Minnie Julia Riperton-Rudolph (November 8, 1947– July 12, 1979), known professionally as Minnie Riperton, was an American singer-songwriter best known for her 1975 single "Lovin' You". She was married to songwriter and music producer Richard Rudolph from 1972 until her death in 1979. They had two children: music engineer Marc Rudolph and actress/comedienne Maya Rudolph.
Riperton grew up on Chicago's South Side. As a child, she studied music, drama, and dance at Chicago's Lincoln Center. In her teen years, she sang lead vocals for the Chicago-based girl group, The Gems. Her early affiliation with the legendary Chicago-based Chess Records afforded her the opportunity to sing backup for various established artists such as Etta James, Fontella Bass, Ramsey Lewis, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, and Muddy Waters. While at Chess, Riperton also sang lead for the experimental rock/soul group Rotary Connection, from 1967 to 1971. On April 5, 1975, Riperton reached the apex of her career with her #1 single, "Lovin' You". The single was the last release from her 1974 gold album entitled Perfect Angel.
Love Lives Forever is the sixth and final studio album by American soul singer Minnie Riperton. Released posthumously in 1980, it was co-produced by her husband Richard Rudolph and released on her then-label Capitol Records. It consists of unused vocal sessions, put in music and vocally completed by artists she admired or with whom she shared her musical style. Even though most of the selections are set in a midtempo rhythm, they are calm in mood.
Background
This album was the first of its kind, in that all of Minnie's vocals were stripped from their earlier, original music tracks and completely redone. Completed with new musicians, vocalists and arrangements. Producer Quincy Jones described this difficult project best as "keeping the bridge, but moving the water".
The back cover contains a quote about Riperton of each artist who participated, and their signature (being a thumbprint for Stevie Wonder). Wonder's quote inspired the album title. Stevie, being a very close friend of Minnie, wrote these lines for her: "I miss you because I cannot touch you...but then again, I guess that I can because you're touching me...so, Love lives forever".

Minnie Riperton -Back Down Memory Lane
Minnie Julia Riperton-Rudolph (November 8, 1947 – July 12, 1979), Known professionally as Minnie Riperton, was an American singer-songwriter best known for her 1975 single "Lovin' You".
"Memory Lane" was a hit from the album, and was arguably Riperton's greatest work. Riperton incorporated the sadness of the ending of a relationship while suddenly shifting to cries of "I don't want to go," "save me," "now I'm slippin' fast," "thought it was over; here I go again," and "travelin' down, faster than the speed of sound." It is thought that "Memory Lane" was her farewell to her family and to the world. Her last televised performance was on an episode of The Merv Griffin Show (aired July 6, 1979), during which she performed Memory Lane and Lover and Friend.

I really wanna spend my life with you It's like it's that I can't deny It's like I wanna run away with you It's like I wanna tell everyone [Chorus:] That we're leaving far far away That we're leaving never coming back We'll do like Peter Pan and his own world Where we can fly and love forever yeah Love forever yeah I always wanna make you happy Always wanna make you smile I wanna count the stars in the universe With you love You have to know I love you Cause I know you love me back So go ahead and close your eyes And tell everyone [Chorus] And minutes will be hours And hours days And before you know it we'll be very far And then we'll scape to Rome, Egypt or France And if someone dares to ask we'll say that We're running very far far We'll be far away The World will be in your hands We'll make the difference and We'll say what we want We don't care if someone cares We're not gonna stay we're still gonna say
