Long Ago and Far Away is a TV series that aired on PBS Television from 1989 to 1993. It was created by WGBH, a public television broadcast service located in Boston, Massachusetts. WGBH is a member of PBS, which allowed for this TV series to be viewed on various other PBS stations.
Each episode began with host James Earl Jones sitting in a chair in a room with a table, lamp, and window. The walls were blue with white dots in order to make it appear as if the room was sitting out in space or the night sky.
James Earl Jones talks during the short opening section, then acts as narrator for the balance of an episode. This series, aimed at children aged six to nine years old, presents stories based on traditional fairy tales. A number of presentation methods were used to tell these stories, with stop motion animation, live-action or cel animation being used depending on the episode.
Long Ago and Far Away also featured a number of guest narrators including: Tammy Grimes (narrated "The Happy Circus"), Kim Loughran (narrated "Bill and Bunny"), David Suchet (narrated "The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship"), and Mia Farrow (narrated "Beauty and the Beast" and "Pegasus").

Charles Robert "Charlie" Watts (born 2 June 1941) is an English drummer, best known as a member of The Rolling Stones. Originally trained as a graphic artist, he started playing drums in London’s rhythm and blues clubs, where he met Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. In 1963, he joined their group, the Rolling Stones, as drummer, while doubling as designer of their record-sleeves and tour-stages. He has also toured with his own group, the Charlie Watts Quintet, and appeared at London’s prestigious jazz-club Ronnie Scott’s with the Charlie Watts Tentet.
In 2006, Watts was elected into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame; in the same year, Vanity Fair elected him into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. In the estimation of noted music critic Robert Christgau, Watts is "rock's greatest drummer."
After a number of local releases including their first demo tape Sweat A River, Live No Lies (1991) and two independent albums Listening Game (1992) and Quick (1994) they signed to Epic/Immortal Records and released their first major record, Tin Cans With Strings To You (1996). The band's manager Troy Davis considers Tin Cans With Strings to be the first-ever screamo album. Far's next release was an EP titled Soon (1997), which was quickly followed up by their fourth and most popular album, Water & Solutions (1998). This record attracted a strong cult following in the late 1990s, due mostly to the single "Mother Mary" and the band touring with longtime friends the Deftones, and Incubus. The more melodic sound showcased on this album is increasingly cited as an influence on present-day alternative rock bands by the rock press, i.e.: Thursday, Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World.

PBS Long Ago and Far Away - Svatohor (Program 26)
This is an episode of WGBH's "Long Ago and Far Away" recorded around 1990, including the intros (unfortunately, the outro, closing credits, and even the last few seconds of the film are missing from this one; sorry for that). Svatohor is a 1984 film of Czechoslovakian origin, directed by Ivan Renc, with an English dub voiced by Tammy Grimes.
I have no intention of monetizing this video, only to make it available for fear it otherwise would be lost to time. Ownership of this material is (I assume) retained by WGBH or Czechoslovak Television. Please support your local PBS station if you like this sort of thing. :)

PBS Long Ago and Far Away - The Talking Parcel (Program 27, Part 1 of 2)
This is an episode of WGBH's "Long Ago and Far Away" recorded around 1990, including the intros/outros (the tape was missing some parts of them on this episode, so I added some pieces from other episodes on either end). The Talking Parcel is a 1978 adaptation by Cosgrove Hall of a 1974 book by Gerald Durrell. A DVD was made of this at some point, with a rather poor remaster if the comments are to be believed, but it appears to be out of print. Long Ago and Far Away split this film into two 30-minute episodes.
I have no intention of monetizing this video, only to make it available for fear it otherwise would be lost to time. Ownership of this material is (I assume) retained by WGBH or ITV plc (which absorbed Cosgrove Hall in 2009). Please support your local PBS station if you like thi...
