Mercutio (/mərˈkjuːʃioʊ/,mur-KEW-shee-o) is a fictional character in William Shakespeare's 1597 tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. He is a close friend to Romeo and a blood relative to Prince Escalus and Count Paris. As such, being neither a Montague nor a Capulet, Mercutio is one of the few in Verona with the ability to mingle around those of both houses, although he is friend'sBenvolio. The invitation to Capulet's party states that he has a brother named Valentine.
Role in the play
One of Romeo's closest friends, Mercutio entreats Romeo to forget about his unrequited love for a girl named Rosaline and come with him to a masquerade ball at Lord Capulet's estate. There, Mercutio and his friends become the life of the party, but Romeo steals away to Juliet, Capulet's daughter, with whom he has fallen in love, and he falls out of love with Rosaline. When Mercutio sees Romeo the next day, he is glad to see that his friend is his old self again, and he encourages Romeo, all the while making bawdy jokes at Juliet's Nurse's expense.

Say you miss me You can't wait to kiss me And when you're away The minutes crawl by every day Say you love me That you're thinking of me And when you're around My feet never stay on the ground I'm not singing 'Cause my phone isn't ringing So call me up, dear I'll say anything you want to hear Don't ignore me Don't say that I'm boring My loving is here But who knows where I'll be next year Say you will Need me still When the walls fall in around me And when you held my hand By the ice cream stand And we stayed up all night Bleary eyes filled with light Yeah, I fell for you then Say you're sorry I don't have to worry And I'll sing you a song You were probably right all along Say you need me That you'll never treat me So indifferently Don't take these words lightly Say you will Need me still When the walls fall in around me Oh, say you will Love me still When I'm acting out When we scream and shout We're still a team Ooh, ooh
