Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Widely considered one of the most influential and innovative musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was, together with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, post-bop and jazz fusion.
In 2006, Davis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which recognized him as "one of the key figures in the history of jazz". In 2008, his 1959 album Kind of Blue received its fourth platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for shipments of at least four million copies in the United States. On December 15, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a symbolic resolution recognizing and commemorating the album Kind of Blue on its 50th anniversary, "honoring the masterpiece and reaffirming jazz as a national treasure".
The Miles Davis Quintet was an American jazz band from 1955 to early 1969 led by Miles Davis. The quintet underwent frequent personnel changes toward its metamorphosis into a different ensemble in 1969. Most references pertain to two distinct and relatively stable bands: the First Great Quintet from 1955 to 1958; and the Second Great Quintet from late 1964 to early 1969, Davis being the only constant throughout.
In the summer of 1955, Davis performed a noted set at the Newport Jazz Festival, and had been approached by Columbia Records executive George Avakian, offering a contract with the label if he could form a regular band. Davis assembled his first regular quintet to meet a commitment at the Café Bohemia in July with Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. By the autumn, Rollins had left to deal with his heroin addiction, and later in the year joined the hard bop quintet led by Clifford Brown and Max Roach.
Miles Davis Quintet (PRLP 185) is a 10 inch LP album by Miles Davis, released in 1954 by Prestige Records. The album title is not to be confused with either of Davis' later Great Quintets. The three tracks on this LP, and one other, were recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey, on April 3, 1954. This was the first session for Prestige Davis recorded at Gelder's home studio, as he would all his remaining sessions for the label.
After the 10" LP format was discontinued, tracks 1 & 2 were included on Side 2 of the 12" album Walkin' (PRLP 7076), and track 3 was reissued on the 12" album Blue Haze (PRLP 7054). A fourth song from the same session, "Love Me or Leave Me", was also included on Walkin'.
The Complete Studio Recordings of The Miles Davis Quintet 1965–1968 is a box set of six CDs covering the work of Miles Davis and his critically acclaimed second great quintet which featured Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams.
The box set includes all songs from, as well as some rehearsal and alternative takes, the albums E.S.P., Miles Smiles, Sorcerer, Nefertiti, Miles in the Sky and the quintet tracks from Filles de Kilimanjaro and Water Babies. The tracklist is sequenced in chronological order with the alternative takes preceding the final album version. A few of the tracks were previously unissued.
Miles: The New Miles Davis Quintet is an album by jazz musician Miles Davis released in 1956 on Prestige Records, catalogue 7014. It is the debut record by the Miles Davis Quintet, and generally known by the original title Miles as indicated on the cover.
In the summer of 1955, Davis performed a noted set at the Newport Jazz Festival, and had been approached by Columbia Records executive George Avakian, offering a contract with the label if he could form a regular band. Davis assembled his first regular quintet to meet a commitment at the Café Bohemia in July, by September the line-up stabilizing to John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums.
Still under contract to Prestige, an arrangement dating back to January 1951, Davis convinced Avakian to buy out his contract with Prestige. The terms of the deal between Avakian and Weinstock allowed Davis to record for Columbia but not release any of the material until Davis fulfilled his remaining duty to Prestige. Davis took the quintet into the Columbia's studio first, on October 26, to record titles that would be issued on Round About Midnight. Three weeks later the quintet entered the studio of Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack, New Jersey, yielding the six titles for this album. During the following year, Davis and his quintet would record enough material over two Van Gelder sessions to yield "Cookin'", "Relaxin'", "Workin'", and "Steamin'" and fulfill their contractual obligation to Prestige.

"Kind of Blue" is a studio album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released on August 17, 1959, by Columbia Records. Recording sessions for the album took place at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City on March 2 and April 22, 1959. The sessions featured Davis's ensemble sextet, with pianist Bill Evans, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. After the entry of Evans into his sextet, Davis followed up on the modal experimentations of Milestones (1958) by basing Kind of Blue entirely on modality, in contrast to his earlier work with the hard bop style of jazz. Though precise figures have been disputed, Kind of Blue has been described by many music writers not only as Davis's best-selling album, but as the bes...

Baby, won't you make up your mind
What are you going to do
Why don't you say that we're through
Your actions are so unkind
Baby, won't you make up your mind
Just don't keep breaking my heart
It seems that you want to part
Baby, won't you make up your mind
You been tug, tug, tuggin' on my poor heartstrings
You been pound, pound, pounding on my brain
My resistance is low, so if you must go
Go and I will refrain, from
Asking you to make up your mind
I'm tired of playin' this game
I've suffered just enough pain
Baby, won't you make up your mind
Baby, won't you make up your mind
Baby, won't you make up your mind
I'm tired of playing this game
I've suffered just enough pain
Baby, won't you make up your mind
Baby, won't you make up...your mind
