Minus the Bear is an American indie rock band from Seattle, Washington. Founded in 2001, the group features current and former members of Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving. Their sound has been described as "Pele-esque guitar-taps and electronics with sophisticated time signature composition."
History
Minus the Bear is an indie rock group which formed in Seattle, Washington, United States in 2001 and have released five albums and four EPs. The band consists of Jake Snider (vocals, guitar), Dave Knudson (guitar), Cory Murchy (bass), and Alex Rose (synths, vocals).
On January 2, 2006, Matt Bayles, keyboardist and producer for Minus the Bear, announced that he was leaving the band in order to focus all his time on his career as a producer. His last performance with the band was on January 28, 2006. Subsequently, he was replaced by Alex Rose, who previously worked as a sound engineer on the band's second full-length album, Menos el Oso.
Interpretaciones del Oso, an album of remixed songs from their second full-length album Menos el Oso, was released on February 20, 2007 through Suicide Squeeze Records.
CFBR-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting an active rock format at 100.3 on the FM dial in Edmonton, Alberta. The station uses the brand name 100.3 The Bear.
History
The station was launched in 1951 by Sunwapta Broadcasting as CFRN-FM, simulcasting the AM programming of CFRN. It launched separate programming in 1964, and adopted the callsignCKXM in 1979. The station was sold to CAP Communications in 1988, and adopted the callsign CJKE the following year.
The station was acquired by Standard Broadcasting in 1992, and adopted the current CFBR calls.
On September 28, 2007, the CRTC approved the sale of CFBR and all Standard Radio assets to Astral Media.
On June 27, 2013, the CRTC approved the sale of all but 10 Astral Media Radio Stations to BCE (Bell Media). The sale including CFBR.
In 2008, CFBR was rated as the third most listened-to station in the Edmonton market. But by the Fall 2011 book, it had dropped to #6.
The station's on-air line up includes The Paul Brown Show in the morning, featuring Paul Brown, Yukon Jack and Gillian Foote. Jessica Jackson hosts the mid-day show, The Funhouse with Scott McCord is the afternoon drive show, Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx, during weekday evenings, and Park Warden during the day on weekends.
WBYR was the former WERT-FM and WKSD in Van Wert, Ohio, owned by Ray Livesay. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, WERT-FM sinulcast its sister AM station. When the FCC gave the ultimatum for Class B FM stations to increase power to maximum levels or be downgraded, WERT-FM increased power to 50,000 watts and introduced a beautiful music format. Once the station was sold to Atlantic Resources, the call letters were changed to WKSD ("Kiss 99") with a satellite delivered adult contemporary format.
In January, 1989, comedy clips, construction sound effects and a vague but brief announcement was heard over and over again for about a week, "9890 songs in a row on Fort Wayne's new 98.9 FM". A classic hits format debuted shortly after. Meanwhile, the WKSD calls resurfaced at 99.7 FM licensed to Paulding, Ohio; WKSD 99.7 FM now features oldies and sports talk as a sister station to WERT/1220.
A bear is a type of mammal. It can also be a verb meaning to hold up, carry, or support; further, it can mean to give birth to, but in this sense occurs almost always in the passive form to be born.

Alternately, for the past six years, Seattle's Minus the Bear have orbited the music world like a distant meteor, fine-tuning their unique brand of indie rock and discovering how technology can help enhance the band's unique pop vision - all of which has culminated with their latest full-length Planet of Ice, an album showing the band not so much transforming their sound as transcending it 'with brilliant countermelodies and sublime textures' -- Alternative Press. Formed in Seattle, Washington in 2001, Minus the Bear was initially formed by guitarist David Knudson, bassist Cory Murchy, and drummer Erin Tate who eventually recruited keyboardist/sequencer, Matt Bayles and vocalist/guitarist Jake Snider. Once in the same room they realized they were on to something special - and the band quickly earned a rabid and rapidly growing fan base ranging from teenagers to middle-aged parents. "I know every band says they can't explain their music, but I really can't say that we sound like one specific thing," Murchy explains. "We don't follow a particular scene or genre and hopefully that shows."

I was first attracted by your scent Your heart must be a caramelized onion By the time I saw your flame it was all over for you and whashisname. I think it was Algonquin Park It was so cold and winter-dark A promised hibernation high took me across the great black plate of ice. Now I'm the Islander. I found a place to call my den and dreamt of the Ferry and the Enormous Man Huge as were his children following around after him I'm the Islander woke up in the furtive Spring more capable of anything I waited for more men to come hey docked their boats and cocked their guns The time for truth and reconciliation's gone But with my belly full I intended to get something done I'm the Islander woke up in the dead of spring more hungry than anything Islander
