Introduction to Geology
Geology is the study of the Earth itself. But contrary to popular belief, geologists don't just look at rocks all day. Of course rocks are important to study, but geologists also study earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, and the structure of the Earth from the crust all the way to the core. What kinds of techniques do they use, and what have they discovered? Let's find out together in this geology series!

By looking at the layers beneath our feet, geologists have been able to identify and describe crucial episodes in life’s history. These key events frame the chapters in the story of life on earth and the system we use to bind all these chapters together is the Geologic Time Scale.

How to Kill a Geologist | Animation
After 3 weeks it's finally done! Yeah, I know, a one minute simple animation shouldn't have taken 3 weeks, but I've had very little time to animate because of school. This was fun to make though! Designing the characters was great, and it was awesome to be able to watch it after it was done. I think I'm a little overly proud of it, but that's probably just cause I took so long to make it xD
I'm still learning Adobe Animate, but I think this was a significant improvement from my last animation, so progress is going good B)
Thanks so much for watching!!

There are some geological areas on the planet that scientists still don't understand. For most things it's pretty clear—combine a volcanic eruption a dash of erosion, and boom, you’ve got a striking cliff! But not all the features on this planet are so easy to figure out. Join Hank for a fascinating video about 6 geological mysteries we have yet to solve!

what is mining and geology? Bed rock and Country rock
Mining is the extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the Earth, usually from an ore body, lode, vein, seam, reef, or placer deposit. These deposits form a mineralized commodity that is of economic interest to the miner.
Geology can also include the study of the solid features of any terrestrial planet or natural satellite such as Mars or the Moon.
A mineral is a homogeneous and naturally occurring substance having definite physical properties and a composition that may be expressed by a chemical formula

The Rock Cycle
We've spent quite some time discussing igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks, their properties, and the conditions under which they form. Now it's time to zoom out and see how they are all connected in something called the rock cycle. This outlines the ways that each of these types of rock transforms into each of the others, and the situations under which this occurs.

Rocks on the Beach: Geoology 101 in Sandals
Beachcombing for rocks along the shores of Lake Michigan is not only fun, but also serves as a study into the geologic story of the Great Lakes region. Discover how sedimentary limestone containing fossils indicate that the Midwest was once a tropical ocean; and learn how the igneous and metamorphic rocks show the movement of glaciers during the Ice Age. Join Dave Dolak for this presentation and better appreciate your next stroll along the beaches of Lake Michigan.
