The Mirrer Yeshiva was founded in 1815, 12 years after the founding of the Volozhin Yeshiva, by one of the prominent residents of a small town called Mir (then in White Russia, Russian Empire), Rabbi Shmuel Tiktinsky. After Rav Shmuel's death, his youngest son, Rabbi Chaim Leib Tiktinsky, was appointed rosh yeshiva. He was succeeded by his son, Rav Avrohom, who brought Rabbi Eliyahu Boruch Kamai into the yeshiva. During Rabbi Kamai's tenure the direction of the yeshiva wavered between those who wished to introduce the study of musar and those who were against it.
The Mir yeshiva (Hebrew:ישיבת מיר, Yeshivas Mir), known as the Mirrer Yeshiva or The Mir, is an OrthodoxJewishyeshiva in Jerusalem, Israel. With over 7,500 single and married students, it is the largest yeshiva in Israel and one of the largest in the world. Most students are from the United States and Israel, with many from other part of the world such as UK, Belgium, France, Mexico, Switzerland, Argentina, Australia and Canada.
History
The yeshiva was originally founded in the small Polish town of Mir, Belarus in 1814 by Rabbi Shmuel Tiktinsky. After his death, his youngest son, Chaim Leib Tiktinsky, was appointed rosh yeshiva. He was succeeded by his son, Avrohom Tiktinsky, who brought Rabbi Eliyahu Boruch Kamai into the yeshiva. In 1903, Rabbi Kamai's daughter married Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel (Reb Leizer Yudel), son of Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel (the Alter of Slabodka), who in time became the rosh yeshiva of the Mir. The yeshiva remained in that location until 1914.
The Mir yeshiva (Hebrew:ישיבת מיר, Yeshivas Mir), commonly known as the Mirrer Yeshiva or The Mir, is officially registered with the College Board as the Mirrer Yeshiva Central Institute. It is a prominent, Harediyeshiva located in Brooklyn, New York known for talmudic studies.
Its long-time Rosh Yeshiva was Rabbi Shmuel Berenbaum, who died on January 6, 2008. Rabbi Berenbaum was a son-in-law of the founder of the Brooklyn branch of the Mir Yeshiva, Rabbi Avraham Kalmanowitz. Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a statement praising Berenbaum, noting that he built the Jewish academy "into one of the largest centers for Torah study in the world." Steven Bayme, national director of contemporary Jewish life at the American Jewish Congress said the yeshiva helped preserve "a world that was otherwise lost."
Poland is a historical novel written by James A. Michener and published in 1983 detailing the times and tribulations of three Polish families (the Lubonski family, the Bukowski family, and the Buk family) across eight centuries, ending in the then-present day (1981).
Overview
Michener was hired by a television company to travel to a foreign country to shoot a documentary. He was offered support to go anywhere in the world and Michener decided to make the trip to Poland. Following this, Michener made several trips back to Poland and conducted extensive study of Poland's history and culture. He began writing the book in 1979 and it was published four years later.
Like Michener's other works, he includes an acknowledgments section at the beginning of the book; however due to the political turmoil in Poland at the time, Michener decided not to include the names of the people he traveled with for fear of persecutions against them. He writes: "Normally, as I have done in my other novels, I would list their names, their impressive occupations, their achievements in research and scholarship, but I cannot ascertain whether in the present climate this would hurt or help them."
All songs written and composed by Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Johannes Schmoelling.
The four tracks consist of 3-4 distinct sections each. The last two of the four sections of "Tangent" are titled "Polish Dance" (which is notably similar to the composition "Choronzon" from Exit) and "Rare Bird" respectively, and the second section of "Barbakane" is titled "Warsaw in the Sun". There are also further, less known official and unofficial names for some other sections of the album, too. It was also available as a limited edition picture disc which feature the cover photos directly on the LPs' vinyl.
Out of twelve CD releases, only three have the complete album, all others are either missing "Tangent" or have a truncated version of "Barbakane."

Mir was the first continuously inhabited long-term research station in orbit and held the record for the longest continuous human presence in space at 3,644 days until 23 October 2010 when it was surpassed by the ISS. It holds the record for the longest single human spaceflight, with Valeri Polyakov spending 437 days and 18 hours on the station between 1994 and 1995. Mir was occupied for a total of twelve and a half years out of its fifteen-year lifespan, having the capacity to support a resident crew of three, or larger crews for short visits.
Mir, 85 km. southwest of Minsk, has a population of 2,200 people today, but before the Second World War about 6,000 people lived here, and more than half were Jews.

Holocaust tragedy and rescue commemorated at former Mir Yeshiva
For the first time in decades, a Holocaust commemoration event was held in this town, which used to be one of Europe’s main hubs of Jewish learning.
Attending the event in Mir, a town of some 2,000 residents southwest of Minsk, was Nobuki Sugihara, the son of Japan’s only Holocaust-era savior of Jews, Chiune Sugihara. The Limmud FSU Jewish learning organization invited Nobuki Sugihara and hundreds of Belarus Jews to the ceremony at the former yeshiva, whose students Chiune Sugihara saved.

In 1940, after the yeshiva relocated to Vilna, Chine Sugihara, then Japan’s consul in Lithuania, gave life-saving transit visa to the yeshiva’s 700 students and more than 2,000 additional Jews.
This, along with another visa given to the same refugees by the Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk, allowed the asylum seekers to survive the Holocaust and flee the Nazis. Mir was one of a handful of famous yeshivas in Europe whose student body was almost entirely saved. Branches of the yeshiva were established in New York and Jerusalem.
“He knew they had nowhere to go, and that no one else was going to help them to survive,” Nobuki said of his father in a speech at the event. Chiune Sugihara’s career was stunted in Japan, an ally of Nazi Germany, and he quit the foreign ministry in 1947.
In a departure from the solemn character of previous Holocaust commemoration events held by Limmud FSU, the organization’s founder, Chaim Chesler, and some of the 600 Belarus Jews attending the event this weekend danced in Mir to the sounds of a local band in celebration of the lives saved by Sugihara.
“Sugihara is a symbol of courage and resourcefulness,” Chesler said.
The band and female dancers wore traditional clothes, and the mayor declared the day of the event a holiday in honor of the visitors.

The vaunted libraries of higher academic learning at the universities of Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge are paradigms of decorum, solitude and pristine quiet contemplation as students delve into the depths of research of the greatest minds of history's arts and sciences. Let us compare this track of study and research with the mode of study at the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, the House of Study for 6000 students who are training to become the leaders of the synagogues and schools of the Jewish people. Here, they are studying the thought of King David, Rabbi Akiva, Rambam, Rashi and Ramchal.

To date, the Dor Yeshorim program operates in dozens of countries around the world, having tested over 300,000 patients for the common recessive diseases.

Mir, 85 km. southwest of Minsk, has a population of 2,200 people today, but before the Second World War about 6,000 people lived here, and more than half were Jews.
The Mir Yeshiva was established in 1815, and was the second most important yeshiva in Lithuania after the Volozhin Yeshiva. It was founded by the merchant and Torah scholar Chaim Tiktinsky, who placed his son Avrohom at its head. Working alongside him was another rosh yeshiva, Yisrael Halir. Following Tiktinsky, the yeshiva was headed by Yosef Dovid Eisenstadt, his son Moshe Avrohom, Chaim Yehuda Tiktinsky, his son Avrohom, Eliyahu Boruch Kamai, his son-in-law Yehuda Finkel and his son Avrohom Zvi Kamai
The old synagogue is now a stationery store and a driver’s ed office. The famous Mir Yeshiva is now the local post office. This void in Jewish life in the area is not all bad in the eyes of Dayan.

Now a post office, the Mir yeshiva, or religious seminary, was one of Europe’s best-known and most prestigious institutions of its kind.
Mir Yeshiva began and in Belarus and traveled all the way to Shanghai, China during the war, before establishing institutions in Jerusalem and New York.
