Harold Martin "Kid" Gore (January 1, 1891 – June 4, 1969) was the head coach of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, football team from 1919 to 1927 (then the Massachusetts Agricultural College). He compiled a 33–32–5 overall record. Gore also served as head coach for the men's basketball team, and baseball team. Gore is the grandfather of Mark Oliver Everett, aka "E", of the independent rock band Eels.
"Manhattan Beach" is an Americanmarch by John Philip Sousa (1854–1932). It was written in 1893 to commemorate the Manhattan Beach Park resort. It follows a different march style: Intro(4 bars)--[:A(16):]--[:B(16):]--Trio [:C(16):]--[:D(16):]. In part D, the tune starts off quiet, grows louder, and fades away. The march is notable for lacking a "stinger," or tutti chord on beat two.
Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park is a 1.5-mile (2.4km) public beach and city park in Jacksonville, Florida. It is located at Mayport in the Jacksonville Beaches area. It consists of 447 acres (1.81km2) of mature coastalhammock, which is increasingly rare to find along Florida's heavily developed Atlantic coast.
History
Part of what is now Hanna Park was formerly Manhattan Beach, Florida's first beach community for African Americans during the period of segregation in the United States. Manhattan Beach was established around 1900 by blacks working on the Florida East Coast Railway. At its height the beach included amenities such as picnic pavilions, cottages, and an amusement park. It flourished until around 1940, when it was superseded as a day-trip destination by the larger American Beach in nearby Amelia Island.
In the 1940s, 5 acres (20,000m2) land for the park was donated by Winthrop Bancroft, who required that the land be named for Kathryn Abbey Hanna (November 8, 1895 – 1967, a Chicago-born educator and author who had settled in Florida and served on the board of Parks and Historical Places.
A large theater at the park was opened on June 27, 1891. It featured everything from light opera to vaudeville.
While Manhattan Beach was a popular destination, competition (from nearby Elitch Gardens and White City, the latter eventually becoming Lakeside Amusement Park) and mishaps marked its existence. Roger the Elephant was spooked by the sound of a hot-air balloon, bucked passengers and stepped on the head of a six-year-old boy; George W. Eaton (son of Pressley Jr. and Harriett Eaton, brother of Clayton Arnold "Jack" Eaton). Roger was subsequently put down and buried in a nearby swamp. In 1908, Manhattan Beach was destroyed by fire; later that year, it was rebuilt and reopened as Luna Park. It closed for the final time in 1914.
Manhattan is often said to be the economic and cultural center of the United States and hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and Manhattan is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many multinationalmedia conglomerates are based in the borough. Historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626, for the equivalent of US$1050, Manhattan real estate has since become among the most expensive in the world, with the value of Manhattan Island, including real estate, estimated to exceed US$3 trillion in 2013.
