More specifically, the term refers to the economic growth of Seoul, through which the Han River flows, although it is generally used in reference to the country as a whole. Also, the "miracle" generally refers to the period between 1961 and 1996. The phrase comes from the "Miracle on the Rhine", used to refer to the economic rebirth of West Germany after World War II, resulting partially from the Marshall Plan. The "Miracle on the Han" is used to refer to the growth of postwar South Korea into the world's 11th largest economy and a role model for many developing countries in Asia. Seoul's infrastructure was destroyed by the Korean War and millions lived in poverty at the time, with thousands of unemployed people struggling to fulfill basic needs.

Why is South Korea so rich? - South Korea's Economy
#southkorea #southkoreaeconomy #southkoreahistory
South Korea is an incredibly rich country. South Korea's economy went from being one of the smallest in the world, to one of the largest, in a single generation. This phenomenon is known as the miracle of the Han River. Very few countries have managed to succeed economically like South Korea has and today many developing nations study South Korea's rise closely in order to implement some of the strategies that made this country so prosperous.

This documentary unveils secrets about how Korea, once the poorest country in the world, escaped poverty and grew to become the World's 14th largest economy and the first Asian nation to host the G20 summit, in 2010. The film identifies key factors behind Korea's economic success such as Korea's strategies, incessant efforts and investment that helped the nation achieve what the world came to call the "Miracle on the Han River."
Let's go sit down by the river Me and my best friend I see tents and smoke in the distance I see acres of lands between me and fear We're walking down towards the river Me and my best friend And as I dip myself into the water Free myself of all that is tense For these moments, I digress You know You know You know just where to find me You know You know
