Michael Boyle (born 1986/1987) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays Gaelic football with his local club Termon and is a member of the Donegal senior inter-county team. Educated at Saint Eunan's College in Letterkenny, he has been his county's number one goalkeeper in the past, though Paul Durcan has had something to say about that. Boyle has also played soccer for Finn Harps in the League of Ireland.
Playing career
College
With DCU Boyle won the Sigerson Cup twice in 2010 and 2012. He was goalkeeper both times, on the team that beat UCC in the 2010 final and the team that beat NUI Maynooth in the 2012 final.
Club
Despite being a goalkeeper, Boyle was Termon's top scorer with four points in an away fixture against Aodh Ruadh at Fr. Tierney Park in 2012. Termon defeated Aodh Ruadh by a total of five points, a score of 0–13 to 0–8. Boyle's performance led to media comparisons with Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton, who regularly does likewise for his team, including scoring the winning point in the 2011 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final.
Boyle was born in London, as the son of Michael Boyle, and brother of Richard Boyle, Archbishop of Tuam. Michael Boyle entered Merchant Taylors' School, London, in 1587, and proceeded to St John's College, Oxford, in 1593. He took the degrees of B.A. (5 December 1597), M.A. (25 June 1601), B.D. (9 July 1607) and D.D. (2 July 1611).
Boyle became a fellow of his college, and no high opinion was entertained there of his probity in matters affecting his own interests. Boyle was appointed vicar of Finedon in Northamptonshire. Through the influence of his relative, the Richard, Earl of Cork, became archdeacon of Cork and Cloyne, Dean of Lismore in 1614, and, finally, in 1619, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore.
Until his death in Waterford on 27 December 1635 Boyle held several other appointments: the chancellorship of Lismore and Cashel and the treasurership of Waterford. He was buried in Waterford Cathedral.
"The only thing the high-carb/low-fat diet of the '80s accomplished was renaming adolescent diabetes,"
"The whiter it is, the worse it is,"
"She sat there and shook and cried and kept saying, 'Thank you, thank you, thank you,'"
"The embassy has confirmed at least trace amounts of anthrax in one of the five mailbags"
"We look forward to knowing the results of that investigation. The United States has every intention of living up to the letter of our recent agreement in regard to beef imports into Japan and we will work closely with the appropriate authorities here in Japan and in the United States to ensure there is no repetition of this mistake."
"There is still work to be done. I think they are getting close on many of the issues."
"We've kind of kicked it down the road two or three days. That's all we're talking about."

This week I am joined by Mike Boyle to discuss split squats and unilateral vs bilateral loading.
What is the limiting factor in a squat?
Is it your back or your legs? For just about every human being, the low back is the limiting factor to squatting more. It is the failure point. It's also the most common place people have pain and injury.
Let's say you could back squat 250lbs for a set or 10. If you divide that by two, you get 125lbs, which is essentially the load each leg is doing for the set of 10.
Now if the limitation was the legs, you could assume that in a split squat, you'd be arguably close to being able to do 10 reps as a max with 65lbs in each hand. Boyle has tested this ov...

Boyle has tested this over and over again and found that in the split squat, each leg outperforms what it 'should' be achieving based on the performance in the back squat.
So what's the conclusion from that?
The limitation to the back squat is your spine's ability to maintain integrity. There are of course counter arguments that have some good points: 'You aren't getting down as far' or 'you're pushing from the back leg', etc. Boyle addresses those in the video above.
Point being, you should definitely be training split squats. They need a bigger place in most people's training, especially if you already do a ton of squatting. Split squats also give the hip socket a break and can be an effective training tool if there is any hip irritation at depth in the conventional squat.

How can the small flowers grow If the wild winds blow And the cold snow is all around Where will the frail birds fly If their homes on high Have been torn down to the ground Lift the Wings That carry me away from here and Fill the Sail That breaks the time to home But when I'm miles and miles apart from you I'm beside you when I think of you - a Stóirín a Grá How can a tree stand tall If the rain won't fall To wash its branches down How can a heart survive Can it stay alive If its love's denied for long Lift the Wings That carry me away from here and Fill the Sail That breaks the line to home But when I'm miles and miles apart from you I'm beside you when I think of you - a Stóirín And I'm with you when I think of you - a Stóirín
