Valotte is the debut pop studio album by singer-songwriterJulian Lennon. The album was produced by Phil Ramone and recorded at several studios from February to August 1984. It was released in October 1984 on Charisma and Atlantic. The album was first certified gold in the United States, in the new year, then shortly afterwards being certified platinum. From the album, four singles were released, each with a music video, charting at various positions on the singles charts in both the United Kingdom and US. "Too Late for Goodbyes", the second US single, and "Valotte", the first US single, were both US Billboard Top 10 hits, the former reaching number5 and the latter reaching number9. The album peaked at number17 and 20 in the US and UK, respectively. In early 1985, a few months after the release of the album, Lennon went on tour around the US, Australia, and Japan from March to June 1985.
"Lonely" is the second single by South Koreangirl group2NE1 from their 2011 extended play, 2NE1. Later that year, a Japanese version of the song was released and was included on their first Japanese EP Nolza. A short version of the music video was uploaded through 2NE1's official YouTube account.
Background
The song was written and produced by Teddy Park. According to the CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, "2NE1’s new song counter feeds the people with an analogue sound unlike the majority who used strong electronics and house music and maybe that is why Will I. Am have [sic] found it interesting". They also released teasers of "Lonely" starting with CL and Minzy on May 9, and Dara and Bom on May 10. The music video was released on May 11, 2011.
Chart performance
By the end of 2011, "Lonely" was downloaded 2,935,930 times, and reached the fourteenth position in the 2011 Gaon Year-End Chart, becoming the third-highest charting of 2NE1's 2011 singles.
Music video
The music video for "Lonely" was filmed April 27, 2011, directed by Han Samin, who directed the music video for Big Bang's fourth mini-special album's title song, "Love Song". The video was posted on their YouTube account on May 11, 2011.
Damnation (Ride the Madness) is the 1999 studio solo album of the American deathrock veteran musician Eva O, released on the German label Massacre Records. The album was announced as the first half of a two album set, but the sequel, to be titled Salvation (Are You Ready to Die?), was not released. Her 2005 album Damnation/Salvation includes rerecorded versions of songs from this album along with the Salvation (Are You Ready to Die?) songs.
Overview
The album deals with Eva's past in the occult world and spiritual struggles. "Damnation & Damnation II" begins with a sample depicting the four riders of the apocalypse approaching, creating an oppressive, hopeless atmosphere that characterizes the album. Common theme is Eva's struggle against hypocrisy and her existential journey between heaven and hell, a constant subject since her days as companion of now deceased Rozz Williams. The album's overall sound is dominated by her twisted vocals, harsh guitars, industrial beats, and apocalyptic folk guitar parts. Eva O criticizes Christian fundamentalists, stares into the eye of hell and preaches Crowleyan principles, all seeming as a kind of desperate mantra to exorcise her inner demons. The music is dramatic in the electro gothic tradition, laden with synthesizer strings and stately male backing vocals.
Damnation tells the story of Karrer (Miklós B. Székely), a depressed man in love with a married torch singer (Vali Kerekes) from a local bar, the Titanik. The singer broke off their affair, because she dreams of becoming famous. Karrer is offered smuggling work by Willarsky (Gyula Pauer), the bartender at the Titanik. Karrer offers the job to the singer's husband, Sebestyén (György Cserhalmi). This gets him out of the way, but things don't go as Karrer plans. Betrayals follow. Karrer despairs.
Reception
Damnation is generally acclaimed by film critics, and many rank it one of Tarr's finest works. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports a 92% approval rating based on 12 reviews. Michael Atkinson of Village Voice called the film "a serotonin-depleted ordeal, and yet seemingly a sketchbook of vibes and ideas to come, with some of the most magnificent black-and-white images shot anywhere in the world."Jonathan Rosenbaum wrote in the Chicago Reader, "The near miracle is that something so compulsively watchable can be made out of a setting and society that seem so depressive and petrified." Writing for Slant Magazine, Jeremiah Kipp argued, "In terms of creating a strong cinematic world, Tarr has few equals."
DamNation is a 2014 advocacy documentary film about the changing attitudes in the United States concerning the large system of dams in that country.
The film was released on March 10, 2014. Blu-ray and DVD versions were also released in 2014.
Using "Slash and Burn" politics, The film takes an explicit point of view in support of the emerging environmental strategy of dam removal as a way to restore river ecosystems.
