Secrets of the Stone Age (1/2) | DW Documentary
During the Stone Age, humans shifted from the nomadic lifestyle to the more settled life of farmers. A documentary on an important period of human history. Watch Part 2 here: https://youtu.be/XSGRd5Ve1zI
Around 12,000 years ago, humans underwent a transition from nomads to settlers. That epoch, the Stone Age, produced monumental building works. Part 1 of this two-part documentary illuminates the cultural background of these structures and shows the difficulties Stone Age humans had to contend with. Until around 10,000 BC, humans lived as hunters and gatherers. Then an irreversible change began. Settlements formed. Stone Age | Prehistoric age | Paleolithic | Mesolithic | Neolithic | Stone Age Humans
The Stone Age is the longest period of pre-history, which lasted from the moment of the emergence of man to the beginning of the development of metal tools by him. Do you want to learn more about the Stone Age? Well, you've come to the right place! Find out about what is the Stone Age, how long did the Stone Age last, why is it called the Stone Age, what are the three periods of the Stone Age, what were early humans like, what was life like in the Stone Age, what were Stone Age houses made from, what are cave paintings, what did cavemen wear, what did prehistoric humans eat. These Stone Age facts answer many of the common questions people ask when they're learning about the Stone Age.

Queens Of The Stone Age / feat. Dave Grohl - Song For The Dead (Werchter 2002)
* RIP Mark Lanegan (November 25, 1964 – February 22, 2022) *
This is a piece of rock 'n' roll history. One of the best QOTSA live performances ever, in my opinion. This lineup from the "Songs for the Deaf" era is personally my favorite. It was like the dream team.
(Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, Dave Grohl, Troy Van Leeuwen) ... Enjoy!
I personally recorded this via my digital satellite reciever in 2003, I had to sit and wait for many days to catch this live footage on the program schedule again, just to be able to record it. Those were the days. :D

What If You Had to Live a Day in the Stone Age
Imagine you just wake up one day and there's no electricity, no internet, no money, and no work or school. Nothing you're used to! You're not even in your own home, because you’ve magically transported to the Stone Age. What could possibly happen next?
Of course, your first reaction would be shock, but we'll move past that. First, let's look around. This is your cave where you live with your family. You have your own sleeping area that’s covered with animal skin. However, you might also live in a primitive hut supported by mammoth tusks and ribs, with an animal skin over it as protection from the rain. And if you're wondering where the Stone Age people did their business, don't be surprised to find out it was basically anywhere outdoors.

Jordan: The mysterious Stone Age village | DW Documentary
The Neolithic village of Ba'ja in Jordan is a famous archaeological site. It was one of the world's first known settlements, founded some 9,000 years ago. The site has produced magnificent finds including an ancient necklace made of 2,500 beads.
What prompted our Neolithic ancestors to settle down? Why did they change their nomadic, hunter-gatherer lives so radically? As is so often the case in archaeology, it is tombs that tell us the most, while also raising new questions.
One of the most magnificent finds at the Ba'ja archaeological site is the richly furnished tomb of a young girl. In 2018, as the excavation team was about to depart, beads emerged from beneath the slab of a nondescript tomb. The team kept working until they finally recovered around 2,500 beads. Further research show...

"For millions of years humans lived as foragers and suddenly their lives changed radically. This was far more radical than the start of the digital age or industrialization," says prehistorian Hermann Parzinger, president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. For a long time, scholars believed that a sedentary lifestyle was a prerequisite for constructing large buildings. Then archaeologist Klaus Schmidt discovered Göbekli Tepe in southern Turkey, a 12,000-year-old complex of stone blocks weighing up to 20 tons. Its builders were still hunter- gatherers. They decorated the stone columns with ornate animal reliefs. How these structures were used and who was allowed access to them remains a mystery. But we now know that the site was abandoned and covered over once settlements took root. Human development continued its course. The discovery of agriculture and animal husbandry led to larger settlements, a changed diet and ultimately to dependence on material goods. This social upheaval in the late Neolithic period has influenced our lives up to the present day. But experts agree that the monuments of the Stone Age prove that humans have gigantomanic tendencies and a need to immortalize themselves.

* RIP Mark Lanegan (November 25, 1964 – February 22, 2022) *

SUMMARY:
- Back in the day, humans used the skins of the animals they hunted to create simple, rough loincloths. To make the skin more flexible, they had to chew it.
- What about footwear? Scientists believe it appeared about 40,000 years ago.
- Ancient humans chose caves or built huts in the safest places they could find.
- See, you’re not that much different from the modern you. Just your hair is a mess and you might be a few inches smaller with a more developed jaw because of the harsh diet.
- Now it’s time for breakfast! Luckily, you have some leftovers from dinner – eggs, wild fruits, and berries.
-Thankfully, the Ice Age is long gone, so the weather is warm, and lush greenery is in abundance. That’s good for you since you have to pick different edible plants, nuts, fruits, and wild grains.
- The Stone Age folks usually united in groups of 20-50 and helped each other survive.
- To separate the grains from the husks, take a stone bowl and a small grinding stone and grind the grains. Now, if you mix smashed grains with water, you’ll get gruel.
- The Stone Age people survived because they did almost everything together, so call up your camp neighbors and get ready.
- How did humans communicate back then? At the very beginning of the Stone Age, they only used different cries and gestures to express their fear, joy, pain or to alert the others about some danger.
- The first and most primitive things used for taking animals down were long sharpened wooden sticks, and just a big rock.
- There were two main hunting techniques back then. The first was rather time-consuming, but safer. It included digging a huge hole around the place where animals went to drink water.
- Another technique was all about group chasing the animal and forcing it into the mud and water channels where they had no way to get out.
- Fishing nets were made of tree bark and grass. The oldest one found by archeologists dates back to 8300 BCE.
- The Stone Age life was anything but easy. But still, humans had some kind of entertainment. No, you’re not going to an amusement park or a cinema. But you can pass the time playing music on the flutes made from bird bones and mammoth ivory.

Meet Peppa Pig and her family:
Peppa Pig is a lovable but slightly bossy little pig. She is four years old and lives with Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and her little brother George.
Peppa likes playing with her best friend Suzy Sheep, visiting Granny and Grandpa Pig and looking after George. Most of all, Peppa loves jumping up and down in muddy puddles, laughing and making loud snorting noises.
George Pig is Peppa’s little brother. He is 18 months old and loves to play with his big sister, Peppa – even when she’s being bossy. George’s favourite thing is his toy dinosaur. He carries it everywhere with him. George can’t speak yet but can say one word very well: ‘Dine-saw!’
Mummy Pig likes jumping up and down in muddy puddles almost as much as Peppa. She works from home on her computer and sometimes lets Peppa and George help, as long as they don’t bash the keyboard. She is better at map reading than Daddy Pig and is very wise about most things.
Daddy Pig is very jolly and laughs all the time, especially when he plays with Peppa and George.
Daddy Pig reads the paper and gets excited about trips in the car. He loves cookies and pumpkin pie and Peppa teases him about his big round tummy. Daddy Pig can be a tiny bit grumpy sometimes when he can’t remember where he put his glasses.
Have fun with Peppa Pig and her friends: Suzy Sheep, Rebecca Rabbit, Danny Dog, Candy Cat, Pedro Pony, Zoe Zebra, Emily Elephant, Freddy Fox, Kylie Kangaroo, Wendy Wolf, Gabriella Goat, Gerald Giraffe, Molly Mole, Belinda Bear, Delphine Donkey, Peggi and Pandora Panda, Mandy Mouse, Simon Squirrel!

Further research showed the beads belonged to an elaborately crafted necklace that had been buried with the girl. The team affectionately christened her Jamila, "the beautiful one."
Jamila's necklace is a sensation, and has been put on display at the new Petra Museum. There, the entire history of the country is presented, beginning with Ba'ja and humankind’s decision to leave behind the hunter-gatherer lifestyle.
Along with other finds from Ba'ja, Jamila's finely wrought necklace calls into question much of what we thought we knew about the Stone Age. In recent decades, the burial site in Jordan has helped us see Neolithic people through different eyes. One thing seems clear: They were able to invest time in aesthetics, jewelry and furnishings because their food supply was secure.
