Tracy Chapman (born March 30, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter, known for her hits "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason", along with other singles "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", "Baby Can I Hold You", "Crossroads", "New Beginning" and "Telling Stories". She is a multi-platinum and four-time Grammy Award-winning artist.
Chapman was signed to Elektra Records by Bob Krasnow in 1987. The following year she released her critically acclaimed debut album Tracy Chapman, which became a multi-platinum worldwide hit. The album garnered Chapman six Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year, three of which she won, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her single "Fast Car", and Best New Artist. Chapman released her second album Crossroads the following year, which garnered her an additional Grammy nomination. Since then, Chapman has experienced further success with six more studio albums, which include her multi-platinum fourth album New Beginning, for which she won a fourth Grammy award, for Best Rock Song, for its lead single "Give Me One Reason". Chapman's most recent release is Our Bright Future, in 2008.
Tracy Chapman is the self-titled debut album by singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, released on April 5, 1988, by Elektra Records. The album was recorded at the Powertrax studio in Hollywood, California. In 1987, Chapman was discovered by fellow Tufts University student Brian Koppelman. He offered to show her work to his father, who owned a successful publishing company; however, she did not consider the offer to be serious. After multiple performances, however, Koppelman found a demo tape of her singing her single "Talkin' Bout a Revolution", which he promoted to radio stations, and she was eventually signed to Elektra Records.
In early attempts to produce the first album, many producers turned down Chapman as they did not favor her musical direction. David Kershenbaum, however, decided to produce it as he wanted to record an acoustic music album. It was recorded in Hollywood, California in only eight weeks. Most of the writing is based on political and social causes.
Material world may refer to:
Material World was a weekly science magazine programme on BBC Radio 4 broadcast on a Thursday afternoon. The programme's regular presenter was Quentin Cooper, with contributions from scientists researching areas under discussion in each programme.
The programme began as The Material World in April 1998. It was presented by Trevor Phillips, a chemistry graduate of Imperial College. In September 2000 Phillips was told that he could no longer work at the BBC due to his close links with the Labour Party, which broke BBC rules of impartiality. He was one of the few regular black broadcasters on Radio 4. The programme was presented by Quentin Cooper from 2000 to its end in 2013.
Material World was one of the BBC's main conduits for up-to-date scientific news, along with Frontiers, Science in Action, and Bang Goes the Theory.
From 5 April 2010 the programme was repeated on a Monday evening at 21.00, in the former slot of Costing the Earth. For a short time, when programmes on 5 Live began webstreaming with video, Material World was also webcast.
Material World was a Canadian television sitcom, which aired on CBC Television from 1990 to 1993. In its first season, the show was a conventional sitcom, shot on videotape with a laugh track, but in subsequent seasons the show adopted a single-cam comedy-drama format.
The show starred Laura Bruneau as Kitty, a Toronto fashion designer. The cast also included Linda Sorenson as Kitty's mother Virginia (Seasons 1-4), Jayne Eastwood as her office assistant Bernice (Seasons 1-3), Chris Potter as her boyfriend Tim (Seasons 1-3), Angela Dohrmann as her downstairs neighbor and then roommate Angela (Seasons 3-4), James Kee as her business partner Martin (Seasons 3-4), and Karen LeBlanc as her store employee Lucy (Season 4).
The show's original theme song, "World of Wonder", was composed by series creator Jane Ford and performed by actress and singer Taborah Johnson. Johnson, who is the sister of actor Clark Johnson, appeared in the opening credits, singing the song on a street corner. Season four saw a change to the opening credits sequence, using Bob Wiseman's "What the Astronaut Noticed and Then Suggested" as its new theme music.

Don't you know you're talking about a revolution It sounds like a whisper Don't you know they're talking about a revolution It sounds like a whisper While they're standing in the welfare lines Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation Wasting time in unemployment lines Sitting around waiting for a promotion Don't you know you're talking about a revolution It sounds like a whisper Poor people are gonna rise up And get their share Poor people are gonna rise up And take what's theirs Don't you know you better run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run Oh I said you better run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run Cause Finally the tables are starting to turn Talking about a revolution Yes, Finally the tables are starting to turn Talki...

If you wait for me
Then I'll come for you
Although I've travelled far
I always hold a place for you
In my heart
If you think of me
If you miss me once in a while
Then I'll return to you
I'll return and fill that space in your heart
Chorus-
Remembering your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way
Back to you
If you'll be waiting
2nd verse-
If you dream of me
Like I dream of you
In a place that's warm and dark
In a place where I can feel
The beating of your heart
(chorus)
I've longed for you
And I have desired
To see your face your smile
To be with you wherever you are
(chorus)
3rd verse-
Please say you'll be waiting
Together again
It would feel so good to be in your arms
Where all my journeys end
If you make a promise
If it's one that you can keep
I vow to come for you
If you wait for me
And say you'll hold
A place for me
