her writing has appeared in The Paris Review, Harper’s, and The New Yorker. July lives in Los Angeles.

From acclaimed writer/director Miranda July comes a profoundly moving and wildly original comedy. Con-artists Theresa (Debra Winger) and Robert (Richard Jenkins) have spent 26 years training their only daughter, Old Dolio (Evan Rachel Wood), to swindle, scam, and steal at every opportunity. During a desperate, hastily conceived heist, they charm a stranger (Gina Rodriguez) into joining their next scam, only to have their entire world turned upside down.
Trailer features the song “Mr. Lonely” performed by Angel Olsen & Emile Mosseri (the film’s composer). Song & soundtrack release coming in September.
