According to the 2011 census, 80.9% of people in Knowsley describe themselves as Christian, the highest proportion in any local authority in England and Wales.
The term "metropolitan borough" was first used for administrative subdivisions of the County of London between 1900 and 1965. However, the present boroughs of Greater London, which have different boundaries and functions, and are much larger in area, are known as London Boroughs rather than metropolitan boroughs.
Parliamentary boroughs covering the metropolitan area were created in 1832. They were Finsbury, Greenwich, Lambeth, Marylebone, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Westminster. Soon after their creation it was proposed that they should be incorporated for local government purposes and this was also a finding of the Royal Commission on the City of London, but this did not happen.
The metropolitan boroughs were created in 1900 by the London Government Act 1899 which created 28 metropolitan boroughs as sub-divisions of the County of London. Their borough councils replaced vestries and district boards as the second tier of local government.
Some boroughs were formed as amalgamations of parishes, but most were continuations of existing units of local government with the parish vestry or district board elevated to a borough council. With the creation of the boroughs, the opportunity was taken to correct a number of boundary anomalies. All civil parishes in the County of London, continued to exist, although their role was reduced to administration of the New Poor Law and they were amalgamated over time to become aligned with the boroughs.
Situated to the south west of Manchester city centre, the borough of Trafford spans historic sporting grounds, over 200 listed buildings and beautiful green spaces. The home of Manchester United Football Club and Lancashire County Cricket Club, this is also the area to visit if you fancy a spot of indoor skiing or exploring an inflatable theme park. From the staggering exhibitions at IWM North through to gigs at Victoria Warehouse and films at the plush Everyman Altrincham, Trafford has no shortage of cultural things to do. Head to the independent restaurants and bars in Urmston or Stretford Food Hall for refreshments, to Dunham Massey or Walkden Gardens for an escape into nature. Trafford has it all.

SUMMARY
=======
A metropolitan borough is a type of local government district in England, and is a subdivision of a metropolitan county. Created in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972, metropolitan boroughs are defined in English law as metropolitan districts. However, all of them have been granted or regranted royal charters to give them borough status (as well as, in some cases, city status). Metropolitan boroughs have been effectively unitary authority areas since the abolition of the metropolitan county councils by the Local Government Act 1985. However, metropolitan boroughs pool much of their authority in joint boards and other arrangements that cover whole metropolitan counties, such as combined authorities.

Metropolitan Borough Of Lambeth
Lambeth was a civil parish and metropolitan borough in south London, England. It was an ancient parish in the county of Surrey. The parish was included in the area of responsibility of the Metropolitan Board of Works in 1855 and became part of the County of London in 1889. The parish of Lambeth became a metropolitan borough in 1900, following the London Government Act 1899, with the parish vestry replaced by a borough council. In 1965 the borough was abolished and became part of the larger London Borough of Lambeth in Greater London.

10 Greenest Boroughs in London
What are the greenest areas in London? We live in an increasingly urbanized world which, if left with the pace of industrialization and growth, may soon become uninhabitable. Making our cities more environmentally friendly requires that all hands be on deck. Cities in the UK are sparing no effort when it comes to making more green space available for residents. Let’s now illustrate this by considering the 10 greenest boroughs in London.
Which ones of the 32 boroughs in London Boroughs are leading the way in this regard? You will find an interesting discussion in the ranking in this video based on what regional data elements such as pollution, quality of life, life expectancy, and available green spaces reveal about these 10 greenest boroughs in London.

10. Westminster
Let’s start with Westminster. This borough in Inner London forms a core part of Central London. This borough occupies a vast area of central Greater London and this includes most of the West End. Westminster is one of the greenest boroughs in London.
The borough has a population of 261,317, according to the 2019 estimate. The city's size is about 21.5 square kilometers. In the Green City Index which assigns scores to calculate how much green space is there in an area, Westminster scores 40.76 out of a possible score of 60. Westminster Borough is largely residential. It has many large parks and numerous open spaces, including Hyde Park and Regents Park. It’s a green borough despite its high population density.
9. Hammersmith & Fulham
This is a borough in West London that also forms part of Inner London. It was formed in 1965 by merging the former Metropolitan Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham. It is one of the 10 greenest boroughs in London. It’s home to three professional soccer clubs, namely Chelsea, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers.
Based on its total area of 16.40 square kilometers and its population of 186,143, it may have some challenges with its population density of 11,000 residents per kilometer square. Hammersmith & Fulham have a green space score of 41.05, doing well in all six criteria. It devotes 231 hectares of land to parks and open spaces accessible to the general public. Of these 159 hectares are within parks and 52.5 hectares are cemeteries and churchyards.
8. Croydon
Croydon, the southernmost borough of London, has transformed from a small market town into one of the most populous areas on the city’s fringe. It’s the eighth-greenest borough in London. With a total area of 86.5 square kilometers, Croydon is the second-largest borough in London and the fifteenth in England. It has a population of 386,710, according to the 2019 estimate.
Gone are the days when it was being criticized for not having enough leisure facilities and being ranked as a three-star borough. Its current green space score is 41.73 out of 60. This is not bad, you would agree. It has over 120 parks and open spaces, ranging from the 0.81 square kilometer Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve to so many recreation grounds and sports fields dotting the borough.
7. Merton
Merton borough was a product of the Municipal Borough of Mitcham, the Municipal Borough of Wimbledon, and the Merton and Morden Urban District. Occupying a total area of 37.6 square kilometers, its 2019 estimated population was 206,548.
Based on the criteria such as green outdoor space, green space percentage, air quality, number of parks, number of gardens, number of nature and wildlife areas, number of playgrounds, bodies of water, and number of forests, Merton gathers a total score of 42.73 in green space score.

So. You live in London. DO you live in London though? How exactly do you DEFINE living in London?
This isn't the first time we've posed the question (http://londonist.com/2013/05/what-counts-as-london) but this time we've come up with a graphical video that contrasts and compares the various ways people define London.
Take a look and then decide if you still consider yourself to live in London - and if you're interested as to why there are no NE or S London postcodes, here's the story behind it: http://londonist.com/2015/08/why-is-there-no-ne-or-s-london-postcode-district

The Metropolitan Borough of Tameside is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester in North West England. It is named after the River Tame which flows through the borough and spans the towns of Ashton-under-Lyne, Audenshaw, Denton, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Hyde, Mossley and Stalybridge.
The current borough was created in 1974 as part of the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972. Since then the area has been administered by Tameside Borough Council, which has been judged by the Audit Commission to be "performing strongly".
Written and directed by Manish Patel.
The 'Planting Our Future' campaign encourage residents to engage with tree planting, get involved in green infrastructure projects and offers support to private landowners who wish to plant trees. Since the campaign started in 2020, they have planted 75,000 trees across the borough, and are on track to hit a major milestone of 100k trees by the end of March 2024.
During this time, Solihull Council have engaged with over 700 volunteers in tree planting events. At every step of the way, the community have been involved from designing to planting. Fifty community planting events took place, 10 of which were sponsored by local businesses.
West Midlands Combined Authority is a group of local authorities here to make the region a better place to live and work.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
How has London been defined and formed over time? You may be familiar with the Greater London area now and its boroughs, but how was London shaped and defined before that? We show you!
