Scott Travis (born September 6, 1961) is a Grammy Award winning American rock musician, best known as the drummer for the English heavy metal band Judas Priest and the American heavy metal band Racer X.
Biography
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Scott was a well-known drummer in the local music scene of a region known as Hampton Roads during the early 1980s. Playing with bands in clubs throughout Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News. Travis moved to California in the early/mid 1980s and played in various local bands, such as Hawk, and later on moved to play for the critically acclaimed Racer X, together with Paul Gilbert, and very briefly played in Saints Or Sinners, which later changed their name to The Scream, and also featured Travis's Racer X bandmates Bruce Bouillet and John Alderete. His big career move came about late in the decade after Judas Priest's longtime drummer, Dave Holland, exited the band, citing personal reasons.
Travis had always wanted to be the drummer of Judas Priest. As a young teen, he had often thought about setting up his drumkit in the parking lot at the Hampton Coliseum in hopes that the band would notice him as they went past with their tour bus. He finally decided to wait at the back of the arena to hand the band a tape of his playing. Holland was still the band's drummer at the time, so nothing ever came out of the encounter. When Holland did leave Judas Priest in 1989, Jeff Martin heard about it through his friendship with Rob Halford. Martin called up Travis one day and said "Guess who needs a drummer?" Travis auditioned for the vacant position and in 1989 got the job, thus becoming the first non-Briton to play for the band. Travis has been with the band ever since and he also handles drum duties for his earlier band Racer X. He played drums in Halford's band Fight from 1993 to 1995, but to date is best known for his work with Judas Priest, for which he has been widely acclaimed ever since his debut with Painkiller in 1990.
Master of Puppets is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on March 3, 1986 by Elektra Records. Recorded at the Sweet Silence Studios with producer Flemming Rasmussen, it was the first Metallica album released on a major label. Master of Puppets was the band's last album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus crash in Sweden during the album's promotional tour. The album peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 and became the first thrash metal album to be certified platinum. It was certified 6× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2003 for shipping six million copies in the United States. The album was eventually certified 6× platinum by Music Canada and gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
Master of Puppets was released to critical acclaim and has been included in several publications' best album lists. Its driving, virtuosic music and angry, political lyrics drew praise from critics outside the metal community. The album is considered the band's strongest effort of the period, and is one of the most influential heavy metal albums. Critics credit it for consolidating the American thrash metal scene with its atmospheric and meticulously performed songs. Many bands from all genres of heavy metal have covered the album's songs, including tribute albums.
"Master of Puppets" is a song by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released in France only on July 2, 1986 as the only single from the band's 1986 third studio album of the same name. It was also issued as a promo single in the US by Elektra Records.
It is the second and title track of the album, preceded by a shorter, high-speed typical thrash metal track, "Battery", a similar sequencing heard on Metallica's second (Ride the Lightning) and fourth (...And Justice for All) albums. "Master of Puppets" is also notable for its extensive use of downpicking and its long instrumental section, beginning at 3:34.
The song, as lead singer James Hetfield explained, "deals pretty much with drugs. How things get switched around, instead of you controlling what you're taking and doing, it's drugs controlling you." The song was bassist Cliff Burton's favorite song on the album, as quoted when the album was released. The song is one of the band's most famous and popular songs, frequently played at concerts.
The majority of episodes in this season are leftover episodes from the 9ABE production line, as well as one episode from the 8ABE production line ("Bystand Me"). The AABE production line (much like The Simpsons' 3G production line for seasons eight and nine) is a short-lived line and only lasts for five episodes (four airing this season and the fifth airing as a leftover episode next season).
Season 11: 2007
Season 12: 2007–08
Season 13: 2008–10
Beginning with the episode "Lucky See, Monkey Do", King of the Hill started being produced in 720p high-definition. This was also the final season of King of the Hill. 20th Century Fox Television initially ordered 13 DABE production episodes, but decided to keep the show in production for four additional episodes (DABE14–DABE17). However, the network only aired the last of those four episodes (13 total for that production season), and confirmed it would not air the remaining four unaired episodes (DABE13–DABE16) in prime time, opting instead for syndication. These episodes premiered between May 3 and May 6, 2010, on local stations and premiered on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim line-up between May 17 and May 20, 2010, followed by the series finale (DABE17, "To Sirloin With Love") on May 21, 2010.
On July 28, 2018 Accept and Judas Priest shared the bill in Vienna, Austria at the Weiner Stadthalle. I was allowed to hang in drum world for the last few songs of the show and film. Here's "Painkiller" from my point of view.
Filmed with a GoPro Hero 5 mounted in a Karma Grip. Edited in iMovie with bass reduction on the audio (It was pretty "Boomy" before).
Thanks Scott and John!
