Rupert DaviesFRSA (22 May 1916–22 November 1976) was a British actor best remembered for playing the title role in the BBC's 1960s television adaptation of Maigret, based on Georges Simenon's Maigret novels.
Life and career
Military service
Davies was born in Liverpool. After service in the British Merchant Navy he was a Sub-Lieutenant Observer with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War. In 1940, the Swordfish aircraft in which he was flying ditched in the sea off the Dutch coast, following which Davies was captured and interned in the Stalag Luft III prisoner of war camp. He made three attempts to escape, all of which failed. During his captivity he began to take part in theatre performances, entertaining his fellow prisoners.
Acting
On his release Davies resumed his career in acting almost immediately, starring in an ex-prisoner of war show, Back Home, which was hosted at the Stoll Theatre, London. He became a staple of British television, appearing in numerous plays and series, including Quatermass II, Ivanhoe, Emergency - Ward 10, Danger Man, The Champions, Doctor at Large (1971), Arthur of the Britons and War and Peace (1972). He also provided the voice of Professor Ian "Mac" McClaine in the Gerry Anderson series Joe 90. In 1964, having released a 45rpm single "Smoking My Pipe" late the previous year that capitalised on the iconic Maigret opening sequence, he became the first person to win the Pipe Smoker of the Year award.
In 1932, Davies renewed his connection with Montgomeryshire and purchased Fronfraith Hall, in Llandyssil. He continued to own Fronfraith until 1948, when he moved to Brooklands. In 1950 he moved from Brooklands to Leighton Hall, to the east of Welshpool, which he continued to own until his death in 1967. In 1951 he was appointed Sheriff of Montgomeryshire.
"Derailed" is the 16th episode from the dramedy series Ugly Betty, which aired on February 15, 2007. It was written by Cameron Litvack and directed by Jim Hayman.
Plot
As the day begins, Betty wakes up from a series of nightmares (involving Claire Meade, who sits next to her with a martini and tells her she will kill her, followed by Henry, who shows Betty his 'girlfriend' then tells her that Claire will kill her). At MODE, Daniel and Alexis arrive at work still on speaking terms, but Wilhelmina isn't happy about this union as she watches the Meades bond.
Daniel walks by and gives Betty two tickets to a party hosted by Stella McCartney. Betty tells him about Claire's confession of killing Fey Sommers. Daniel insists that Claire becomes a little deranged when she drinks a lot, but after Betty goes into the details about the murder, Daniel immediately takes this info to Bradford at prison. However Bradford tells Daniel that Claire is simply a confused drunk and instead wants his son to focus on other things. Bradford orders him to hire lawyer Grace Chin, a plain girl whom Daniel happened to stand up when they went to the university together (leaving her to spend the rest of her "date night" playing Wolfenstein 3D on the PC in her dorm). Ironically, Grace's college photo looks a lot like a certain personal assistant, who was not amused over his 'description' after he tells her about what Grace looked like.
This is a list of episodes for the British television drama series Primeval. It premiered on ITV on 10 February 2007 and ran for five series and 36 episodes in total. It was cancelled in June 2009 after the third series, with the network stating it was struggling to fund any more original programming. On 29 September 2009, the station announced it had formed a deal with the digital channels Watch, BBC America, and GermanbroadcasterPro7, to recommission the programme for the fourth and fifth series. Series 5 of six episodes began on 24 May 2011 on digital channel Watch and was repeated on ITV from 16 June 2012.
Series overview
The first series revolves around "the team" forming, following several creature attacks in the Forest of Dean, as well as Nick Cutter's search for Helen Cutter, his missing wife, who had suddenly reappeared after eight years. Throughout the series, Nick becomes romantically involved with James Lester's PA, Claudia Brown. In the first series' finale Cutter travels through a time anomaly, and upon his return he discovers that Claudia Brown no longer exists, and the timeline has changed. In Series 2, Cutter adjusts to the new timeline while hunting for a traitor in the group. It marks the last appearance of the character Stephen Hart, who dies at the end of the series. In the third series, Cutter is killed, while Jason Flemyng joins the cast as Police Officer Danny Quinn. Ben Mansfield also joins as Captain Becker, the team's armed support, replacing Stephen Hart. The climax has Connor, Abby and Quinn pursuing Helen through anomalies to prevent her exterminating the human ancestors. They succeed, Helen is killed, but they remain trapped in past eras.
