A political and financial patron of Julius Caesar, Crassus joined Caesar and Pompey in the unofficial political alliance known as the First Triumvirate. Together the three men dominated the Roman political system. The alliance would not last indefinitely due to the ambitions, egos, and jealousies of the three men. While Caesar and Crassus were lifelong allies, Crassus and Pompey disliked each other and Pompey grew increasingly envious of Caesar's spectacular successes in the Gallic Wars. The alliance was re-stabilized at the Lucca Conference in 56 BC, after which Crassus and Pompey again served jointly as Consuls. Following his second Consulship, Crassus was appointed as the Governor of Roman Syria. Crassus used Syria as the launchpad for a military campaign against the Parthian Empire, Rome's long-time Eastern enemy. Crassus' campaign was a disastrous failure, resulting in his defeat and death at the Battle of Carrhae.
Marcus Licinius Crassus the Younger, also known as Marcus Licinius Crassus Dives (fl. 1st century BC), grandson of the triumvirMarcus Licinius Crassus, was a RomanConsul in the year 30 BC along with Octavian (the future Roman EmperorAugustus). He was best known for his successful campaigns in Macedonia and Thrace in 29–27 BC, for which he was denied customary military honors by Octavian.
Military career
Crassus was a Roman general, who fought first with Sextus Pompey and Mark Antony before defecting to Octavian. Octavian then appointed him as his colleague as consul for 30 BC, even though Crassus had not been praetor, the office that was traditionally a prerequisite for the consulship. Dispatched to Macedonia in 29 BC, he moved against the Bastarnae, a tribe of mixed ethnicity (Scythian, Dacian, and Germanic) who had crossed the Danube and threatened Roman allies in neighboring Thrace. He drove them back toward the Danube and finally defeated them in pitched battle, killing their King Deldo in single combat. By Roman tradition, he was thus entitled to the Spolia opima, but Octavian blocked the privilege, apparently wishing to downplay the successes of individual generals in favor of his own prestige. Crassus likewise did not receive the agnomen of Scythicus to commemorate his victory. However, Octavian eventually did grant him a triumph upon his return to Rome.
Scholarly opinion is divided as to whether Marcus or Publius was the elder, but with Roman naming conventions, the eldest son almost always carries on his father's name, including the praenomen, or first name, while younger sons are named for a grandfather or uncle. The achievements of Publius, named after his grandfather (consul in 97 BC) and uncle, eclipse those of his brother to such an extent that some have questioned the traditional birth order. Both Ronald Syme and Elizabeth Rawson, however, have argued vigorously for a family dynamic that casts Marcus as the older but Publius as the more talented younger brother.
Licinius I (Latin:Gaius Valerius Licinianus Licinius Augustus; c. 263–325) was a Roman emperor from 308 to 324. For most of his reign he was the colleague and rival of Constantine I, with whom he co-authored the Edict of Milan that granted official toleration to Christians in the Roman Empire. He was finally defeated at the Battle of Chrysopolis, before being executed on the orders of Constantine I.
Early reign
Born to a Dacian peasant family in Moesia Superior, Licinius accompanied his close childhood friend, the future emperor Galerius, on the Persian expedition in 298. He was trusted enough by Galerius that in 307 he was sent as an envoy to Maxentius in Italy to attempt to reach some agreement about the latter's illegitimate political position. Galerius then trusted the eastern provinces to Licinius when he went to deal with Maxentius personally after the death of Flavius Valerius Severus.
Upon his return to the east Galerius elevated Licinius to the rank of Augustus in the West on November 11, 308. He received as his immediate command the provinces of Illyricum, Thrace and Pannonia. In 310 he took command of the war against the Sarmatians, inflicting a severe defeat on them and emerging victorious. On the death of Galerius in May 311, Licinius entered into an agreement with Maximinus II (Daia) to share the eastern provinces between them. By this point, not only was Licinius the official Augustus of the west but he also possessed part of the eastern provinces as well, as the Hellespont and the Bosporus became the dividing line, with Licinius taking the European provinces and Maximinus taking the Asian.
The series features a sprawling ensemble cast of characters, many of whom are based on real figures from historical records, but the lead protagonists are ultimately two soldiers, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo, who find their lives intertwined with key historical events. Rome was a ratings success for HBO and the BBC. The series received much media attention from the start, and was honored with numerous awards and nominations in its two-series run. Co-creator Heller stated in December 2008 that a Rome movie was in development, but as of early 2015 no further production had been initiated. The series was filmed in various locations, but most notably in the Cinecittà studios in Italy.

The Bizarre Life Of The Man Who Killed Spartacus
Spartacus is a historical figure who is often celebrated as a symbol against oppression. He is a figure that is also popular in pop culture, and Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 movie about the rebellious gladiator has forever etched the phrase “I’m Spartacus” into the history of cinema. But what about the historical figure that killed Spartacus, Marcus Crassus? He is often depicted as the villain in stories about Spartacus. But what is the real truth about the richest man in Rome at the time and the man who crushed the rebellion led by Spartacus? How did he make his vast fortune and how did he rise to power in Rome? The details about Crassus's life are actually bordering on the bizarre and even comical.

Inside The Billionaire Lifestyle Of The Richest Man In Rome
Forget Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk; let’s go way back into history and introduce you to Marcus Licinius Crassus, the richest man in Rome in 60 B.C. Bet you didn’t know there were billionaires back then, as printing money wasn't even a thing and there was no Forbes estimating the ancient billionaires’ wealth.
But as Cersie Lannister once said in Game of Thrones, ‘Power is power.’ That’s what you only need to know about how Marcus became the wealthiest man in ancient Rome.
The Roman Empire was the most powerful economic force that has ever existed. Throughout the empire, there were regional markets, but the idea of marketing didn’t exist and there wasn’t an entrepreneurial environment. What did exist was a culture of greed — all about becoming wealthy — that continues till date, no offense to the current mega-billionaires.
Talking about Marcus, he was a 1st century B.C. Roman statesman and general. He conquered, stole and plundered his way to the top of the empire. He used to spend lavishly when he needed to buy himself into the political arena. He had already become wealthy through the slave trade and used his money to gain power amongst the ruling class. When Marcus Licinius Crassus was alive, you didn't have to be born rich - you could make yourself a lot richer by becoming politically powerful. And his life is proof.

As Caesar wages war in Gaul, and Pompey secures for himself another “Special Command,” Marcus Licinius Crassus re-examines his position within the First Triumvirate.
Today I wanted to take a closer look at the common narrative that Crassus was a bumbling idiot who caused the disaster of Carrhae. What was he thinking! Today we will attempt to reconstruct his chain of decisions to determine if they really were misguided.
As a reference for this rehabilitation of Crassus, I recommend the book "Defeat of Rome in the East: Crassus, the Parthians, and the Disastrous Battle of Carrhae, 53 BC" by Gareth C Sampson

Don't drag me down when you fall Don't you know it's a privilege You've got so much, got it all Still you're counting your riches And I could be ten years old With a hole in my belly No shoes on my soul Chorus: But I am here Take my car, take my girl I'm the richest man in the world Steal my gold, take my pearls I'm the richest man in the world All that I am, I lay down In a mess of confusion This simple song it's a simple sound But just gifts that I'm using And I could be ten years old With a hole in my belly No shoes on my soul Chorus And all you say don't mean a thing (could I give it all away) You'll show your colors when you bleed (could I give it all away) You say let it go but I don't know . . . Maybe . . . give it all away, give it all away Chorus And I gotta be free Don't wanna be chained to this But it's chained to me,
