Meritamen was one of six known children of Thutmose and Merytre. Her siblings were Pharaoh Amenhotep II, Prince Menkheperre and princesses Nebetiunet, a second Meritamen and Iset. She is depicted, together with her sisters and Menkheperre, on a statue of their maternal grandmother Hui (now in the British Museum). She is also depicted in the Hathor chapel built by her father in Deir el-Bahri.
She inherited the title God's Wife of Amun from her mother. Her additional titles were King's Daughter and King's Sister.
Thutmose and Merytre had a second daughter called Meritamen; she is also depicted on Hui's statue. It is not known which of these princesses is shown on the lap of Benermerut, the Overseer of the Works, on his cubic statue found in Karnak.
Thutmose III (sometimes read as Thutmosis or Tuthmosis III, Thothmes in older history works, and meaning "Thoth is born") was the sixth Pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty. During the first twenty-two years of Thutmose's reign he was co-regent with his stepmother and aunt, Hatshepsut, who was named the pharaoh. While he was shown first on surviving monuments, both were assigned the usual royal names and insignia and neither is given any obvious seniority over the other. He served as the head of her armies.
After her death and his later rise to pharaoh of the kingdom, he created the largest empire Egypt had ever seen; no fewer than seventeen campaigns were conducted, and he conquered from Niya in North Syria to the Fourth Cataract of the Nile in Nubia.
Officially, Thutmose III ruled Egypt for almost fifty-four years, and his reign is usually dated from April 24, 1479BC to March 11, 1425BC; however, this includes the twenty-two years he was co-regent to Hatshepsut. During the final two years of his reign, he appointed his son and successor, Amenhotep II, as his junior co-regent. His firstborn son and heir to the throne, Amenemhat, predeceased Thutmose III. When Thutmose III died, he was buried in the Valley of the Kings as were the rest of the kings from this period in Egypt.
Meritamen was a daughter of Ramesses and his favourite wife Nefertari. She appears as the fourth daughter in the list of daughters in Abu Simbel and had at least four brothers: Amun-her-khepeshef, Pareherwenemef, Meryre and Meryatum, as well as a sister named Henuttawy. Meritamen may have had more brothers and sisters, but these five are known from the facade of Queen Nefertari's temple in Abu Simbel.
Meritamen's siblings are relatively well-known to us. Her eldest brother - Amun-her-khepeshef - was the crown prince until at least year 25 of the reign of their father. Prince Prehirwenemef is known to have served in the army and is depicted in the battle scenes from Kadesh. The youngest sibling known to us - Prince Meryatum - would later become High Priest of Re in Heliopolis.
Around the time her mother died (around the 24th or 25th regnal year), Meritamen became Great Royal Wife, along with her half-sister Bintanath.
Meritamun took over the role of God's Wife of Amun from her mother Ahmose Nefertari. Other titles recorded for Meritamun include: lady of the two lands (nbt-t3wy), (Great) King’s Wife (hmt-niswt(-wrt)), mistress of the entire two lands (hnwt-t3wy-tm), god’s wife (hmt-ntr), united with the white crown (khnmt-nfr-hdjt), king’s daughter (s3t-niswt), and king’s sister (snt-niswt).
The title king’s mother (mwt-niswt) is also recorded in later sources, even though she was never the mother of a king.
A limestone statue of this queen was discovered by Giovanni Belzoni while he was working in Karnak in 1817.
Meritamen, also spelled Meritamun, Merytamen, Meryetamen (“Beloved of Amun”) is an ancient Egyptian female name. Its male counterpart is Meryamen or Meryamun.

Mummies are definitely real! But they're not the monsters that you meet in scary books and movies. A mummy is a dead body that has been chemically preserved. Some ancient cultures believed that preserving a person's body after they died would help to preserve their soul or spirit.
