The film was followed by three made-for-TV sequels in 1994, which did not feature any of the principal actors, although a few characters are carried over from the first film.
Plot
Bounty hunter Jack Walsh (De Niro) is enlisted by bail bondsman Eddie Moscone (Pantoliano) to bring accountant Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Grodin) back to L.A. The accountant had embezzled $15 million from Chicago mob boss Jimmy Serrano (Farina) before skipping the $450,000 bail Moscone has posted for him. Walsh must bring Mardukas back within five days, or Moscone defaults. Moscone says the job is easy, a "midnight run", but Walsh demands $100,000. Walsh is then approached by FBI Agent Alonzo Mosely (Kotto), who wants Mardukas to be a witness against Serrano and orders Walsh to keep away from Mardukas, but Walsh takes no notice and instead steals Mosely's ID, which he uses to pass himself off as an FBI agent along his journey. Serrano’s henchmen Tony (Richard Foronjy) and Joey (Miranda) offer Walsh $1 million to turn Mardukas over to them, but he turns them down.
"Midnight Run" is a song by British singer Example from Example's third studio album, Playing in the Shadows. It was released on 4 December 2011 in the United Kingdom as the album's fourth single with an entire remix album on iTunes. The song was produced by Feed Me.

A music video to accompany the release of "Midnight Run" was first released onto YouTube on 21 October 2011 at a total length of four minutes and four seconds. The video was filmed in Iceland, and sees Example sink into his bathtub before emerging out of an Icelandic spring. He then proceeds to embark on a road trip with a mysterious blonde woman before turning up at a remote cottage below the Northern Lights. The car used in the video, with the special license plate FEED ME to honour the song's producer, is a classic Ford Mustang Fastback from 1966 equipped with a High Performance 289 V-8 and the famous Pony Interior package in Red.

Road Fighter(ロードファイター,Rōdo Faitā) is a car-based arcade game developed by Konami and released in December 1984. It also was the first car racing game from Konami. The goal is to reach the finish line within the stages without running out of time, hitting other cars or running out of fuel (fuel is refilled by hitting a special type of car). The game also spawned two sequels in its time, Midnight Run: Road Fighter 2 in 1995 and Winding Heat in 1996, respectively. A Japan-only rebooted sequel was also released in 2010, 14 years after Winding Heat.
